  • Wow regular prices are so much compared to jb

    • What are the chances the owners will pursue those pirate copies of these old old movies ? They have been on freetoair too many times already.

The obvious question is, would it even be deemed an offense these days under Australian law (I mean realistically/in an actual case, not 'interpretively'/'in theory') to simply record something onto a USB stick via the telly, then edit out the ads on a rainy day and watch it again? Then lend that USB stick to a mate? Methinks probably not. I think the perhaps/arguably 'understandably silent' majority in Australia probably agree that after something is more than about 2 years old/has been broadcast on 'free-to-air TV', simply downloading it is not really any sort of 'moral sin'; because you could easily achieve the same outcome via your telly/a USB stick… in a manner that no court in the land would deem to be 'illegal' (in my humble opinion).

Not sure whether that's actually the obvious question here. We usually lead with what's the regular price on these deals but w/e floats your boat :D

      • Yeah I hear ya/I think I know what you mean… at the moment it's a 'highly self-regulated' (or not!) realm… It will be interesting to see how it all pans out…

I think I missed the law that states "if you think the majority of people don't think it's a moral sin it's legal".

I don't judge people who pirate - most people do. Don't try and pretend you're doing something legal though…

      • 'Don't try and pretend you're doing something legal'

As I said, I was actually referring to what would happen in a case in the unlikely event that it went to trial; what would the judge actually decide, in the context of a movie that was more than 2 years old and had been shown on free-to-air TV. I wasn't 'trying to pretend' anything. Believe me, if I want to pretend something I am perfectly capable of simply pretending it. I don't have to 'try'…

        • A rather pointless scenario given you're never going to stand before a judge for recording a film off TV and lending it to a friend…

        • @callum9999:

Which is exactly my point McCallum. Peace out.

I think if you do what you suggest with a broadcast program you would probably get away with it but I can't see anyone actually doing that ( too much work for people today )

Now if you upload / download from a torrent you're probably in breach in the unlikely event they actually track it.

I think google play is more for people on the move or who just want the ultimate convenience so different market.

I am the only one who thinks that these prices are outrageous for a digital download of movies which are damn near three DECADES old?
If they haven't made their money back off these films by now, why are we getting slugged?

    • +1

coz Mickey Mouse is still working hard for the American dream

    • They are very outrageous prices in my opinion. Most of these you can pick up for $3 somewhere on DVD. I suppose the streamed version would come in HD/UHD? Not really justification for these prices though.

    • '… why are we getting slugged?'

Quite right. And some people apparently wonder why most Australians have come to the 'moral conclusion' that it's OK to download stuff that has been broadcast on free-to-air in Australia? This is one of the reasons why.

  • Seriously $9 for breakfast club?!?

  • You can literally pick up The Breakfast Club on bluray for $10 at JB.

    • Cheaper than Amazon. US$9.99 for SD download
Movies look like going like music, with all you can eat subscription services

  • Man, that seems expensive.
Blade runner is only $6.98 ( or $5 if you buy four for 20 deal) at jb

Can't believe these are considered a bargain lol. What have we become.

  • +2

These should be 99cents or free…
