670

Just saw this on Facebook. I will go there and get some myself

Straight from the top end. These rough and tumble guys have no interest in appearances. Their skin is scratched and scuffed from the tree they grew in. but you can bet they are super sweet on the inside. Best eaten in the sun!

Prefer to pay more for Kensington Prides.

    • Why?

      • Yeah what's the difference? I haven't had a stringy mango in many years.

Kensington tastes better. Taste more like mangoes in south east asia
          (Personal opinion)

        • @Blugok: That's also my opinion.

Just prefer the fuller, richer taste of the KPs. I typically buy Honey Gold's at the end of the season when KPs aren't readily available.

      • I think coles selling KP mango for 80cents each last time. Very good taste!

        • +2

The ones I got for 80c tasted like crap.

        • @Scab: Bad Luck! Mine are big and sweet :P

  • Pride.

      Gay?

  • Just paid $5 for 3 mangoes at Coles 🙁

I got them, they were Calypso.

      Worst mangoes ever, no flavour.

      • I may like them then, I don't like full on Mango flavour, too strong.
In the end it will prob be my wife that eats them anyway.

        • -1

Mine had no flavour at all.

      • Calypsos are my personal favourite gone through a tray a week for the past two weeks.

      • Calypso are preferred by supermarkets as they have a much longer shelf and storage life. Supermarkets are trying their best for consumers to adapt to its taste.

        • Supermarkets are trying their best for consumers to adapt to its taste.

What does that even mean, they're selling bland tasting crap?

      • When buying mangoes you should smell them. They should smell sweet.

        No smell = No buy

Go get a box of mangoes for $10.00 from the mango man on the side of the road, there are heaps of them around this time of year!

  • I just called their Edgecliff store. Says he can give me a tray for $20

Just came from Broadway, with the intent to look.

There were a lot of trays there. Pretty bad visually and undersized, with 1 semi good one in each tray at first glance.

Then a lady came along with the intent to swap them around. She lifted a tray and the tray below that had several good mangoes, she decieded to use that as a base and picked it up, below that was similar tray. She was satisfied and moved on.

I grabbed that lower tray and below that was a tray with mostly good mangos, at home now, out of 11 there are two average bad mangoes the rest are good with half of them with no blemish, nothing.

I'm guessing the mango trays at the top all look bad, because they put the less riped and worse ones on top for some reason… also some others are also probably swaping out any decent ones

  • how many in a tray?

    • 9 on the picture & 11 on above comment. So I guess 9-11 depend on tray

I haven't been able to go to the store yet

    • heh 9 if they re all big like those in the picture.

These are imperfect trays, they shove what they can in to it.

Also just had one the good looking one was, more tangy than sweet, still good for a dollar

  • These mangos are huge and these trays are cheap also tasty, instant buy.

    Honey gold are medium-large

    • To describe a mango you need "golden Apricot skin" and "Yellowy / Orange flesh" sounds a bit weird…. if you are going to buy an Orange, you might get "Mango flesh" ?

  • They're only NSW, right?

    • +1

      Only NSW

I prefer R2's and am eating one every day for breakfast. Wouldn't want to pay per kilo their usually over a kilo each… lucky I live on a mango farm.

    • +1

got mine at $2 a kilo, cant complaint the taste and it's SIZE…..

  • Has anyone tried Aldi's current offer? 4 mangoes 4 dollars

    • +2

Had a look at them this morning but did not buy. They were very small and did not look too good. Not worth the price. Will try to get to a Harris Farm tomorrow. Love honey golds and at $10 a tray that is a great buy.

    • Those taste close to Thai green mango, best for salad.

  • +1

Yeah I got the Aldi 4 for $4.. very small! fairly tasty. Just not used to them being so tiny…
