Spotify Premium 12 Months for The Price of 10 ₱1,290 (~A $34) [VPN Required]

1260

Further to this deal on new Spotify Premium accounts in the Philippines, they now offer 12 months for the price of 10.

Unlimited music, overseas roaming, offline listening, and no ads - only ~A$34 per year.

Looks like this offer applies in many countries, but this one's by far the cheapest.

EDIT: FYI, I've been using Spotify PH for a few months as a result of an earlier post on Ozb. It was pretty easy to set up and I did not need a VPN. I just googled for a free Filipino proxy, changed my settings and checked that my IP address was correct, then set up a new Paypal account in PH and used it to sign up for a new Spotify PH account. The whole process took about 10 minutes and cost nothing.

To set up Paypal in PH I did have to add an unused credit card, but I haven't used it as I've been topping up my Paypal PH account from my AU account (it's even cheaper to do this if you sell something on eBay) and am now on the 12 month plan. At the end of the 12 month plan it reverts to the normal monthly price. The next debit date now shows 12/4/18 (That's 4th Dec to you and me).

Remove the credit card from your Paypal account to prevent automatic debiting, and remember you cannot use that card again with your local Paypal account. (Tip: American Express cards are best for this because they will usually send you a replacement card for free!)

Spotify PH is exactly the same as the local version, except that the home page gives you Pinoy charts.

Why all the downvotes? Must relate back to the ozbargain full of idiots comment.

      • +2

This was exactly the reason I made that comment.

  • +5

Here is an older Ozbargain page where people were discussing how they got around the geo paywall.

Note on the last page of comments it seems that Spotify have started to implement/enforce a 14 day abroad policy or at least a few people got caught out in an audit last month.

I tried the PH PayPal transfer method but it required me to pay with a credit card and wouldn't use the balance. I also tried adding my CommBank card but it said I needed to add a different card (most likely another Geo block).

Finally, I tried an old Aus Post Load and Go card through the PH PayPal and it seemed to work but was declined as I had no funds on it. Potentially it never got to the Geoblock check so this may be false hope.

Maybe someone has a work around but I am struck out.

Edit: All of this was done using ExpressVPN

When setting up the PH PayPal you need a Crdit Card that has never been used for a PayPal account before.

      • That could be it, either way I will probably stick with Spotify Dogfood.

In reference to the cards I managed to get both of them to add themselves to the PH PayPal account but the PayPal transaction would error out with the CommBank one.

Last time I did this I found that there were some (dance/indie music non major labels) artists that I listened to that didn't appear on the Philippine Spotify.

  • When I listen to music do I still need to use the Philippines vpn or just to sign up?

    • +2

      just sign up

When I signed up a few months ago, as suggested by someone in a previous post, I used https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/geoproxy/pooljnboi…
    Switch to Philippines.
Created a Philippine spotify account, created a Philippine Paypal. I used my Coles Reloadable Mastercard in PayPal. Other people transferred from their Australian PayPal because their credit/debit cards didn't work.
    Set up premium in Spotify.
    Deleted GeoProxy
Everything else has been done without a proxy.
When I got an email about this deal I just went onto spotify, it knew I was in Australia, but because it was set up "in the Philippines" it worked without issue and charged the Philippines amount.

    • Followed this instruction and managed to sign up. Thank you!

      • I was not able to sign up for paypal because it asks for a national ID or passport ID or driver license?

        • Be creative…I can assure you all the people that have the deal don't have either of those. Pretty sure they aren't going to look up either.

        • +1

I put 1234567890, entered address and phone of some random company in Manila.

        • @Shika: I used the details of a hotel.

        • @ilikeit: ok I thought PayPal would be cross checking that so I did not even try :)

        • @Era: It's all automated. Probably just for data collection.

    • Thanks - followed the same procedure and got it.
Note that you will need a credit/debit card linked to the account, otherwise Paypal won't allow you to set-up the recurring payment.
I used my debit card as I haven't linked that one to my AU Paypal account.

    • Thanks for your guide! I did this, except the proxy's were getting shitcanned by Paypal. I used VPN Gate (it's free) which worked fine

  • Has anyone managed to sign up? Tunnel bear is free but the closest location is Singapore.
Any free way to bypass the geo blocking found yet?

  • Can you do a yearly Family pass? And then split between friends? Or is the family offer monthly only?

