Good temporary phone, but does not hold up after 6 months. Battery life becomes abysmal and performance drops. Mine didn't last more than a year

    • What about if you root it and install a custom rom like lineage?

      • Seems restored's phone is already rooted?

        • What phone is "restored"?

      • did that countless times, improved for a short period of time and soon enough became unusable

    • check what crap is running in the background…. i have the problem with my 10year old he just installs stuff with defaults and “boom” notifications running in the background battery life diminishes and then i do tech support and turn that stuff off and then the phone runs fins again.

  • How does this compare to the Samsung J1 & J3 ? Perhaps a new "J" series would be better than an old "s" series?
Is there something the "s" series gives you that makes it worth so much more?

      Removable battery

I don't know of any apps that won't run on an S5. It pretty much does everything you need. Great phone. Good price.

Great phone, great price. Posted from my S5. My battery screen-on-time is 3-4 hours on 4G after the official Marshmallow update.

    Only 3.5 years old…

Note: my current phone but due for an upgrade.

    Oh come on, Galaxy S5?
I would prefer a Xiaomi phone..

Good general phone, nice size, replacable battery and generally solid performing device. Work have a fleet of them and they are robust and dependable. I owned one for two years, recently put a new batt in and gave it to mum who loves it. Only downside is the camera. Not the best but takes good clear photos in daylight and HDR does a better job than my s7

  • Good price for an older person who doesn’t really know how to use phones with touch screen and always uses the phones with a number pad.

Bit too good I would say, but would make most people like that really happy. Who does not like a FHD Super Amoled 5.1" scree.

As someone whose mother is still rocking an S3, the S5 will be a welcome upgrade to her - she swears by Samsung S phones (no idea why!) but she doesn't really want to spend all that much.

  • I still use my S5.
Stick LineageOS on there, and you will be very, very happy with this phone.
I have people asking me every day what phone I have and they are all impressed when I tell them an S5

    • I don't understand, why are they impressed?

      • It's a classic device.
It still looks and functions great, plus can do almost everything that the latest and greatest can.
There are also some things this phone can do that others can't (IR Blaster is a much missed feature of the latest devices).

LineageOS adds many more features that stock firmware cannot and keeps the device up-to-date. My favorite feature is instantly turning on the flashlight by holding the power button. It had no bloat and is fast.

Then again, I'm one to use my devices to extension. My previous device was an HTC HD2… I got more than 5 years out of that device. I was sad when it died.

The only two reasons I would upgrade are a more light-sensitive camera and for VR use. If these are important to you, then the S5 may not be for you.

  • Or, for something different but still similar and $60 less till middnight from Good Guys ebay.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-1091003218-Galaxy-J5…

    • J5 Prime is only 720x1280 though vs 1080p OLED on S5.

S5 can also do other tricks like 4K video recording etc.

Why not get the Moto G5?!

    $100+ cheaper

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/334797

    • Yep, this way you get a supported phone. The interface is more snappy than the bloated Samsung.

I can't believe people are recommending the $5 for older, less tech savvy people. Good luck with that.

    Still an awesome phone .
I bought an s7 as an upgrade, dropped it once after owning about 1 week and screen cracked.
I have owned s6 (short battery life, and battery cannot be swapped out, not waterproof, no expandable/removable memory card option) .
S8 I disliked the 'edge' phones and with the s8, we now have no option but to accept a model with an edge of sorts :/ Not cool.
Also edge type phone, since the screen is right on the edge, i believe they break much easier when dropped.
I have purchased another s7 after my first s7 got cracked screen after 1 week, and not any kind of really bad drop either. However my 2nd s7 has sat in its box for several months now, because im quite happy with my s5 (especially removable battery as I have 3 batteries which I charge outside of phone) .
Also, with the s7, im so worried about dropping it again, and the loss of so much money, whereas having a cheaper phone its not AS MUCH of a worry/loss .
Since my note 5, and upwards models I have used, I do notice the screen resolution makes it easier on my eyes and clearer scrolling down web pages, but thats about the only benefit from a newer phone than my s5 . Note:Im not much of a phone-photographer, so i cant comment on photo quality.

  • One happy S5 user here,.. still using it til now, since 2014.

    • only reason my S5 ended up in the spare phone draw was because the battery life was getting short due to age and genuine replacement wasn’t cheap and generic replacements seem to vary in quality.

it wasnt because of speed or features .

  • S5 battery too hot. I have to return.
