  • Call rates are here as I don't have enough space in the original post.

    Voicemail – 35c FF and 25c per 30sec
    13/18 Numbers – 35c FF and 25c per 30sec
International calls – 28c FF and NZ 14c per 30sec, UK 18c per 30sec, China 47c per 30sec <— Only ones I know as of now
    Re-routed calls – 40c FF and 60c per 30sec

    • I think you will find that voice mail, directory assistance ($6 a call or something), int text, MMS are all on top of the cap.

Im not 100% on this deal but their old unlimited $79 cap excluded all that and more

  • How's their internet speeds and coverage? As bad as 3, or the same since they're the same company?

edit: nevermind, read the whirlpool thread. I'll pass.

  • +4

woah, this seems like a really good deal, however after been with 3 for a year i'm never going with them or three again, i'm looking forward to the virgin/optus alternatives!

    • Is Optus better at 3G speeds? Can anyone tell me?

      • i would say yes

        • just moved from optus to 3 worst mistake ive made for a while.

I live in east sydney i have really bad coverage, drop outs all the time and some times no service for hours and forget their line about roaming with telstra if you do it cost you more..

  • Wow these sound too GOOD ! can i get these plans with the iphone4?

  • what does BIS stand for?

    • ^ Blackberry Internet Service. I am kinda annoyed. I just signed up to Vodafone on the $79 cap plan, 2 days ago.

      • +3

see if your plan has a cool off period.

        • There is no cooling off period if you approached Vodafone. It only applies if you were solicited by them. sigh

    • Blackberry Internet Service

      BlackBerry Internet Service

Behavioural Intervention Support! Clearly Vodafone users play up a bit, the little buggers! Probably ODD (Optus Defiant Disorder)! :p

  • I haven't got my phone from Vodafone yet. Does anyone know if I can return the phone then sign up to a better plan for the same phone?

    • +2

there should be 10 days cooling off period.

      • Cheers. I will look into that.

        • If they're posting it to you, you can refuse the delivery. I'm not sure about Vodafone but when I ordered my phone with Virgin and they were out of stock the lady told me to just refuse delivery if I had decided to get another phone by then and the contract would be cancelled. It would be advisable to check with Voda of course.

  • +1

very nice… I'm currently on Voda & only 2 weeks away from an upgrade… good timing Voda :)
Does anyone have an idea of any deals on phones?

  • is the $45 unlimited per mnth plan over 24 months for iphone 4 with no extra to pay or is it for shite phones and 45$ with 30$ extra gets u an iphone so really is same as optus etc?

  • Unlimited national calls, SMS and MMS - $45. Very good deal - if you have lots of friends and relatives on Optus or Tel$tra networks.

Only down side is international call credit is limited to $45.

    • Sorry I made the OP a little clearer, you don't get $45 for international calls on the $45 plan, its only on the above plans. However they do have international packs but at an extra cost.

Spent a total of about 2 1/4 hrs on the phone to Vodafone today. 2 hours of that was on hold waiting for someone to answer. All I wanted to do was activate a SIM. By the time they answered the Activation team had finished for the day.
If this is an example of their customer service, then I hope there Network is brilliant.

    • +2

Yes it is exactly the service you receive. I also made that mistake yesterday, but I hung up after 2 1/2 hours. I recently made a complaint to the TIO, but there isn't much you can do, if you want to be a customer of Vodafone you will have to put up with it.

      • this is exactly what I get with Vodafone broadband internet!!
no way I would ever join this company again, I mean…NO WAY!!!!!!

if you guys/girls want to waste 2 HOURS waiting on phone,
and when they can't resolve the problem(due to their system/parts),
they would PROMISE to call you back with solutions/solving problems,

        you think it sounds good?
NO!!!! they WON'T call you back & problem still there,
prepare to call Vodafone again & WAIT ANOTHER 2 HOURS + time to explain + solving problems!!!

this is what you will get!!!
at least, this is what I get EVERYTIME I called them!!!
(I even asked the supervisor to PROMISE to call me back which NEVER happened)

        • That is the reason why I contacted TIO. They leave you with no option, you go round and round for hours then end up back where you began. They promise the supervisor will call you within 24 or 48 hours…I am still waiting from 2 calls 3 weeks ago! I am happy with the coverage and the cost, it is only a problem if you have a problem, if you know what I mean.

