    That's a hell lot of points ;)

  • You still have almost a month to earn the points balance :)

    • And pay it off by the due date by selling your children for organs

    • Yeah, platinum edge + $83,334 in Woolworths gift cards and you can get gold, easy!

      • +3

Deal is on platinum charge card, so would have to be $250,000 in Woolworths vouchers

        • Yeah, the description says that, but the copy on the image says "as a platinum card member" so I'm assuming that it's probably available for any Amex platinum. Not that $83,334 of groceries is really any more feasible than $250,000 of groceries anyway :D

        • You would think most users have cotton onto the fact Edge/Explorer earn rate for everyday use is helluva better than the Plat Charge itself but the reward program is a bit more flexible.

@mini2: True I only use the Plat Charge for travel/hotels, and Explorer for everything else. But my Explorer points go to my Plat. rewards program. = win-win.

@elyobo: Your assumption would be incorrect. Amex doesn't consider credit cards "platinum", which is why having one will not grant you access to Centurion lounges, for which the access criteria is holding a platinum card.

        • @Kyanar: Seems pretty bizarre on their part that a card with the name "platinum" in it would not be considered platinum, but what can you do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Luckily I wasn't planning on spending $80k on groceries!

  • 500,000 points? or 50,000 @@

    • Five hundred thousand.

  • I value it as 1c per point so platinum will cost you $5000 and Gold $2500. Please note that it states that you will have this level for one year only and I suspect there is a chance that you will not get a golden parachute down to the next level like a normal tiered person would.
Just double check the conditions first if you expect to become gold after a year of platinum.

    • It is unclear to me if the act of transferring the points results in status or to gain status will cost you the points. If it is the former it is a nice bonus, if it is the latter, then not good value.

You still get the points converted from Ascent Premium to Velocity (with a 20% bonus) as well as the status, so it is not costing you $2,500/$5,000.

  • I got this offer, but don't they usually offer 30% bonus Virgin points for platinum charge cards about this time of the year?

  • I only Amex Explorer card, do they have this 20% transfering offer ?

    • +1

There is a 15% bonus running at the moment from Velocity for transfers in

Hypothetically, if you make a $167k purchase on flights/hotels (3 points/$1), get 500k points, transfer to Velocity and then refund, would you be able to keep the 600k Velocity points? Most likely you'll end up with a negative AMEX points balance but that's beside the points.

  • Shouldn't this stack with the bonus 15% deal?

    • No. It's just simply 20% instead of 15%.

    • Transfer your Membership Rewards points between 30 October 2017 and 30 November 2017 and receive 15% Bonus Velocity Points, or 20% Bonus Velocity Points for Card Members enrolled in Membership Rewards Premium Ascent*.

Anyone know what the best AMEX card deal is at the moment. I realise that https://www.pointhacks.com.au/ are probably on deck with current offerings… but curious if anyone else knows of any good deals. Dont wanna pay an annual fee, or prefer an included bonus flight or points if i do. Thoughts anyone?

    • I'm keen to know the same since ANZ ditched my Amex. I just haven't had a chance to put any time into investigating yet; the cost benefit analysis for all the options becomes quite complex.

  • Velocity Gold / Platinum is easy to get with family pooling.. benefit is a crowded Lounge in Sydney & Melbourne - literally a fish market!
