  • The Acer Spin 5 is very tempting, something I've been looking at for a while.

No cash rewards at JB? :(

These prices are a part of a wider sale. Jb hi-fi is currently offering 20% off computers until 13 November. As always with these, exclusions do apply but a wide range of computers are now on sale. You’ll score some great savings if you choose a computer which was also part of a catalogue sale and also receives the 20% off treatment (as long as it isn’t an exclusion).

I cannot remember the last time JB offered 20% off computers. The most i had seen in recent memory is 15% off.

  • what about e570p's :/

    • I asked in store, they don't sell Lenovo e570p. Interested to see another deal like last month @scotty

Here you go https://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/deals/current-offers/deals-of-… with the CODE at check out "SINGLE"

    • It's a good deal…

I am very tempted, but it's hard to tell if there will be better deals on this or other models/brands in the coming weeks. :S

  • Right now I'm really liking the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 15" Gaming Laptop https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/dell-gam… but not sure still. I want this to be an all rounder playing media and bringing it to school to take notes.

The next to is so (profanity) confusing the XPS 13 inch the lower model has a finger print scanner https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/dell/del… annd the higher model which costs more doesn't https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/laptops/dell/del… ? Isnt the new model the 8th gen intel i7?

anyone have experience with these laptops? I seriously have been searching around the I found out the XPS you can have customized but I see NOTHING of such thing on the Dell website so I'm not sure what all these reviewers are talking about…

    • I think the Acer Swift 3 is also an good option.
MX150 GPU, so a class above the integrated graphics on the XPS but still a class below the 1050ti of the dell. Can still run many games at Med settings and AAA titles at Low-Med settings.
14" and 1.7kg, so much more portable than the bulky Dell, but still not as ultrabooky as a XPS

Dell eBay has a cheaper gaming option

Yeah the higher priced model is the new 8th gen i7, which is a huge improvement from 7th gen as it is now Quad Core.

      • Thanks man! The reason I choose the XPS because I was about to get the new mac book pro. One of my friends who's into tech said that's a really bad idea because there are better options for far much less. I asked him what is equal to in terms of looks and performance. (Bezels, performance, the style, looks.) The one he showed me was a HP Spectre x360 and the XPS 13 or 15 (8th gen i7).

I probably won't care about the weight because I'll have my bag with me if my arm gets tired. As long as it fits my threes.

        Thoughts?

Yeah the Swift 3 excels in Hardware for the Price, but Screen/Keyboard/Battery Life/Aesthetics is meh.

If you don't need to game, go with the XPS. The Inspiron is heavy, large, meh battery life etc and only really for those who are after gaming. XPS is much more attractive/slim/minimal bezels etc

Both the JB XPS options you linked are Quad-HD though, so the battery life won't be as good as the Full-HD options. I personally prefer the i5-7200U Full-HD XPS for $1439 at Dell eBay after 20% off code (however it has been at that price for ages so I'd be holding off for a lower sale). The i5-7200U performance is very similar to i7-7500U, but both are considerably outperformed by the newer 8th gen.

If you are just taking notes and viewing media, a 7th i5/i7 will handle everything fine for now (but the 8th Gen does have considerable performance boosts, so it'll be more futureproof) Would you rather a very good looking QHD screen at the expense of battery life? Though all XPS has really good battery life, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

        • @lyl:

Yeah, I was planning on waiting for the 8th gen. it already is on the DELL website but the difference is about $600? so 1.4k for last gen vs 2k for new and I was told there was a 15% boost in performance and better battery because its efficient.

Yeah, I dislike the 4k display. What I wanted was the 1080p matte display WITH fingerprint scanner but the U.S (ONLY) allows for customising and not everyone else. So I'm stuck in a dilemma :L.

Yeah, What I wanted was the battery life. What I wanted was a bettery that could last longer than 7 hours because my class is about 7 hours.

I might just jump to the XPS 15 … Man why is buying this so hard. Do you think when christmas comes time that they'll have a better sale? Especially on the new ones?

EDIT1: Omg there is a newer version coming out and it looks so sooo much better. https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/new-dell-xps-13-2018-firs… Thanks to carleast for tellin me!