    • +1

I was also trying to contact them for the last 5 days regarding an online order spend more than 2 hours everyday but still couldn't talk with them

They have charged to my credit card 3 weeks back , I don't receive any email confirmation for the order , even now i am on the phone for arroung 1 hour

      • +1

A suggestion on Whirlpool is to ask 'LARA' for disconnections and you will get put through to an Australian call centre - might be quicker

  • Ahh. This is a very good rate. The problem is, I am conflicted in that I want better coverage and speeds than I currently do with Optus, and I don't think Vodafone will be able to provide that. No point having unlimited calls when you can't use the thing.

    • I've used Optus before and I left because of myself being cheap - it is not worth it.

  • +1

dont think i can be botheres upgrading ask the time spent waiting on the phone is proli worth more than the savings i'll get. Regardless, good deal for new signups.

    • Esp if you can use this with nrma member benefits,

  • +1

Six in my family, until recently three were optus the other three on… 3. As of this week only one remains with 3 (his friends all call each other for free, and he's locked to contract). I have never been impressed with 3/Vodafone coverage in general or 3G in particular, but the real deal breaker is their customer service. Optus are nothing to grin about, but if you ask the right question you'll usually get a straight answer. If you have a problem and you go in store (when they're not flooded, like for two months after the iPhone 4 release) you'll get some proper help.

Whenever I had to call 3 for something I would hang up frustrated. When my brother's phone stopped working they referred him to a third party repairer who voided it. Then when he had another problem they refused to honour their insurance, since the guy they'd sent him to was not an authorised repairer. No, I think I'll avoid 3/Vodafone like the damned bubonic plague.

    • Likewise, I bought my phone almost 2 years ago because they were getting 3G next month. 2 years on, no 3G, and I wouldn't be surprised if they only have 1 tower in town (60,000 people) because the reception is crap, my calls drop out all the time, and they refuse to nullify the contract - which I think they should, they're hardly providing a reasonable service. I've got a telstra prepaid for the time being, full reception all the time (when it rains I can still use it!).

  • +2

Now if only Vodafone fixed their network instead of baiting even more new customers to further clog it up

  • +1

So, the catch is you never have reception to actually make a ton of calls?

  • +1

If this was on the optus network i would jump on this. Never again will I go with vodafone/three

  • Seems a good deal for those who do not do international calls.

I'll be sticking to my 3 plan getting 450 worth of calls international + local and i never exceed it anyway

Regarding coverage, people come on whingepool only when issues crop up. No-ones comin on that forum to say look how awesome my network is.

Well Ive been with 3 for 5 years and only faced network issues a couple of times.

    • "people come on whingepool only when issues crop up"

It may seem intuitive to think so, but it's not really true. There are plenty of positive comments about various deals on there. Generally speaking, there seems to be a good community of whirlpool users that just like to discuss things and answer questions, so it's not one sided.

An easy example is a look at their job forums. There are tonnes of posts by people (I'd venture to say the majority) who aren't looking for answers to their own questions but simply like answering questions, providing information and having discussion.

  • Lucky for me I haven't done a contract upgrade as yet. I've never had any issues with Voda for the last 6-7 years I have been with them. As for overloading the network, Optus is the worst for that as they resell so much of it. In metro areas, Optus is even worse for 3G (Sydney CBD for example). Coverage-wise, I don't care about any area other than where I need to go, and considering I can get 3G mobile broadband even in a B&B 25mins out of Bathurst, that's just fine and dandy. I'll definitely be taking them up on this new plan, and eliminate my homephone too!

  • I signed up with vodafone a few months ago. It was the first time, I had a smart phone with 3G access. Previously I used to be with optus, with a standard mobile.

I have to say the reception and 3G access with vodafone is absolutely lame. Internet is usually slow, often have drop outs when trying to make a call, phone waiting time for customer service is long… They really should do something about reducing the congestion, before trying to get more people to sign up.

I totally regret joining with vodafone. Retrospectively, I probably should have paid more and joined telstra. Now I am stuck on a 24 month contract.

    • Smartphones tend to have weaker antennas than the older phones, maybe try your old phone with the Vodafone sim and see if the issue still happens? If not, then it's the phone and not the network. For example, I get slightly worse reception at home with my HTC Desire than my SonyEricsson C905.. but still perfectly usable.

  • My personal experience is that Voda/3 is cheap but:
    1. their reception is bad, dropped calls are normal
    2. their 3G network is congested and slow
    3. their customer service phone queue time is 30-60mins

If you want cheap calls on a better network try Virgin beancounter or TPG.