  • +3

Lol, so this is getting a huge amount of votes despite the fact that hardly anyone is able to take advantage of the offer. I'll stick to my 3 months for the price of 1 offers that I rotate between Spotify, Tidal and Google Music. That seems much easier and almost as cheap.

    • Maybe I'm missing something. Wheres the complication here? Isn't this the process?

      1. Buy a prepaid credit card from supermarket
      2. Open a new PayPal account (address in Phillipines)
      3. Sign up for Spotify using VPN

How is this deal being upvoted if it’s such a pain in the arse to try and get? From what I see in the comments above it either doesn’t work or you’re playing roulette in an audit by Spotify

    • No pain.. No gain
It's cheap & it is ozbargain way.

  • Can’t you just sign up to Spotify in the Phillipines and then transfer your account to an Australian one using this process: https://support.spotify.com/uk/article/how-can-i-change-my-c…

That way you get the cheap price and then the full Australian catalogue?

    • You'd have to cancel the PH one, then resub as AU according to that page.

      • No, you just need to update the payment method to an Australian credit card and then it would allow you to change the country to AU. But I assume it wouldn’t charge you until your 12 months was over.

Tbh this deal only good for people with a limited data plan. If you have more than 8gb or so per month. The modded Spotify apk will service your needs just fine. I won't link the page, but if you search for 'Spotify dogfood xda' you will see the benefits and also the app is free to download.

    • Hey removing ads is good but would this also mean you have to play songs in random order like on the free mobile plan?

      • No ads, play in any order, Chromecast works, no download, not HQ music.

    • So no problem if you have unlimited data, and only use Xiaomi Pistons to listen.

    • Modified app is not high quality.

  • Lot of work but yeah I managed to get it. $34/year is a steal. Thanks op.

  • I received this as an email offer yesterday. I was wondering if it was a scam. Ahhh wait a minute… not for $34

  • VPN required just to pay or VPN required to use it for the whole year?

Can you pay using VPN and your current username etc and after that you have the subscription for a year?

  • can someone help me?
I created a ph paypal and transferred 1290 php to it from my au paypal but when I try to pay it makes me add card details if i add an Australian card it doesn't work, Anyone have this problem?

    • As long as your card wasn’t registered with PayPal then it should work.

      • Tried with my card and it said you’ll need another carb for this payment but it will be linked to your wallet

        • Yeah do that otherwise it won't let you proceed.

    • As mentioned, you need a card not already linked to Spotify. Elect to pay via Paypal, but you still need to give CC details. Then nominat Paypal as your preferred payment.

  • Which is harder? This or using/creating multiple email or FB accounts to sign up for the one to three month trials that seem to be on the go for around a dollar most of the time (touch wood)?

    • This is less work over time, it's setup once and forget. So it depends on:
      1. If you prefer more work up-front, or more work in total over time.
      2. How much you value your time. The free trials are free after all.

      • Well, it's 99 cents. Close to free. If you can split this deal it gets more and more worth it.

        • Right. So do the work up-front setting up this service via the VPN, and then you can forget about it.

    • Be creative…

  • Can you do this with existing PH accounts setup where you pay monthly? Or do you have to setup a new account?

    • Existing PH one is fine.

  • By setting up ph paypal and credit card, does it set up a recurring annual payment so you get the same price every year?

    • Mine shows as monthly for recurring payments still after doing this.

  • I have tried this with ipvanish but it still gives me Australian pricing. Anyone know if it still works?

  • If anyone needs another user to fill a family subscription, feel free to send me an IM.

  • You guys need to read comments earlier on.

    Refer to Miss B's post.

    • I tried but geoproxy hardly ever connects. Did it work for you?

      • It works. Just have to try different ip at a time until it eventually loads up both Paypal and Spotify Philippine.

  • +1

Bonus special. Instead of signing up for the yearly deal I went with the PH family subscription. 194 pesos /mth = about $5 …. not bad.

  • I've tried a few different ways and still cant get it to work.

I now have PH spotify, PH PayPal BUT when I try to add a credit card it recognises that it's Australian and says I cannot use it at this price.

Anyone have a clear work around?

    • You cannot use a CC already linked to a Spotify account. I used my AU CC.

  • Wait- do I have to use a VPN to listen?