          @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal:

8th Gen is the biggest upgrade in a while, as the U series CPUs went from Dual Core to Quad Core. IMO the improvement is more than 15%, I'd say even around 50%, it is a real boost from the last gen that 8th gen i5's perform better than 7th gen i7's. Battery life is arguable, as quad cores usually drain battery faster. But the 8th Gen does run at lower base clocks which help battery life, so in the end the battery really depends on what you are doing. Intel's battery life have improved quite a bit with every gen until now, but the jump from 7th Gen to 8th Gen is still questionable whether battery life has improved.

I haven't read much about the XPS, but I think the QHD model should still last more than 7 hours. From memory of past Ozbargain discussions, the FHD versions should last >10 hours, while QHD should last slightly less than 10 hours. Definitely search for a few reviews and see exactly how they compare.

I personally rather the XPS 13 as it's much more portable, but XPS 15 also has really small bezels so it's pretty much a 15.6" laptop in the body of standard 14" laptops.

Not really sure if there'll be better sales @ Christmas, but I'm guessing the new 8th Gen CPU models probably won't go on Sale greater than this current sale, but might be a good chance the 7th Gen will go on a sale as they've been around the same price for a while now.

        • @lyl:

I just wanted to say thank you man. You've been more than helpful to me. I think I'll follow your advice on the 13 rather than the 15 as well.

          Cheers man!

        • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal:

No problem :) First time I saw an XPS 13 I was so surprised at how small it is. The XPS 15 is still very portable though, JB stocks a XPS 15 model as well, so make sure you check them both out physically before making a decision.

        • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal:
New xps looks sweet. I understand your frustration buying right now because there could be a number of good sales upcoming i.e. black friday/ cyber monday/ boxing day/ back to school. It's hard to know what's the best deal. Also seems like there are new 8th gen laptops still incoming.

        • @iLike:

Yeeah man, I keep coming back and fourth from HPs Spectre x360 13 (2017 late edition) and Dells XPS 13.

Spectre has the privacy screen which is cool and has a BLACK/GOLD just looks (profanity) good.

          https://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/HP/Spectre…

XPS 13 has the thin bezel both on top and bottom but a new one is coming out in 2018 at CES with WHITE/GOLD it looks so much better…

        • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: Which one would be better for Gaming? Dell or Acer Swift 3

        • @lyl: Would the Acer Swift 3 be better than the E570p for gaming? The Acer Swift has 10 hour battery life and probably exceeds the E570p but that Graphics card though :/ probably use it for school and playing a bit of league on the weekends

        • @JayJayAU:

I just got my Acer Swift today. I haven't used it much so far apart from playing a bit of Rocket League, but I don't think you'll be able to get 10 hours out of it. The screen is glossy and reflective (and the max brightness still isn't very bright), so you'll be on or close to full brightness most of the time to counter th reflectivity. The one Rocket League session was played on full brightness, and I only managed to get 1 hr 20 min out of it.

I will do some light browsing/studying later tonight and see how the battery fares, but from reviews I'm guessing it'll be closer to around 7 hours, maybe a bit longer at lower brightness/battery saver settings, which should be enough for school use.

This laptop has more than enough power for LOL, search up 'League of Legends 940m' (940M is the predecessor of the MX150) on youtube and you'll see many videos of users getting >120FPS even on very high Full-HD settings. Since the new MX150 performs better, you should be easily get >150 FPS. I've had friends run LOL fine on potato laptops, so it's definitely no problem.

The 1050ti of the E570p is a class above the MX150 though, so if you plan on getting into AAA titles, the E570p is a much better option, though MX150 can probably still barely run them at low-med settings/resolution. I wouldn't want to lug the large and heavy E570p to school at all though, especially if you have to walk long distances.

        • @lyl: So is the brightness not really good?

        • @JayJayAU:

The max brightness less than an average laptop (as reviews has also shown), and the screen is really glossy, but the display isn't too bad.

  • Spins should have ryzen models coming soon.

    That might drive prices down

  • Thanks. My wife was just about to buy a new laptop from the current 20% off Ebay but JB worked out cheaper with discounted gift cards

  • That Inspiron seems like a sweet deal! 1 x USB 2.0 Port though?

  • Deal expired. Missed it by analyzing too much :(
