Since when was a regular 1TB WD external hard drive EVER priced at $499?

    • +7

I think it was once $100, with $399 shipping! :p

      • haha, its believable when its SS… so many ludicrous claims on savings attached to what seem to be regular prices.

(also hdd enclosure incorrectly labelled an ext hdd)

the WD external hdd for $134.95 is NOT a WD external hdd, it is a WD internal hdd with an enclosure of a different brand… a bit misleading

        • You mean this?

          http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_58520_Western_Digital_2TB…

How is it misleading? Unless you mean the OP is misleading. Because it is correctly labelled on the SS website.

        • I mean the features page.

          http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/images/banners/042ede71e85c…

          (why can't i reply to your post…?)

        • -> Dan_

People were replying to each other on a few of the deals, till the posts were about 5 characters wide only.

To keep things readable, Scotty limited replies to 4 levels deep.

It has been suggested the reply button be kept, even if it's the same functionality that the replies get no deeper than 4 levels.

However, I'm not sure where that is in Scotty's list of to do's, if it's in Scotty list of to dos.

    • lol, probably they just randomly make a price and think we will all believe it.
on the official WD website, it's about 130.
I can't tell any other ways they can get 499.

      Was–Now advertising

Products or services advertised with a 'was'–'now' price claim should accurately reflect a comparison between the previous price ('was') and the current price ('now') being offered.

Further, the actual previous price must have been offered for a reasonable period prior to the discount offer commencing so that it is a genuine offer and not just a price that has been inflated to make a sale price seem more attractive.

For example, a retailer must not advertise a jacket for $85 ('now' price) discounted from $100 ('was' price), if that retailer does not normally sell the jacket for $100 or if the jacket has been offered at the higher price for only a short amount of time.

    • At SS they were. Another reason to stay away from SS.

  • Do they have a good reputation?

    • +3

They are reliable, but they charge obnoxiously high prices for shipping.

a trick used by many online e-tailers is that they advertise a shipping cap or free shipping, and then at the same time jack up the prices of popular items to make up for the profit loss.

Do a bit of price searching first. MyMemory.co.uk has good prices on USB memory.

      • mymemory.co.uk
Are they a reliable website? I read quite a few negative reviews about them before I placed an order of headphones. I kinda regret after I placed that order because of the negative reviews and the headphones I ordered is the last one in their warehouse(although there is an old saying about "lucky last" I still don't want the last one when I buy things, the last one seems to be very easy to have problems)
Did you have any problems with them?

EDIT:some of their headphones are very very cheap. too cheap to be likely to be genuine. How long is usually their shipping to Australia?

        • I have ordered ps3 games off them and they have been fine. Delivery was about 7 business days. No problems with any of my orders, I have ordered stuff from Amazon and it has taken longer than mymemory.

        • Cheers mate! Your reply gives me some peace of mind. I will just wait a few days to see if I can do more business with them.

  • Was this promo for the weekend? I don't see the $70 Samsung 640gb….did you mean this one: http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_39247_Samsung_640GB_S2_Ex…

EDIT: Don't worry, the link to the full list gives a different price to the promo page.

  • Has anyone ever purchased standalone harddrives from SS?

I'm interested in particular if the drives were shipped using protective materials/standards similar to what the manufacture would expect?

Or.. whether the drives were haphazardly packaged as if they were some cheap disposable shock proof consumable.

Some of the prices of SS are quite reasonable; I'm more concerned what happens once the drives leave their factory and enter the shipping process.

  • +1

Nope - unless they have a $1 shipping, its a nogo

Generally you would count cost as Product Price + Shipping, however with SS you would do a Shipping + Product Price ;)

  • All the 'original prices' are just ridiculous

    • -1

Yeah right, I price checked on eBay and there was no difference , sure there could be better deals, but quit being a fanboy!

  • +2

Yes, ShoppingSquare.com have ridiculously high shipping cost and all their offers are designed so that you can't combine the shipment cost of two or more desirable products. Any $10 cap only applies to junks that they can't sell which are permanently on "Special". Also, most of their products that are listed as "Sold Out" were sold at their Daily Clearance or Special prices which were lower than the prices shown. Deceiving practices.
