        Lol.. so aggressive

        • +1

Trust me, that was the nice version of my comment.

        • -1

@Lorindor: so, if i give you the link would you go away?

        • +4

          @Jamesx:

That depends, is it accessible by everyone or was it a once off deal/sale?

        • +5

@Jamesx: you no have link you bs you missing link.

        • +3

@Jamesx: James, where be that link?

    • +6

With usb3 and 8GB??? Yeah, get outta here.

BTW, this sort of PC is great for general use, or gaming with low-profile GPU. But no longer makes much sense as HTPC.
For less, you can get a brand-new silent mini-PC with 4K HDMI out, or Android-TV, or an Apple TV …

      • Easy Hackintosh if add a GPU. 3770 onboard graphics also works.

        • 3770 onboard graphics also works.

But that is on i7, not this pc.

        • @manic:
Yeah so you gotta weigh up adding GPU vs better CPU.

    • Deal not for you as you just bought something similar.

    • I seem to remember a similar deal, but it was an older i5 and I can't remember the rest of the details.

      This seems a reasonable deal.

  • Is this worth it ?
Looking for a small PC to throw in the lounge for my dad, he’ll be doing basic things like downloading YouTube etc.

    • +1
      • But would it be able to handle well on a 4K TV ? Also I don’t mind as long as it’s the best deal, it’s fine if it’s overkill.

And I’d need a separate wireless device right?

        • +1

But would it be able to handle well on a 4K TV ?

I'd go with the Dell OP with i3 at a bare minimum, otherwise yes the HP Elite will be able to handle it no worries.

And I’d need a separate wireless device right?

Correct, you would have to install either a wireless USB adapter or PCI card to connect it to your home network.

Edit: donnot's comment below sounds right, you would probably need a dedicated graphics card (perhaps something like this would do the job).

        • +1

If you wanted to output 4K (24/60p) you'd need a separate GPU for all the above systems and the one in the OP unfortunately. Nothing wrong with FHD though.

        • @Lorindor:

I have a 3.0 USB from a machine I’m not using at home so I should be okay, as for 4K the TV is built in and I have a MiBox this is more so my dad can download and do his own thing in the lounge.

I’ll just buy it and get a wireless keyboard.

          Thanks :)

    • Just be aware that many of these older small boxes can have quite loud fans. OK for the corporate office, but too noisy for a lounge.

      • Oh dam… what’s the alternative for a silent mini pc?

  • is it able to run VM on it?e.g: VM Workstation

  • Looking for cheapest option for Steam to play Jackbox TV 3 hooked up to tv, thinking this is not a bad idea - thoughts?

    • +2

cheapest option for Steam to play Jackbox TV 3

      MINIMUM:
      OS: Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: 2 Ghz Dual Core or higher
      Memory: 4 GB RAM

You could get away with the $80 Core2-duo box linked above. But this one would play a lot more steam games.

If you want cheap, you could use a Steamlink with your exisiting PC.

      • Awesome thanks for your reply!

  • anyone know how are these compared to the dell optiplex series? Optiplex is like and tank and just keeps going for years and years.

    • These HP desktops are not far off to be honest, I manage a hundred or so Compaq DC7900's at work which are over five years old and are surprisingly still going strong, (even with C2Ds), I'd say only a handful have had minor failures such as faulty hard drives.

      • cool. although the dell SFF have a upperhand on looks :P wasn't quick enough for the 9020 deal yesterday

        • although the dell SFF have a upperhand on looks

I agree, I snagged a 9010 from a previous deal and use a 9020 at work and have always preferred them over HP equivalents.

        • @Lorindor: they all ugly look like busted baboon bum.

  • Can I change the HDD with an SSD later on please reply.
    Thanks

    • +2

If you mean the retailer then ask them.

    • +2

Yes, you can also add an SSD as an additional hard drive.

  • How is it up-gradable to Windows 10? I thought that was just a MS promotion that ended last year. Or by up-gradable, do you not mean for free?

  • Looking to grab this for my folks as a plex box. So connected to their tv and downloading/streaming.
So I’m guessing I would need a wireless USB dongle and a video card (for the hdmi out) can anyone recommend a video card?

    • If you really want to use this as a STB, no video card, just DP->HDMI adapter or cable.
The video card upgrade is for more recent games, or 4K buffs.

However, better to get a small arm device for a PLEX front end.

      • The folks will still want to download stuff as well, so I need something that can pass audio and video via hdmi.

        • +1

DP->hdmi does audio. (Not on some Macs?)

        • thanks! I had no idea! I always thought DP was video only. Cheers.

        • +1

          @franga:
you were probably thinking of DVI.

  • I bought the BenQ screen the other day, does https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Optiplex-790-SFF-Intel-i3-2… have a HDMI port? Specs say one display port?

Will be used for word processing, youtube, some photo viewing and internet browing. All good or should I go the https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-Compaq-8300-Elite-Intel-i5-34… instead?

    • Get a Display Port to HDMI cable and you should be good.to go.

      • deleted.

    • does https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Optiplex-790-SFF-Intel-i3-2… have a HDMI port?

      Specs say one display port?

You just answered your own question.

      • Well it seems display port can mean a few things. It it is HDMI, great, but doesn't seem like it is.

        • +3

You're misunderstood, DisplayPort is a type of port (much like HDMI is another type) which is unique and requires a certain cable to use, it's not just a generic name given to a port that is used for displays.

        • @Lorindor:

Thanks for clearing that up, seems I do need a Display Port to HDMI converter. Cheers for replying.

      • And you could have shone the torch a little brighter for the man straight up.

  • Anyone know if it can fit a GTX 1050ti LP?

    • It can and the power supply is meant to handle it as well.

I went cheap and got GT710 as it has OSX native drivers for Hackintosh.

    • Correct, I had a 750Ti in mine but considering upgrading to a 1050 if I can get one at a decent price.

  • Bought one of these a few months ago from 3igagdget, biggest purchasing mistake I've made in recent memory. PSU lasted a week. Bought another PSU that is supposedly compatible (for the 8200 and similar models, hard to find information but people "in the know" on forums seemed to think the PSUs were all identical and therefore interchangeable). Had to go back to my windows XP PC (which I am using now).