    • Voda network is not the same as 3. I used to have 3 when they paired with Telstra and it was horrible, the calls would drop as it switched networks etc. Ended up using their "Satisfaction" guarantee which let me return the phone within 30 days if I wasnt happy and they cancelled the contract. I went back to Vodafone and it's been fine. If you need maximum coverage and ultrafast speeds on your 3G, then you go Telstra, but you gotta pay through the nose for it.

  • As much as it's a good deal, however I just don't rate Vodafone's network (to be fair I'm comparing them to Telstra). Now that I've ported from Voda to Telstra I've not looked back.

  • I've been with Vodafone since 1998 on a corporate plan; I both work/reside in a capital city (Brisbane), and travel only really to major metropolitan areas.

It's interesting reading all these negative comments, as I can honestly say that I don't recall any recurring call dropouts that people mention above. That being said, we use old school non-smartphone nokia handsets, and don't intentionally use 3G data (unless you buy a smartphone using your own cash). There has obviously been some remote locations where call coverage was minimal, but it wasn't just localized to Vodafone.

The company I work for employs thousands of people in ANZ, with a good portion sales based. So you can imagine call dropouts would not be acceptable.

Are people experiencing call dropouts with Vodafone in major cities of Australia?

Or, is it just the 3G data network that is crap?

    • I'm in Newcastle & I have always gotten quite a few dropouts or even complete lack of signal to make or receive any call with voda! Watching the screen on the phone whilst in the open & stationary is often amusing, it goes from full 3g signal back to 2g only, then up or down a little, or sometimes nothing…up & down continually! :o

When there's heavy rain the problem is particularly bad; when we had the floods in '07 I couldn't use Vodafone for two whole days, thank goodness I had access to other people's Optus & Tel$tra phones! ;)

  • when you compare the 85 cap with the 79 cap. I don't think there's any real benefit other than paying more :P especially if you're after BIS too

  • I'm a bit surprise to see many people fed up with Vodafone. I use it for 3-4 years on prepaid and never had any issue with call drop off or long waiting on the centre (max 20 mins).
NB: I changed to three cuz I wanna get iPhone 3GS for a cheaper plan.

I had pretty bad experience with Optus mobile broadband in last year (using that USB dongle). It was so terrible that the Internet dropped off every 1-2 minutes (and they took of 20-30MB every time I reconnected). While other dude-mates all use 3 and were fine. In the end I had to tethering my laptop to my 3 mobile and it worked more than fine (although was a little slow).

I think it depends on your location. When I moved to another suburb, my neighbour had to switch from Voda to Optus with the similar problem I have with Optus.

Three is not too awful in overall but the signal strength always drop off when I'm on the train from Kings cross to Redfern through underground track.
BTW, does other network has signal in this case?. If yes, once the contract done, I can churn to a better network so I can surf net on the train.

  • iphone 4 16GB $18 on $45 infinite plan…..doesnt impress me much!!!!

  • Took them only six months to send me a proof of purchase so I could get a phone repaired - inching closely to the end of warranty period.

  • Infinite plan…

I recon the only downside to this plan is you can use $45 for international calls.
Not so good for ppl with friends and family overseas. They might as well go for a $29 cap or 39 or 49 cap where they can make 400 bucks of international calls.

And most people wouldn't use up those call credit anyway under normal use.
But if u aint have ANY friends/family to call overseas….this is the plan to go for.

But also, free unlimited calls to PERSONAL mobiles only. How the heck would you know if that guy is signed up with his/her ABN. BANG….knocked down with big bill again~~~

NOT SO SMART PLAN I THINK OVERALL.

  • If you call international, then obviously the other plans are better, and they are STILL AVAILABLE. No one is forcing you to choose an Infinite plan you know.

Personally, I'll use a calling card and spendabout 0.5c per minute speaking overseas, far cheaper and can be used anywhere from any phone…..

Also, Where does it say personal mobiles only?
Try this link for the specific Ts&Cs -
    http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/plans/infinite/termsandc…

nothing in there about restricting the types of mobiles you can call, it says "unlimited" for both Vodafone/3 and Other Networks.

  • I done a business deal for 4 phones and managed to get the $45 unlimited plus new Iphone 4's and Galaxy S's for about $50/m 24months contract (which works out to be around 4 months free each plan)

AND I managed to convince him to include voicemail within the cap (so its free to retrieve!)

I couldn't ask for any better

  • Does Voda offer free iPhone tethering?

Also - what's up with these deals… $45 gets you 1GB… then you have to pay an extra $55 to get an extra 3GB? You could just get a dongle $39 for an additional 6GB??

Amazing deals but the data costs seem outta whack.
