    Free ?.. these arent free!

I purchased 3 in the last sale and I have to say these are excellent machines for the money. All in very good condition with no dust in them. One of them literally looked unused.

Some information that may help buyers:

    OptiPlex 9010 Spec Sheet: http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheet…
OptiPlex 9010 Tech Guidebook: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/optip… (very thorough and informative)
    OptiPlex 9010 Drivers: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/pr…

I highly recommend updating to latest drivers and BIOS as I noticed the fan was blowing a lot louder in one of the machines I had. Updating to latest drivers/BIOS resolved this and it is as quiet as you could expect. The latest BIOS update also patches a widespread vulnerability in Intel AMT (INTEL-SA-00075).

Highly recommend both the seller and the Dell!

    • +5

Thanks for the recommendation, really appreciated.

      • Hi OP, are these recent units also in excellent condition? and what about the warranty as its not seemed to be mentioned much at all
        thinking of buying thanks

        • +1

Based on the Ebay feedback I'd guess it's a bit of a gamble. After lots of headaches and a couple of minor burns, I'll only go ahead with a seller feedback under 99.5% unless I'm willing to "takes me chances". In any case these are second hand computers so if you get one in great shape you have to consider that a bonus.

    • +4

Want to add that make sure you update drivers, especially the Gigabit ethernet driver. This could resolve serious stability issue.

    • May I ask what you used them for?
      Sorry noob question.

      • +1

Replacing aged Core 2 Duo machines for the family. Downsizing from ATX cases that are half empty. One will replace an Intel NUC that was being used as a HTPC.

        • Hmm not sure what those last few things are but thanks anyway.

        • +2

@Hirolol: Last one means using it as a home theatre PC is better than using an Intel Nuc (Really small form factor PC in a box with basic outputs) as the CPU is stronger and you can put a couple 3.5" hard drives in this whereas a NUC can only fit a 2.5" drive.

        • @Agret:
Wow thank you for the explanation!

    • +1

Also bought one, excellent condition, very happy with purchase.

Just a note on drivers (if you're reinstalling windows on SSD etc, if you are encountering a BSOD when installing drivers, it's likely due to an issue with Intel chipset USB-3 drivers. Unfortunately Intel gave series 7 and series 8 the same product ID, so Windows accidentally installs the series 8 drivers (which cause the glitch). Manually install and select Intel chipset series 7 drivers for USB3 and all is well.

    • i have one of these. The latest bios firmware wont accept my patriot 1600mhz ddr3. Had to stick with A09

  • +4

Replace the HDD with a solid taste and you've got a pretty decent work desktop for the price :)

    • +45

I got a solid taste in pizzas.

      • +1

        solid

      • +5

        state* my bad LOL
solid taste in pizza does sound better though lol

    • +3

      STD?

  • can i insert a 1050 graphic card inside ?

    • +1

      what ever floats your boat.

Low profile and check power requirements against PSU.

    • +1
      • What's the difference? Does the one that does work get power from pcie, and the one that doesn't work require a 6pin power plug?

        • I think the second one is not SFF?

    • +6

Any low-profile GTX 1050 should fit in fine (as will a LP GTX 1050 Ti or GT 1030), with two caveats:

      1. It has to be a model without a PCI Express power input, which pretty much all low-profile cards will be, so this one is probably moot
      2. The power supply and motherboard need to be capable of delivering 75W of power through the PCIe slot. I'd say you'd also be safe on this one, 75W is all part of the standard spec as far as I'm aware, though YMMV. A GTX 1050 Ti is going to be cutting it a lot closer than a GTX 1050 in this example. If you find that you put a GTX 1050 in one of these and it doesn't work, return it and either track down a low-profile GTX 750 Ti or GT 1030.
      • I'm one of those who put a Gigabyte 1050ti in this machine. So far so good.

        • Which model?

