    Great post OP.. Thank you..

After all the shopping spree..My wallet/bank account is having a BLACK OUT or else would have been a good BLACK FRIDAY :P

  • Very nice!

I've been looking at this Onkyo for $646.20 shipped ( with the 10%) from Selby…
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Onkyo-TX-NR575E-7-2-Channel-Netw…
Anyone have this receiver and can comment?

    Need to do some reading…

    • Onkyo have had terribly reliability the least ~6 years. Pioneer is essentially rebadged Onkyo now. Stick with Denon, Yamaha or Marantz (if you can afford it).

    • I'd be interested to know your final thoughts and the outcome of your reading @rattle

I like the fact that the Onkyo has the ability to power two extra speakers in another room (e.g. outside).
Onkyo also has: 3 Digital Audio Inputs (2 Optical and 1 Coaxial)

But comparing specs and capabilities of these devices seems to need a PhD and a lot of spare time :-)

  • +1

Very tempting. Does anyone know if the Chromecast builtin is audio only or can it do video as well?

    • +1

      From Pioneer's product page:

Features Chromecast built-in, so you can use your mobile device to stream your favorite music, radio, or podcasts to your speaker. You can control the audio from anywhere in the house using Chromecast-enabled apps running on your personal device - Android phone, iPhone, iPad, and tablet, Mac and Chromebook and Windows laptop. Discover Chromecast-enabled apps at g.co/cast/audioapps. The Chromecast built-in logo is a trademark of Google Inc.

So appears to be audio only.

  • I don't know much about these but can someone confirm if it can do 5.1 (until we need higher)?

    • +1

yes. Any AV receiver will have options for the number of speakers to use: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, …

(And yes, the .1 or .2 subwoofers are also optional addition to any number of speakers)

  • Is there any limitation in resolution, video quality, etc when putting this between sources like Xbox One, Playstation, computers and an UHD TV?

    • No although obviously PC will have to use HDMI rather than DisplayPort.

    With comment:

    Much better out there.
Only 7 speaker terminals, would have to choose better zone 2 and Atmos speakers.
The good amps have 9 terminals

Does the 7 exclude the +2 in 7.2?

    • Specs seem to suggest only 5 speakers out. Does this mean ATMOS+2 must be built into two of the speakers?
Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm new to this technology.

  • -1

Outdated tech - no 4k support (at least those specs don't mention it??)

    • +2

Specs seem to suggest it does:
      Ultra HD Pass-through with HDCP 2.2 (4K/60p/4:4:4/24-bit, 4K/24p/4:4:4/36-bit, 4K/60p/4:2:0/36-bit)
Ultra HD Upscaling (1080p to 4K)

      Unless I misunderstand?

      • +2

I swear I searched the entire page for 4k and it didn't show up. Ignore me, struggling on a Friday!

  • Damn doesn't post to WA:

Excludes: Perth Metro, WA Regional, WA Remote

  • This receiver is good for general purpose and a small room. Possibly 3 x 4m ~ 12 - 15mSQ
Please don't expect this unit to provide heaps of power with lower sensitivity rating speakers in a large room.
I have the earlier VSX922K and although it is a great unit, it is gutless IMO…. it does the job.
    Cheers

  • Does this have Dolby Pro Logic II ? I can't see it anywhere.