    • No, just for setup the first time.

  • I managed to use a VPN to sign up to a Philippines Spotify account and create a new Paypal account with Philippines details also using VPN. I added my woolworths credit card to the paypal account never been used before and validated it by inputing the code on the small charge they make. I also transferred paypal balance enough to cover the subscription to the new account.

I was all set or so i thought but when i went to pay via payal i got the error "we cannot setup pre-approved payments please try again later". I tried about 100 times but wouldnt work no matter what.

How did anyone get around that pre-approved payment issue? Is there a wait time before they'll allow it?

  • Sorry if this has (it probably has) already been covered, but…
    • Can you use this with existing Australian-based accounts somehow?
    • Are there any other differences when using it in Australia to how an Australian account would be?
    Thanks

    • No, new account. Same.

  • +1

This doesn't seem to be a limited time offer, so I suggest that others do what I did and sign up for the 3 months for 9 pesos first, and then sign up for the yearly deal after. And if you get hit by an "audit" in the 3 months you'll only be out of pocket 25 cents.

But I have a feeling that the people with cancelled accounts and talking about the 14 day policy just have expired credit cards or insufficient paypal balances because the 14 day abroad policy should only apply to free accounts.

    • Good idea dusk, I will try this way, thanks!
Did you set up a Philippines Spotify and also a Ph PayPal? I have set up both but cannot get to the next stage of it allowing one of my Australian Credit Cards.

Can you let me know how you did this stage?

      Thanks

      • I added my CBA debit card and it worked just fine. You have to make sure the card isn't linked to any other PayPal accounts, but if that doesn't work then I've seen some others mention transferring money to their PH PayPal balances.

        • +1

I added my CBA debit card but then when I choose payment method Paypal and go to pay, the next page says "We’re sorry. We weren’t able to complete your payment or set up pre-approved payments. Please try again later."

        • Hmm that's weird. The only thing I can think of is the proxy/VPN, so maybe try a different one. In my case I just used geoproxy to setup a very basic PH proxy and that went through fine.

        • @duskx:

I tried everything, different CC's, different servers on the GeoBlock. Now I get this, "It looks like your card is from a non-Spotify country.
Spotify isn't available in your country yet. Change your location or choose a different payment method."

Oh well, I'll try the 99c australian deal and see what comes up in the future.

          Thanks

        • @Alex10: getting the same error even when using a vpn

        • @Alex10: Same error. Did you find a work around?

  • I signed up with last years promo of P194/month.. Should I assume if I sign up with this, it changes my plan and payments from monthly to annual (annual being cheaper?)

Also, is Php 1,290 their regular annual price? Or this a one-off?

  • Just as an FYI to everybody who has newly set this up. My understanding is you have to keep the balance at or above the automatic direct debit in your PH PayPal account so it doesn't ever access the Australian Credit card linked to the PH PayPal account.

I used to Transfer over about ₱151.00 each month to cover the ₱129 monthly fee + PayPal fees. For the 12 Months, I sent over enough to cover the ₱1,290 + PayPal fees before moving to the 12 month deal.

Also as an FYI: Your spotify account will revert back to the ₱129 a month after this 12 months you've just paid for runs out. Again, ensure you have atleast ₱129 in your PayPal account to pay for the monthly reoccurring subscription in 12 months time.

  • "We've added this card to your account, but you’ll need to use a different one to complete your payment." well, tried all of my card, no luck….
Anyone with PayPal PH can help me pay this? i'll send the fund to your account though…

  • Is it still working for you guys?

  • Looks like a family account is possible too- only $5 (194 Phillipino Pesos). Is that right!? Who wants to split?

  • Tried a prepaid CC from Coles - went through PayPal action and Spotify requires a valid CC or debit card

    • Not sure if I'm doing it correctly, but I can't seem to find Philippine servers on PIA.

  • Struggling with the payment part. Paypal doesn't accept my debit card :(

  • I'm also getting this issue- "we cannot setup pre-approved payments please try again later". I setup a PayPal account with a PH address, and a credit card not used elsewhere on paypal.

    Any ideas?

  • Anyone selling a family spot?

  • Ok so what CC's do work? Have tried visa giftcards and that didn't work-even though I transferred the correct amount already in the paypal account. Do Auspost Load and Go's work? Heard some people had problems with them too….
