  • Nice, just grabbed one. Handy for controlling music/tv when I'm in the kitchen arms deep in food prep

  • just got one. thanks.

I don't really get the appeal to these…..I must be missing something.

    • Me either.

"OK, google. what's the temperature". That's all I know

    • no you're not

    • I have one of these, and it's hard to explain why I enjoy it so much without physically getting people to try them out. I like playing music around the apartment and being able to say "Ok Google" to start playing music is much more convenient than going over to my speaker, turning it on, and always worrying about whether the speaker is charged. Plus, I'd wager that the sound quality of the speaker is equal or better than comparable bluetooth speakers at the $120 price point.

Other practical things include asking Google for the weather, when Arsenal is playing next (RIP me), telling me when my girlfriend has left work so I can start cooking the rice, etc. Again, it's hard to explain the benefits of the Google Home without physically showing people its capabilities.

    • I got a mini for free with my phone. It's actually kinda handy, can ask a question whenever something comes to mind. Kids love it

That being said, don't see a need to upgrade to the big model

    • You need a few smart/iot devices in the house to take advantage of it. If you don't have any then it's useless. You could potentially ask to switch the lights, TV on. You can get it to unlock your front door, garage door, play music, call someone.

So to play a song in the olden days you had to find your phone, unlock it, start Spotify, search for song with really crappy keyboard, find song, click play, stuff around with Bluetooth. Then your phone flattens quickly and if you leave the room the music stops. Alternatively you can just say "ok google, play <insert band here> on the stereo". Done. Then you can tell it to pause, stop, skip songs etc. It's a first world problem but for some things it is heaps better.

    Thanks Op!

  • I had trouble paying for the goods and ebay chat support said this has run out of stock.

  • I can no longer add it to my cart!!!

  • Aussie plug?

  • I was told this will work with the Harmony remotes, but do you know which models / versions? I have the Harmony Hub that connects via wifi to the phone apps as well as to the Harmony Remotes (The Harmony Ultimate) etc. Can they work with this or does it have to be the latest model?

Looks like it's back in stock!

Anyone know of any cheapo google home mini's?

    • +2

Yeah, TBH I just want one to play with and I don't need the speakers - a cheap mini would make my day.

  • got one. thanks!

Got 2, xmas sorted for some people :D

  • If i have 2 separate living / tv rooms, would i need 2? I presume if i want it to hear me, i will have to be in the same room?

    • just yell louder…..

    • Microphone picks up at some pretty incredible distances but yeah, if you're gonna close doors, buy two.

Damn, I hesitated and missed out by that much

  • Thank you I got one some 2.5h ago. I will see if my mother in law likes it and give it to her :).

Wait for Amazon , god knows when though

  • bah was trying to figure out if i needed 1 or 2 and i missed out :(

  • Glad I got in on this one - thinking I should have grabbed 2 now

  • Got one, thanks!!

  • Thanks OP got one earlier today (-$119.20). I actually had to go to the couriers to pickup the one from Officeworks (-$138.70) which I returned (+$146) on the way. = -$111.90 which is impressive but OzBargainers will notice I didn't use CashRewards to drop it a few dollars further.
