new printers generally come with starter toner ~500 pages. a new toner cartridge is ~2000 pages
Generic Toner is cheap on eBay.
I guess the golden question is - how much are replacement cartridges for these? Is the upkeep/maintenance cheap?
Around $12ea if you by 2 or 3
Laser toner for $12 each? If correct, this IS good value! (almost Broden-worthy)
Generics
Does it also scan both sides automatically too?
This one only scan one-sided - get L2740DW if you want to have duplex ADF scan.
Brother really hasn't updated their lineup in a while.
I bought a second-hand L2740DW (only difference is my one has duplex scanner functionality) - Very good and reliable printer.
Definitely recommended for people who didn't print much.
With your one, can you put a stack of papers to be scanned double-sided? Or do you have to feed them one by one?
I want to put a document on there, press a button and walk away, and it should have scanned it double sided.
yea interested to know this too. thx
The model in the deal does not support duplex scanning, but the MFC-L2740DW does support duplex scanning.
Yes it does. My one has duplex Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). The printer on this deal has ADF but only single sided
Have this little baby at home, works well and the toner is affordable (you don't replace the drum with the toner saving on costs), Brother have also been good with linux drivers in the past (if that is something you are for). That plus cloud print (and wireless scanning through linux) have me pretty happy. The only time it has given issues is when my family uses the paper drawer as a source of plain paper and they don't close it properly - then complain about it not printing!!
would recommend this printer (FWIW I got mine from the good guys too).
Sorry i dont know much about printers. I heard that if you dont use inkjet printer for a week or so, ink dries up and block nozzles. Is this the case with laser as well? And do these scan in color or black and white?
Yep, that's generally correct about inkjet (especially older models) and yes lasers avoid that problem. And, AFAIK all multi-function colour or mono printer can scan in colour.
Thanks. I bought canon MG3060 for $40 from ALDI but my daughter needs to print hardly once or twice a month so i am worried about the ink drying up. Thinking about returning it and buy a mono laser.
Sold out
Worked for me if I got it delivered.

Have a similar looking Samsung that has run out of toner and is about 2 years old. Probably easier and barely much more money to just toss it and buy this…
