  • Tempted - are there import duties and stuff? I'm still running on an Acer business lappy from 08 XD T9300 hd2600 going strong tho haha

    • Pretty sure the duties etc only applies on $1000+

  • Warranty valid in Australia?

    • +1

      Brief answer: no.

Acer US has International Traveller's Warranty, which you'll need to be a US resident and provide them a US address (and possibly other info) for Acer AU to service the computer.

Just got one of these. Can't believe the price when you consider how many deals we've had over the months with 1050tis and they've all been ~$1100

Does this have the dual path cooling or just 1 path for cpu and gpx?

    • +1

Looks like it has dual-fan cooling from the specs

      • +2

Actually, just re-read what you said, and looks like it has two paths for cooling.
However, the heat from the cpu crosses over the gpu before getting cooled, so not the best thermal design for extended gaming.

Here's a good review that shows the laptop's thermal design (from 2:36 onwards): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDapV6EE2_w

  • How does this compare to this deal?

I just bought this yesterday.. I basically paid ~$400 extra for the 1060 over the 1050ti?

Should I get this and return the dell? Cheers

    • Different brands, but is definitely not worth the extra $400 for the 1060.

    • +1

The 1060 is considerably faster. It's not a slight bump in power. It's about 40-50% higher frame rates that you're going to get from the dell.

If fps are important to you and you're a gamer, I would keep the Dell. Especially if you got the IPS screen on yours, which I think you would have.

This acer is no slouch and will play a lot of games, but in a year or 18 months is going to start to struggle with newer releases and high settings.

      • +1

Also the Dell has a better cooling system. Which is pretty important for gaming.

Well that was short lived. Seems the price has gone back up $65 to it's usual price