        • @bdl: Something like this (not affiliated, just example)

        • @tmr3: Thankyou, just ordered one from MSY :)

    • +1

The specs from Dell are for a maximum of 50W on the slot. The 1/2 height 1050ti relies on the slot for its power and the power supply wouldn't feed a 6 pin card connection anyway:-/.
Still, many are doing it -it is discussed here:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4973223/redir

You have two more slots for expansion on the HP 8300 SFF PCs the OP is trading, but both the Dell and the HP have 240W power supplies, and a GTX 1050ti seems to be the card of choice for those who like the smell of scorching circuit boards faster speed.

  • +3

Hi rep, nice of you to pop in OzBargain.

  • Wow, this PC almost exactly matches my main PC specs (bought in late 2012) - same exact CPU and RAM. Can't believe that's all such a PC is worth these days. Mind you I have a GTX 660 in mine.

    • New, these were ~$1,300 (no Office)

  • What's the motherboard make and model? Or do they vary?

    • Motherboards are proprietary

    • Proprietary Dell using an Intel chipset

  • +1

    Is the RAM 2 * 4GB sticks or 4 * 2GB sticks?

    • Sorry mate, ram configuraitons may be mixed.

  • Ordered 1. This looks perfect for my parents!

  • Anything i7 equivalent? Sorry, it's hard to navigate ebay that produces results only by OP business name (Bneacttrader).

    Thanks in advance.

  • 3.1Ghz not for 3.4 Ghz. Thanks

    I have this BEAST.

well yeah you would think a decent 2014 desktop would run a low end 1999 game.

      • +13

I'm negging you. Not for missing the joke, but for calling AGE a LOW END GAME :@!!

        ;)

        • +1

age is a low end game.. (im talking spec wise, not game quality)

Ha ha you are converted now.

this paired with a low profile GTX 1050 ti and you got yourself a decent gaming system. i got a GTX 1050 in my ryzen 7 system and i dont even feel the need for a new gpu, these things are solid.

133 bucks after tax write off

    Great Post Rep!

  • Anyone able to confirm if this has HD4000 graphics? The 3570 is capable of 4000, but this and the previous post talks about 2500… Quite a difference between the two and not sure if it's just a motherboard limitation.

EDIT: Seems that only the 3570K supports 4000.

  • How many hdd can you fit in this?
Thinking of a plex server freenas setup

    • You can fit 2 x 2.5" Drives

  • Noob here: If i buy this and a gtx 1050 will i be sweet for gaming?

    • Should be able to fit a low profile 1050/1050ti in there. Haven't done much research on how much power the PCIe slot will put out, but from what I've seen it should be fine with 75W.

Might want to get someone else to confirm/do some further research. The 790/990 series had no issues with a 1050/ti.

    • +1

You'll be running 1080p games on med-high with no dramas i think. Would be a good combo. I used to run a 750 in one of these and it was good, but the 1050 will be perfect

      • Old games maybe but not recent AAA titles. The 1050ti is very close to a 670 but with 4gb of vram. Until recently I use to have 670's in quad sli and they struggled with AAA titles. Fallout 4 lowest settings @ 1080p = dropped frames but playable… Just. Doom 2016 much the same. Older games like dishonored ran on max settings @1600p no problems.

        • i was playing fallout4 and battlefront on my 750ti @ 1080 on medium with no issues. We arent talking 60fps here but it was perfectly acceptable. The 1050 is far better than the 750. Also, 670s might seem comparable on paper and would get much higher rates on titles such as crysis 3 but for newer games the 1050 much better

  • Got one and love it but I had issues with the latest (I think A28) BIOS, system didn't boot after upgrade. No beeps, just a flashing power-light. 2 short & 1 long if recall correctly. My config is 4*2 GB sticks, 2 from Kingston and 2 from SK Hynix. System started fine with BIOS A28 and only the Hynix memory. I'm now on BIOS A15 with all the memory, every BIOS later than A15 didn't boot with the Kingston and Hynix together.
    [edit] it's running A12

    • Thats a bit weird. I can say at least i've sold thousands of these and never heard of an issue like that. If your having drama's. Shoot us a message on eBay and we can arrange the swap out of that unit

    • Thanks for the info. Mine too wouldnt post with 4x 4gb Patriot 1600mhz. I reverted to A09 but glad to know that A15 works. What was the ram's speed?

edit: actually it wouldnt post with that ram in any config

    • mines running happily at A12 now as well. Thanks for that info. I am running Patriot Viper 2 1600mhz. Theyre supposed to be rated at 1.65v, and dell recommend using the crucial ram (rated at 1.5v). I noticed despite inserting 1600mhz ram, theyre running at 1067

  • Thats pretty good value

  • Just curious - how long do these refurbish machines take to boot up? (including login)

    • If you want fast boot up speeds, install a solid state drive. That goes for any machine with-out one.

