Optus Student Offer: 100GB Plan for $39

Optus is currently offering a 100GB plan for $39 as part of a student deal but anyone can access the deal. Here’s how it works:

Key Details:
  • Eligibility:

    • While marketed as a student offer, you don’t actually need to be a student to sign up.
    • The website only checks that you provide an email address with a .edu.au domain.

  • How to Sign Up:

    • Use a random student email address (e.g., [email protected]) to activate the offer.
    • The student email is only required to activate the offer and is not part of the application form for the plan.
    • Once activated, you can register your account with your personal email address without any issues.

  • No Ongoing Verification:

    • There’s no further verification or checks after the initial sign-up, so you can continue using the plan with your personal email.

  • Personally, Now that Vodafone has doubled its coverage by Network Sharing with Optus. Id go with Voda without needing any student anything
    Vodafone $39 100GB Deal

the network coverage is still shit compared to telstra

    • +6

Voda using the Optus network is only applicable on regional locations.

      • Correct. Not sure why you got downvoted.

why are there no low data plans for cheap anymore :( I'm happy to pay $10 for just 5gb of data!

    • +1

Well there are, they just are with the MVNOs and might need 6-12 months payment upfront

    • Been rocking Telstra, Boost and Voda 12 months prepain on repeat

    • There are some between $10 and $12 but you need to port out every 3/6 months to a different provider. Or you can buy one of those 12 months SIM

    • Same goes for 25m NBN plans. Single person household only need 25m down…had to switch to SIM deals but they have limited data (100Gb if lucky)

  • how can i obtain a random student email address (e.g., [email protected]) to activate the offer?

    Thanks

    • It doesn't need to be a real email you can even use that one and it will work

  • That's how I ended up with a new Medicare number

    • Well think of it like redoing your life again, get a new medicare number and be a student.

  • 59 retail for a student!? Nice deal for the first year though. Wished they a have a 50gb option.

After the floptus data leak, no thanks.

Can’t believe you got downvoted for this. Shows how much the muppets on OzBargain care about privacy.

      • +3

Heh. Even you got downvoted. You’re 100% though. My data got made available to the world and slurped up and I’m not trusting Optus for a looong time. I don’t care how cheap they are.

Do you all remember how stoopid the “hack” was on Optus’ part? That public accessible non secure API that allowed anyone to see customers private details? Why trust them now?

        • +1

          OzBargain moto "don't care, got a deal"…

          • @EitherWayUp: True. I will keep repeating it, maybe someone will listen, some time…

Go for felix. Unlimited data. Single. Living by himeself. Use it as home internet as well by hotspot. Using over 600-700gb/month. Never had an issue. 20$/m for first 3 month then 40$. 20mbps enough to stream in 4k.

    • How do you connect console/tv/computer/Chromecast to a Sim?

      • Get a gl iNet router (I'm using a marble currently), and when you arrive home, turn on your hotspot. The router will then connect to your hotspot and share the connection to all wired and wifi devices on your network. I'm using an ancient $20/month Optus plan with unlimited 1.5Mbps data which is fine for browsing and 720p streaming, or I pre download what I want to watch at higher res sometimes. Using hundreds of gig a month.

I also have a launtel HFC NBN connection that you pay per day. I keep it paused (no charge) and just turn it on when I need to download large files, or WFH.

        • Doesn't that burn out your battery

      • Hotspot. Have spare phone. I charge once day and it go all day or if am not using that phone when am home, i just put it on charge.

    • DAYUM, now that is a good hack!
      Instead of $225 over 3 months, you're paying $40?
      That's MASSIVE!

I'm with amaysim, $30 pm, I get int' calls too, but never use it. But for $12 pm, for 3 months, that's good!

Who do they piggy back off?

100Gb for $20 with Circles, same network but no 5g
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/842092#:~:text=Sign%20up%2…
    deal not expired, still works

  • Can this be obtained for existing customer ? I am on $59 plan, can i get the discount using the steps above ?

  • Amaysim's UNLIMITED 120GB is better value for $50 ($24 for the first month).
PLUS, you get Unlimited International calls to 42 countries. They piggyback off Floptus.
