  • It will not be updated to Android 8.

    • +1

      Disappointing but true.
Will be the case for many <$200 devices.
I'm intending to use a custom ROM so not a deal breaker for me.

It would be wonderful to live in a world where Phones were just hardware and drivers were provided much like what happens with PC's!

  • im still waiting for my moto e4….

    • Uh, same here. Wonder it'd ever reach…

  • +2

and 16GB RAM ? WOW… beast of a phone lol

    • haha - checked - its 2 GB RAM.

      • awww damn n i got one to run all my games straight in RAM… bummer LOL

        • how many games do you run at the same time.

If the game actually executes on the phone, well that will take up the tiny screen and split screen tp play 2 games on phone at the same time would look tiny.
If it's cloud based like clash of clans, that has the processing done on a server, even when you exit the game it processes your status.

My phones has 6GB ram, and I barely use any of it ..developers work to common installed base of millions to get the broadest audience, not the latest flag ship phones and force users to upgrade … PC is worse, paid for 16GB RAM and haven't been past 8GB.

        • @garage sale: it was a joke…. Lol

    • Sorry, my mistake, meant 2 TB of RAM………………
      Or maybe just 2GB ;)

  • The US model does not have NFC.

  • Adreno 405 GPU has only 59.4 GF. Not quite enough for the 1920x1080 display.
In contrast, the imports at a similar price have a SN625, which has an Adreno 506, with 130 GF.

Still, it's fine for non-graphically intensive tasks and has other good features… and is local.

    • Not sure what you're saying.
This is from Amazon, not local.
Is there a variant of this running a better GPU?
Can you link it, would be interested to see, though probably too late for me as i've already bought 2 of these.

      • Sorry my mistake about the local part.

The other phones with SN625 are different phones altogether, not Moto G. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/337378

The main thing I was saying is that 60GF is low for 1080x1920, for graphically intensive tasks.

        • No worries.
I'd like to get hands on a Xaiomi or similar brand phone some day.
I'm a little put off by places like Gearbest for more expensive items (though use them a lot for low $ stuff!)
Seems in the thread they claim B28, but on the page they don't list it.
Weather it has it or not the confusion of specs is something they need to get sorted, it seems half the time they don't even know what their selling and then default to a favorable answer regardless of the facts.
Ended up off on a tangent there, but really hope to get comfortable buying from GB in future, high profit margins and poor support from the common brands is becoming a concern that brands like Xaiomi could capitalize on with just a little more effort.

        • It is a risk. Though, with xmas sales around the corner, there could be some local carrier-subsidized bargains. Imports can't do that.
Actually, I've found some specs hard to pin down on local phones too (though not for fundamentals like B28).
BTW You probably saw, but there's about 7 phones in that submission.
Yes, the industry seems ripe for a change like that, especially with flagships overshooting market need - iPhone X sales may be a litmus test for the industry as a whole.

        • @yow:

Took a closer look at the ZTE Axon.
          Absolute bargain @ $340 for a SD820 / Adreno 530, 5.5" 1440p OLED with 64GB/4GB
Dual front speakers, fingerprint, OIS, 32bit/192KHz DAC, even a bloody 3.5mm headphone port!
I'd gladly pay $499 for something like that if it had good availability, a clean ROM and good after sales support / warranty.
It's the last few things they still miss on, i hear bad things about Chinese roms etc..
USB 3 Type C too, still to many mfgs using microB ports.

        • @virtual81: I see what you mean, that's flagship quality at a fraction of the price. I think some Axon's are sold locally, maybe we'll see this one, too. Won't solve all those issues though.
