Optus 12 Months Contract, $30/17GB Per Month Via Optus Chat

1370

Hi guys, not sure if this qualifies as a deal, I only got it via chat with an Optus customer rep. Mod please move to forum if inappropriate.

My existing plan expired so I was hoping to get this deal as a "loyalty bonus" to an existing customer, $30/15Gb. But the kind Optus guy twisted my arm and offered 17Gb instead:

The $40 sim only plan with 15 GB data for $30 is a new service deal.
You need to sign up for that on a new number or a porting number. If you sign up for this new number deal now, I will give you the plan for $30 with 17 GB data as an offer for you.

I didn't want to be rude, so I accepted. They have to send me a new SIM, so not sure if I can port my existing number to that plan, but will try. Let me know if anyone else tried and got this.

Update After reading all the comments below checked with Optus to clarify the deal:
- it is a new plan, I cannot keep my old number - sadly
- after receiving and activating the new sim i can cancel the old one, so no charge for two plans as long as they are not both active same time;
Update #2 and final Finally got my new SIM delivered. Knowing it's going to be a new number decided to chat Optus anyway about keeping my old number. Got bounced to about 3 different departments and reps, told to call via phone customer service dept. Another 2 reps talking to directly. The last one said it is to much trouble to transfer my number to a new SIM, easier to port the new plan to my old SIM. Got that done in about 15 min.
Conclusion and why bother: this deal is not for the faint hearted. You also have to keep cool talking to reps, bitching doesn't help :) Why I wanted to stay with Optus so bad? Because when it works it flies! I am getting speed of 83 Mbps down, 30 up, wouldn't dream of that speed on my Telstra ADSL.

Just signed my wife up for this. Chatted with an agent and asked what was on offer for a new port in and was offered $30 with 17GB per month straight away. No haggling required. Confirmed $30 a month in chat, so will see how it goes when I get my first bill.

  • signed up too on live chat, 17GB and got an email confirming 25% off and 2Gb extra on the plan
    now waiting for SIM

does anyone know how long SIM delivery takes to metro melbourne ?
Kogan free sim expires on 4/12 - so this better come on Monday

Last day for this offer then ?

    • Hmmm…funny. I just signed up for 17GB for $40 - 25% discount (Asked for the 2GB extra and the Optus rep accepted straight away), got the e-mail but doesn't mention anything about the discount or the extra 2GB.

Fortunately I saved the transcript…looks like I'll need it.

      • Well, went to the live chat again and the rep said it's all there (discount and extra data) but it's "normally" not included in the confirmation e-mail according to him.

So, should be all good I guess.

    • Metro areas next business day if ordered before midday, 2 days if ordered after midday. Did you get yours yet?

      • was delivered and left on the porch on 1st, but never to be found !
had to go to Optus store to get a new sim

  • same here at 11pm one hour before offer expired, via live chat got 17gb.

    that was after second chat.
the first one was stupid and told me to bring another number to the same plan (so 2x plans) then i will get 20gb instead.
but for 1 number, just 15gb

i just hope there are no cheaper plans turns up in the near future.
will be sad if in 10 months time everyone here signed up to $25 for 20GB data from telstra for example

try different rep. i got someone named 'Noel S" he is good.
previously a girl named Grace. a dud.

      • Thanks, I'll try again
EDIT: Did you have to try persuade them or simply ask for it?

        • just said you are porting in as new customer, friends recommend optus, and they got 2gb bonus on this $30 plan (after discount)

        • @dragonindespair: after 6 rejections, I decided to just call in and spoke to someone whose work wasn't outsourced. Got it done in 10 minutes tops. Too easy.

    • You can still get 15gb for $40 a month.

      • no. thats against ozb policy, pay more than others :D
its like what, 33% more? not good

  • Just tried to get this offer via chat. Rep said offer is not available anymore.

    • try another rep, I got mine today lol

  • Ok so I got my sim this afternoon,it has been activated before arrived. Wtf!
And when I logged in to Optus my account I only see 15gb not 17gb as promised.

Really, kind of regret joining Optus.

    • Yeah, I am still fighting them for it 2 months later.

      • if you dont see that extra 2gb on 2nd bill then better got to TIO straight away. where is OP and who get 17gb from 1st day?

Managed to still get the deal for 30/months even though expired for a week now, gotta give it to Jason S the sales rep, most of the sales rep doesn't really care though….

  • Can you port your number in, or not?

    • Check the quote I posted from my Optus rep.

      • hi OP cant send you msg so i ask here: did you get 17GB from the day 1? 2 people here including me told the 2gb bonus only applies from 2nd cycle/bill.

        • Hi, yes I have it listed when I login to my dashboard. But that may not be a typical case, because I got the plan transferred to my existing number. So I still have my old number and the new plan. Pls check my update #2.

    • you have to port in this is for new customer

  • yes, i got 25% discount and 2GB bonus data too, from online chat.

    • dont feel happy yet you dont know whats coming in the next 2 weeks of your life. endless frustrations

  • This is now available again officially on their website, offer valid till 3/1/2018

    • Only 15GB though

  • finally - fed up with their outsourced team, endless chat, phone call.
    terminated and move to kogan.
