luckily pickup is free and I'm not too far from it

      • You can even pay on pick up

  • How good is this for Australia? No review for use in Australia. Although I ordered for pickup aswell.

Be aware this is the older style and doesn't support all channels, you need DVB-T2 support. The newer models are normally about $20 on ebay.

Also, be super careful with it and only use it with your phone sitting on a table etc. I broke mine in literally under 1 minute. The aerial hanging off the micro usb plug ripped all the pins from their solder joints. Never even finished tuning it :(

No, you need MPEG-4 support to pick up all the channels. This dongle will pick up the MPEG-4 stations, but it's down to the capabilities of your Android device to decode it (your device's CPU needs to support NEON whatever that is).

DVB-T2 is only used overseas. No broadcaster is using DVB-T2 in Australia as of yet.

      • I stand corrected. I haven't looked at the standards for 8 months or so. Looks like they are holding off on DVB-T2 until 2018+
I guess if you do get a DVBT2 model you will have some future proofing.

Beware - these digital TV dongles are usually shocking in terms of reception. I literally could not get a signal at the top of Mount Panorama two years ago during the Bathurst race.

This year, in the exact same spot, I brought along a small LCD monitor, digital set top box and some lithium batteries, but the antenna broke in my bag. My cheap $29 digital set top box picked up a full quality signal with a bare coaxial cable plugged into the back. That should give you an idea of how just how shit these dongles are.

Had a different branded one that looks similar bought from HN on clearance. Have used it in several locations and worked well. Had it hooked up to a 8" HP tablet though. They are not intended for fringe area reception.. you can improve reception by using the coax antenna adapter usually supplied with these things and stick in a balun with a couple of pieces of 6" wire an for antenna. Works wonders with reception strength.

    • Thanks for this, I was about to buy one of these for the Bathurst 12Hr this summer, never been before. Will be camping at Sulman. What STB did you use? I guess I could take our crappy old Optus FetchTV and a PC monitor. Will have plenty of power from the campervan - 400W solar and 100Ah LFP bank.

This is exactly the same as the $9 DLINK ones that Harvey's have been selling for a while now. DLINK doesnt support it anymore with updates, but I use the PADTV app instead to get the same result (it is identical bar the branding & aupports Android 7+).

    • Got one of those. Works well.

    • $9 or $14 ?

    • I got the dlink one, but can't get it to work on Android 7, already tried the pad tv app. Just wondering did you do any modifications to get it work?

Which phone you got? USB-C or Micro-USB? It worked for me on both my Xperia Z5C and Galaxy Tab S2 after they upgraded to Nougat. Didnt work very well on my Note 8 though with the converter unfortunately.

Make sure you use the HD version:

        • Thank you for the reply. My phone is S8 plus. I tried with the converter but no luck as you have mentioned. I will try whether it will work on nvidia shield.

  • Ahh yes, just the ticket for beer gardens… thanks OP!

  • Their online order processing is soo slow…
Should have just gone in-store and bought it lol

  • …Fish on!
