Dr Martens 1460 Boots (Black & Cherry Red) ~AU$150 Shipped (~£85) @ Amazon UK

410

Good price for a legit pair Docs (they're sold from Amazon directly, not a third party seller). Both Black and Cherry Red are available but only in the smooth leather variant.

The Cherry Reds are slightly cheaper (some sizes show as much as £8 less, most are around £1-£4 less). Prices vary from size to size, most sizes are in stock.

For comparison, the cheapest price for local stock is at The Iconic ($200). They went as low as ~$170 at The Iconic and Glue for Click Frenzy, they might get that low again for Black Friday but I doubt they'd go much lower unless it's for less popular colours/sizes.

  • Are these cool again?

    • +28

      They were never not cool.

        • +4

I find them to be pretty comfortable for what they are.

        • +8

They're heavy if you're used to wearing crap shoes

        • +4

@WTF - "They are like waking around with a bunch of bricks tied to your feet."

Oh, please! I often use them when I travel and can walk all day in them. I love the good traction and ankle support they provide.

          @YellowDieselGolf:

They are comfortable, and very comfortable when broken in.

@RoughMetaphors: +1 I wear mine every single day, only exception is when I occasionally wear a dress all day. Comfiest shoes ever

  • Is the US size the same as Aus?

Edit: looks like UK is the same as Aus.

    • No, UK is one smaller than Aus. Or at least for female sizes. I'm an Australian 11 sometimes 12, but a UK 10. My previous docs were UK 9.5 but now I have 10s and they're definitely better

    • This size chart might help: https://postimg.org/image/bngmgtq3p/

      • Thanks, I hadn't seen a specific Docs one before, and also has the unisex on it. But unless I'm missing something it doesn't have Aus size on it.

I usually wear an Aus size 9, I think I'll grab the UK size 9. From what I can gather that will be either the same as Aus size 9 or a little bigger. If they're slightly too big I'm ok with that, don't want too small.

These appear to be made in Vietnam. Basic research says that these may start falling apart in as little as 2 years. The Made in UK variety is a lot better apparently.

    • Thanks. Probably would've pulled the trigger on these if not for your comment. What makes you think these are made in Vietnam?

      • It is in the reviews (some are made in India as well) and in the Q&A section of the Amazon listing.

    • +1

I work off the basis that unless the item description state the shoe/boot are Made in England, they are not.

      http://www.drmartens.com/uk/c/1460

The 'Vintage 1460' state in the description
"The Made in England Vintage collection is handcrafted by our Northamptonshire factory cobblers using original construction techniques - …."

      Look for the Vintage range.

Had mine almost two years, no problems except the soles are quite worn.

      • Are yours made in Vietnam?

        • Yeah mine are exactly the same, from the same Amazon.co.uk listing

      • +2

My first pair were English and lasted about 6 years, my next two pairs were made in Vietnam and lasted 2 to 3.

I will be buying English ones when my current set wear out.

        • If you condition the leather regularly they will last forever (at least until the soles wear through)

        • +2

they now sell "For Life" Docs including a version of the 1460. they are more expensive with better materials and a ~10% handling fee every time you use the life time replacement warranty.

        • @antikythera:

Thanks antikythera. Both of my crappy pairs have split on the top where my foot bends. I believe the English ones have better quality leather.

    • The UK ones are a lot more expensive!

For reference I've seen made in Thailand, made in Vietnam and made in China variants, and that's about my order of preference.
Thai made ones lasted me about 3 years, Vietnam about 2, the Chinese ones were a slightly different shape and only lasted about 18 months.

      • +3

i've had the thai ones for over 3 hours and they're still going strong

      • +1

Agreed - bought a pair that were made in China, could not wear the leather in no matter how much I tried chafed back of my feet so badly I got rid of them

        Never again

    • I have one of the pairs from when they first moved production (India I think, probably 15 years ago) and they are perfectly fine.

    • +1

Yeah those communist Vietnamese could never challenge the skill and prowess of westerners….oh wait

    • How do you know where they are made?

Searched online, a few shops offer lower price, $118, $125….Any issues with them?

Really want to buy a pair for myself.

  • -1

Ridiculously expensive! They were way below half that price around 10 years ago.

Same with Fred Perry polo shirts. They were cheap as chips before. Now they are designer clothes prices. Crazy!

Market repositioning. I guess all the 70s skinheads are earning good salaries these days….

    • +1

Nope “a good price” has always hovered between $120-$180 as long as I can remember, and well worth it at that price.

    • +2

Nup. Bought mine for $180 in 2003.

    • +3

You know not of what you speak.

      • -1

        Thanks. Same to you.

        • +4

I've been buying these things since the early 90s. They have always been somewhere mid-high $100's, so in fact the price has come down over time, if you take inflation into account. The 1460 boots have NEVER been anywhere near the prices you are talking about at RRP.

Once you get through the wearing-in/blisters stage, they are a great piece of kit - best everyday wearers you will own, particularly if you are heavy on your feet. As others have said, the UK versions were always the best, but the Thai/Viet/Elsewhere versions are not as bad as people make out.

If you're going to try and turn people off a deal, at least get your facts straight.

        • @ozoner:

I guess I bought mine in the UK where they were £30 or thereabouts.

        • @tightwad:
          Nice save…

        • @ozoner:

That was the norm then. Same with Fred Perry. £10?

They were the uniform of choice of the poor. $180????!!!!! What?????

  • There is an ebay seller selling docs for about $130, made in Thailand, which was the same as my previous docs which I got from Amazon for $250. I was sceptical and expected something crap but they are great. Everything is identical to the Amazon pair.

There's a blog entry from a guy that compared the made in Asia ones to the made in UK (vintage) ones and the made on Asia ones were a lot better

    • +3

There's a blog entry from a guy that compared the made in Asia ones to the made in UK (vintage) ones and the made on Asia ones were a lot better.

I read that. IIRC the blog post was from around 2008 and he recently amended his statement and said they have improved since then. He still thinks the Asian ones are more comfortable but the leather is now noticeably better on the UK pair.

    • which ebay seller? can you link it please?

  • No steel caps?

  • kinky boots

  • Are these combat boots?

  • all it thread reminds reminds me of is alexei sayle singing "Dr martens boots" on the young ones. And they are the best boots I have brought except the heel wears down a little fast

  • This is a good price if they are UK made but for the Asian versions sub $100 is reasonable. I bought the same last year for ~$65 from one of the many Surfstitch Doc sales