      • Hi rep, mine came with win10 pro. Couldn't find the product key. If I was to install an ssd How would I licence windows? Does it just work?

Also there was a win7 pro sticker/key on the case. Can I revert to win7 pro using this key if I preferred?

        Thanks.

        • Use the Windows 7 Key to activate you copy of Windows 10.

  • just bought one. 4 left

  • bad Luck, non left. All SOLD.

  • I purchased mine through the last post, the case it self arrive a little scratched and scuffed but to be expexted, the internals were well free of dust though overall pleased with the purchase.

I intend on using it as a Plex Server

  • Is it possible to have two harddisk drives in the same unit? 250GB harddisk is not enough. Res re

    • Yes, But, I would highly recommened a Solid State Drive and using a external drive for storage.

      • Any more deals like this happening again soon?

      • Hi Rep, will 8TB 3.5 HDD and 256GB SSD fits inside this machine?

  • +3

Thanks all again for your support. We will try and get these processed and shipped asap.

  • +1

This is a seriously good price for a business-grade machine. They are quiet and support relatively large amounts of RAM. I have installed many Dell Optiplex at businesses and they run without problems for many years. Drivers are very easy to upgrade/install with Dell, simply go to the Dell support website, enter your service tag, and in a couple of clicks a small utility (called "Dell Detect") downloads to your PC to upgrade your drivers. You may then uninstall the utility if you wish, or keep it there for when you next upgrade the drivers.

  • damn, missed out, can anyone recommend one with similar specs around same price?

      • Aside from the HD 2500 graphics rather than HD 4000:-/ Still, if people are putting cards in anyway…

        • I think people said that the dells also had hd2500 not 4000.

        • @masuta: The specs from Dell list both, depending on which processor was used - with the i3 models being the HD 2500 ones. Still, with the HD 2000 coming in with a Passmark score of 313, the 4000 453, the 2500 reported as 10-15% faster than the hd 2000 and the GTX 1050 ti a measly 5751 I guess those who want it for gaming mght add in a card :-)
The 2500 should still be fine for putting spreadsheets and YouTube clips up on a screen, just not identifying the leaves moving at a virtual 1000 meter range in in interactive FPS…

  • I agree with the above! I would buy one - especially if we could get an SSD to fit! Perfect for my parents!

  • Dear OP, I received the machine, wanted windows 10 but didn't know that I had to email you before hand. Is there any chance I can still upgrade it? Many thanks.

    • You just need to download Win 10 and then do an upgrade, it should activate using the product key that you're now using.

      • It will register with that key if you can legitimately turn on the screen magnifier option or you need any other of the accessibility options as Microsoft are very public minded regarding their disability support options, otherwise you will have a watermark and be unable to change your lock-screen wallpaper.

      • Thanks scrimshaw & terrys I will give this a try a report, just wondering re the magnifier tool do I need to turn it on before or after the upgrade?

        • I assume before.

  • Hi

    Another 20 units available.

    • Thank you! Just bght one!

      • No worries :)

  • Could anyone advice me before purchase, if a Radeon hd 6970 would fit. Cheers

    • That won't fit, and even if it did, the power supply couldn't power that card. :(

      • Many thanks.

  • How's the power consumption of this PC? Planning to run it 24/7 and replace my ageing HP rp5700 Core 2 Duo machine.

    • That's a very hard question to answer. You will have to factor in power efficiency curve of the PSU and then also the age of the capacitors inside the PC. Crazy maths will be involved

a modern PC should not use more than 80~100 watts at idle.

  • Aaaaaannnnddd their gone. Thank you too all again, for you're continued support :)
