  • Effectively $152 after cashback, great deal

Ah.. Could have saved myself another $9, used the 5% off code the other day on this. Still $161 after $20 eftpos card is not bad.

You and I are in the same boat. It hasn't even shipped yet. Darn.

      • +1

Yeah, only consolation was I almost got it during the click frenzy thing a week or so back for the same price but held back, so getting it with the $20 eftpos card was a bonus.

        But $9…

        • Goodness, that was impressive. My router arrived today. I only ordered it yesterday! I haven't even received a notification saying they've sent it out.

I'm certainly giving credit where credit is due.

  • Missed the previous deal.
I wonder whether this router is powerful enough to cover 400 sqm, double storey house? Or I should really go for the mesh wifi like Google Wifi or Orbi.

    • +1

Depends on placement and building materials. You are probably going to need 2.

      • it will sit in the study near the entrance. upstairs reception (even above the study) is pretty crap atm (telstra gateway max router).

    • +1

I think my house is about that size, and my DSL-AC68U (dsl version of this router) does a great job. As a former gateway max user, I can agree that they are absolute rubbish - I was very pleased with the results when I switched to the Asus.

If you're in a 400sqm double story house do you really need to spend time shopping for a cheap price —> ebay coupon —> cashback offer?

      • +1

I'd be looking for cheap everything with the mortgage repayments in mind!

      • +3

Obviously a self made millionaire, knows the value of a dollar ;)

For the record my AC68 gives me wifi over a large house and in the back yard

My area do not have cable nor NBN , only ADSL , does this one has a modem built in ?

    • +2

      No, RT-AC68U means it's only a Router.
The equivalent modem/router with ADSL/VDSL Modem is the DSL-AC68U.

thanks for the info, was just about to buy

      • Thanks 1 bug .

I bought this router a couple of days ago, arrived yesterday to resolve interference on the 2.4 band in my 3 story townhouse.
I formerly had a Netgear N300 and a crappy Netcomm TPG supplied router - both had issues. Its connected on the middle floor.
On 5G, I have 100/40 NBN FTTP and with this router, I get over 90MB in 90% of the house, lowest anywhere is about 80MB
Looks to have resolved my issues well.

  • Hmm, bought the same router from them on the 15th. Do you reckon I can claim the cash back??

  • What do these after market and better branded modems/routers have over the default factory given ones from the ISP's? Better range and connectivity? Speeds?

  • What would be a good modem to go with this router?

  • I'm looking at replacing my existing Fritzbox 7390 - The wireless isn't that great in this apartment and I think going the ASUS may boost it.

If I have NBN I don't require a modem do I? Just a router right?

    • It depends what NBN technology you have (eg. FTTN, HFC, FTTP, etc).

  • The eBay listing says

****PLEASE NOTE: THIS PRODUCT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 'FTTN' NBN CONNECTIONS****

    Why?

    • FTTN (& FTTB) requires a VDSL2 modem. This router doesn't have a built-in modem.
However, you can run a Router behind a bridged VDSL2 modem if you already have the modem.

  • Will this run fine on NBN HFC bridging to a Telstra router? Can I still get the VOIP to work as well? Can you run custom ROM's on this?

  • I have this modem on adsl connection and it keeps dropping the connection like hell. Tried different modem and changed settings still similar outcome.
