What kind of stuff/content do you normally find on Usenet?

    • +12

      Linux distros.

    • +3

Anything people upload on the internet. Like torrent content, but over SSL and no peer to peer stuff.

TV shows, movies, software, home movies, etc.

someone neg-ed your helpful comment =(. Have an upvote

        • They must not like home movies :)

          @neil aus:

You were probably negged because you broke the first rule of Usenet.

          (I didn't neg you).

        • @b2dz: So he did, indeed.

Wouldn't 100 Mbit be perfect for "Aussie high speed internet"?

      Ha ha, good one.

A touch of sarcasm from the OP I'd say. Go NBN!

Do not vote for this (profanity).

  • Xs news responds to DMCA takedowns right?

    • +2

      They all do.
You can install plugins or similar to news readers to pull stuff down before they're DMCA'd. As well, some indexers scramble names so content remains available longer.

      • Well i know Dutch providers are a little slower… i'm looking for a secondary provider atm.. pretty happy with thundernews for $6 bucks a month unlimited speed / quota.

      • Yeah, most content is random names, need to use an indexer to find what to download.

Sonarr and Radarr is good for tv shows and movies.

  • So its not 50% off month to month (permanently) right ? according to fine print on coupon and site?

    • Sounds like it's for the length of term, the 1 year sub will be 50% of for 1 year, then revert to normal pricing a month to month basis

    • +1

Yep, looks that way. Discount is only for the period you're signing up - 1 month/6 month/12month whatever and then it's back to whatever their current price is. I don't like that. My deal for instance from newsdemon is still valid and that was a number of years ago.

    • Just for the term of the deal, yes. They have discounts from time to time. Also a free month trial to give it a go.

  • How do you know what is the most popular Usenet? Obviously each provider may have different content and number of users?

    • +1

Only one usenet. Providers like XSNews here just provide an access point by which they charge you. You then use indexing sites to see what's there or search.

  • What indexing sites are people using these days? I use nzbgeek but recently their content has dropped dramatically

    • rip Usenet-crawler.com :(

    • There are a few here, I used nzbgeek too. https://greycoder.com/best-usenet-indexes/

    • I really like dognzb for their clean layout. generally, the animals are good to collect; nzbcat, dognzb, also nzbgeek (not technically an animal but some would say that's up for debate)

      • DrunkenSlug.

  • Does anyone have an invite to nzbgeek or similar?
