Does that mean I need to pay $500 more for 2GB VRAM + 8GB SODIMM + 1TB HDD?

      What a pretentious comment haha

No mate, just made it clear, and let others to think is it a BETTER deal.

        • Sorry my fault didn't see the OP's statement: "Better than Lenovo deal". Thought that the deal was posted and you replied with that

        • +1

This does have a bigger battery and better cooling design and look in general

    • +1

Plus an additional 1tb hard drive
However the main difference between these two would probably be build quality and cooling. From what I've heard the Lenovo runs quite hot under a gaming load, because that's not its primary purpose.

But basically, yes, you're paying $500 more for double the vram, ram, an extra hard drive and better cooling/build quality.

      • -1

        That is clear.

      • +1

Yes, cooling is a major factor as well. I've used both and that is why can tell the difference.

The thermals on the Lenovo are not very good. I own that laptop, fan noise is noticeable once you start pushing it.

I feel that $1700 for a GTX 1050 Ti is a bit too close to the price point of a GTX 1060.

There is a big difference between a GTX 1060 and 1050Ti. Past deals also suggest that GTX 1060 laptops could be around $1800 $1900 when there's a sale going on.

        For example, see

OK deal for the impatient but there will be a lot of events coming November which coincidentally we have Ozbargain Birthday event and also Black Friday deals.

        • Having not owned either, I was basing my comments off of reviews and tech specs.
But yeah, that was the conclusion I came to as well.

Oh definitely. But it's still worth noting what makes this different to the Lenovo one. to let people decide for herself whether the price difference is justified for their needs.

About 15 percent difference in games and 36 percent difference in other productivity.

I just received the Metabox Prime P650HP-G from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/330984 with GTX1060 and 16Gb upgrade (and 2 year warranty). With the eBay 18% birthday sale came just under $1700, so it certainly is quite possible to find a deal - just keep looking OzBargains way!

  • How does this compare to the Asus ROG GL553VD
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360824426187

I've worked out the specs. I just want to know people's opinions and experiences with either laptops.
POWER20UP brings the price down from $1999 to $1599.

    • Would be interested also, I have a ROG (old 4.5kg one) but I loved it, would like to update to this (plus its way lighter). Especially interested to know if they both have similar warranty.

  • one major difference I can tell is that you can take this or Lenovo one into the business environment as well. You can't do that with MSI, Gigabyte or other laptops.

    • Why? Is there a bouncer at the door checking what brand of laptop you're rocking before entering the office or meeting room?

      • +1

The same reason you wear a boring/safe coloured suit to certain meetings. Having a ThinkPad implies: I am a competent corporate drone who doesn't make waves and gets things done the conventional way.

For reference, my work laptop is a Thinkpad and I haven't put stickers on it for this reason.

        • What if youre a man of virility and power, and work in the head of a Tyrannosaurus Rex?

Does that sound like a Thinkpad office? I dont think so. Lets do pushups.

        • @Tuba: In that case I recommend using your hacked Galaxy Note X stolen from the top secret R&D lab with a time machine.

  • This link shows how often Dell does this discount:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-inspiron-15-7000-g…

My opinion is it's a little above the price bracket it should be in, and the Ti is much nicer than the 1050 but still a far cry from the 1060, which is what I would expect in a heavily discounted $1700 gaming laptop.

    how does this compare with?
    MSI GV62 15.6" FHD i7 1TB+128GB SSD 8GB GTX 1050 2GB Windows 10 Gaming Laptop @ $1319.20 on ebay
i notice the msi has usb type c but less ram smaller ssd, windows home not pro.
i suppose my question should be is this msi laptop any good?
the requirement is not competent corporate drone, just bang for buck home use.
any input on this laptop would be appreciated.

    • +1

This is a 1050ti but it's still a decent laptop. Price is about standard

      • thanks for the input

  • Does Dell not make the version with the i5 anymore? I couldn't find it on their website :(
