Interesting… Very niche though. Most places will do free shipping if any order is over a certain amount, so putting the minimum at $25 is an odd move.

    • +4

I believe it's aimed at increasing smaller purchases online where if its only say 25 dollars adding 10 dollars for postage makes it quite a bit more expensive.

    • +4

Agree, most sites have free shipping if you spend more than $100.

So I guess this makes sense if you want to regularly spend between $25 and $100. Only $6.95 per month after 1st Jan, so it's not too bad.

      • +1

Yeh, and going off the list below, most are $100+ or no free shipping, so if you use them a bit it'll be worth it.

    • This could go in the post

      • +1

Only thought of it afterwards… :/

    • The deal is also available for immediate use if youre an Aus Post employee and live in the above metro areas.

      • ……*so long as you delivery your own parcels?

      • I checked it out and was able to subscribe - it is open to joe/josephine public now

  • +3

Now if only this included Gearbest and its "Expedited shipping" option :-)

  • +1

Thanks, I actually used the previous trial. Even at a min price of $7 per month it will make it easier and cheaper when shopping online. I hope more retailers are added over time.

  • +4

SurfStitch is an interesting one, since they're in administration & possibly being wound up. Given their string of 30% off sales, it might be a good bet for future sales.

  • +2

If they managed to include Coles/Aldi/Woolies - basically make this a grocery delivery service - GOLD

    • +2

      …and Costco.

or we'll just wait for Amazon to turn up. Hopefully they'll compete with AusPost for delivery prices.

    • +1

GetWinesDirect is in…I think it is related to AussieFarmers. Could be hope yet.

It's missing out on a lot of retailers I shop more frequently from

I'd jump on it if I saw

    • Shopping Express (Futu)
    • Mwave
    • MSY
    • PCCG
    • Some supermarkets
    • The Good Guys
    • Bing Lee
    • SuperCheap Auto
    • JB HIFI
    • Officeworks
    • Uniqlo
    • Target
    • Target is included.
Officeworks will not do anything for Aust Post, they apparently view themselves as a rival parcel services company. So they won't register for any such initiatives with AP, thus you cant get their gift cards at Aus Post either anymore.

      • being the initial list, any ideas on how much this'll expand?

  • Interesting my postcode isn't considered metro for this, even though via auspost direct we are included in the flatrate metro 20kg shipping options.

    Would've used this
    Harvey Norman
    Toys are us
    Target
    Myer

    • from the short $1 trial to this 3 month thing, looks like it is building to national roll-out…makes sense for your retailers.

  • +3

include your registered email address at the checkout

that sort of kills it for me, as I make up a new email address for different websites.

  • Catch group would have been an interesting add.

Bit odd how it's linked to your e-mail rather than an address. Perhaps to compensate against people delivering to work? Means that a household can't order and get the benefit; has to be done through a person. Though it seems to mean the reverse, that a person could order things for family/friends at different locations; not sure how they'd then restrict to the area (unless the discount is also done by postcode…?)

    • yeah that's what I was thinking. but I suppose you'd all have to share the email address. I suppose being email address, the retailers have to somehow link back to the Shipster DB, so maybe they limit it to a single name too & possibly only a few addresses.

    • Yes, that's the idea behind it. A lot of people order to different addresses (home, work, parcel locker, etc), but most people have one email address.

I assume Catch Group has very little incentive to do this, as it's competition for their own Club Catch.

  • Kogan

I assume it's only stuff sent from Oz, rather then HK (or does the $20 shipping min covewr that?)

    It's an interesting model.

As people have already pointed out, most of these retailers already offer free shipping for orders over certain values. That's a key strategy in encouraging people to spend more.

This offer will probably encourage people to make more frequent and smaller purchases, but will they buy more overall?

It seems to be a strategic move to head off Amazon prior to its launch in Australia.

In fact, it is almost identical to Amazon Prime.

Expect the $6.95 per month to rise pretty quickly next year!

  • +1

bring on cheap streaming content - i would pay more for that

  • Adore beauty always has free shipping via Australia post e-parcel, not sure what the point is in including them as a participating retailer :P

    • +2

You get free express shipping with this.

      • Ah! My bad.

  • Try saying Shipster five times fast. Shipster Shipster Shitster Shitster Shitster. Now try to get that out of your head.

I would rather Aust Post focussed on actually delivering items. Two more tracked items lost this week.

  • Lol.. Paying for free shipping.

  • Generally there are discounts for early birds, but Aus Post is charging them $9.95, and dropping it to $6.95 from Jan next year !
Didn't quite get that move !

Or is it $9.95 till the end of 2017 ? Then it would make sense !

    • +3

it is $9.95 till end 17…much cheaper than $6.95

  • +1

I'm going to give it a go. The offer covers Christmas, so it will be a good test.

  • So far so good, have already recovered cost by using Myer twice. Would have been great if KMart was included!

Unlikely that I will pay $6.95/month for these retailers
