  • Do we have to activate right away after redeeming on amaysim website? The SIM will have to be delivered so presumably it can't force me to activate if I'm porting out my current number?

Wondering if I'll run into any trouble activating it 2 months after its delivered as I still have 1 more starter pack lying around.

    • I'd like to know this too! though my wait is more like 5 months.

    • Based on my experience, new numbers will be activated automatically. Porting our old numbers will not.

    • Redeem by 30Sept

I assume you have to activate it by the time of redeem. It does require you to pick a number

      • Redeeming should mean purchasing the SIM on amaysim website and use your Groupon voucher to pay. Activating the SIM is a completely different matter

    • +1

I bought the amaysim deal last night and when you redeem the coupon from groupon at the amaysim website, you have to put in the details of the number you want to port to. And this stage the deal is done and all yours. However the port doesn't happen until you received the sim and you activate it. SIM delivery time is 2-7 days, but I cant find a clear answer on how long you can hold off on the activation.

      • +1

I had tried to activate after 3 weeks of purchase. No issue.

    Thanks Firmbuttocks.

I thought the code is arsesale

    • It should have been

      • Do you want to buy arse?

        • Why how nice of you to offer!

    • No, its 'grouparse'

      • It would have been much better to be "amaysarse" or "amaysingarse"

  • WTF is Amaysim's business model?

Are consumers such stupid cows that they can be herded on to a pasture with incredibly good grass then they stay there when the grass has gone?

    • +1

      Yep.

Also see utility companies, ISPs, banks, etc. It's easier than ever to switch to a better deal for any of these, but despite that people are still just lazy.

I vaguely recall The Checkout mentioning that a large number of people are still with the banks they had since they were young (usually Commbank) and got their mortgages through them. And this is a situation where the wrong bank could cost you thousands of additional dollars a year - but people just can't be bothered!

    • +4

Sometimes the cows get greedy and try and eat the grass right up to the edge, and end up going over into the next field

    Nvm

Hate companies that use 28 days.

    • +1

Yeah but for this price, I can let it slide.

  • Wow thanks tightarse, finally going to bite the bullet on the amaysim, you even beat easternculture to a Groupon deal which is quite impressive

    • It's a race.

    • -2

      It's all good

Have no time for ozbargain and deal hunting these few weeks . Busy on a few projects 👍🏻 And working 7 days a week ATM 😔

      • +2

Yet you are still here :)

        • Yes while I'm on the train 😂😂 and occasional quick front page browse to see if any good deals

        • +3

@easternculture: mate, you still manage to be a top OzBargain poster!

Can I use this sim overseas for just receiving AUS sms ? on Aldi prepaid atm and they don't have international roaming. Thanks.

    • Maybe, unless sumting goes ron.

      • Trust me, you don't wanna go Ron, he's a beast!

        • Is there sumting ron with Ron?

        • @Scab: Nah, but he's so big I'd ron away as quickly as I could!

    • +1

Yes, you can. And you can also send international SMS/MMS for free too. Just realize this recently.

    • +2

Can confirm roaming works and receiving SMS is free.

Just did this a few weeks ago.

  • Wow just wow, at this rate they'll pay you.

    • +3

      Wow just wow

Please don't say that ever again.

    • +3

They effectively did - earlier this year with the Cashrewards deal

  • I just went on whistle out to check for plans to go onto after the 6 months and saw there is a promo for the 2gig (6 months) for $15?

    Code is 15FOR6

    I jumped on the 20+ from yesterday’s as well…

    • +1

      That’s $15 per month I believe?

    • +1

That one is $15 per month for 6 months. This is $20.40 total for 6 months.

      • Thanks for clarifying, was feeling down thinking I paid more. It’s basicaly an extension of this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/326885 and yea 15 per month for 6 months.

      • "This is $20.40 total for 6 months."
damn someone i know pay $20 per month same data same call with diff provider

  • Damn.. got one for 39$. Haven't activated yet.

    • Do they specify that you have to activate by a certain date?

      • 30th sep

        • That's the date to redeem by, in other words, make an account and put in your voucher code.
After that you've got some time to receive your sim and activate it.

        • @nimaeryk: ok. Cool. I thought once you put the code, you have to order the SIM.

  • +4

For anyone who gets this, the best way to quickly port over is as follows if your currently with Optus or an Optus reseller

    1. Order the sim using the groupon link ASAP. Put in 'Telstra' as the provider you're porting from
    2. Order a free telstra sim from telstra.com.au
    3. When both sims arrive, port your number over to telstra. WAIT until you get the text to say the port has completed, then begin the porting process with amaysim

For me it took a total of 3 hours.

    • +1

Am with Amaysim at the moment. Do I have to sign up with a new email to be counted as a new customer? Or do I just need to port out to be counted as a "new customer"?

      • +1

        Yeah new email.

Once you port out of Amaysim they continue to identify your old account by the email address and they won't let you register a new service using the old email.

Quite easy to workaround - either create a new Gmail, or if you have a Gmail already you can use + addressing: https://gmail.googleblog.com/2008/03/2-hidden-ways-to-get-mo…

    • +1

      Thanks Outlander,
Just out of curiosity, why is it better to go via Telstra?

Im with an optus reseller now, if i ported directly to amaysim .. what would be the disadvantage over going to telstra first?

      Thanks

      • telstra is the main guy in australia, i assume the process will be faster if go through them. no special disadvantages

      • It has been mentioned that optus to optus still works fine, however it takes a few days rather than hours, I think from memory because optus has to do the port manually.

      • Porting is faster between different providers. and Telstra because they offer free sim cards. But any vodaphone, telstra based providers are fine.

        • +1

Keep an eye out for SIM cards next time you have to go to the airport, too. I dropped my S.O. at Melbourne airport a couple of weeks ago, and was able to grab free SIMs from Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, and Lycamobile, all of whom have them on display so that international visitors passing by can grab and potentially sign up.

        • edit removed dupe.

    • That's super cool.

Does this work going from Amaysim -> Telstra -> Amaysim?

i.e. if I tell Amaysim my number (that is with Amaysim) is with Telstra, does their system realise?

  • Bought my 4th parking port voucher!

  • Amaysim activation dates - just spent a very confusing time on live chat.
Agent kept saying there is an additional "promotion expiry set by Groupon" that I will not be able to see until the deal is redeemed and he cannot tell me what it is, and after that expiry the renewals will not work.

Ie you can (& must) redeem the code before 30 September; you can activate whenever; but once this unknown "promotion expiry" passes you can no longer use the rest of the renewals (which start from activation date).

If anyone has redeemed the code and can tell me when their "promotion expiry" is, please let me know! (the agent said you could see it once you redeemed the code).

    • chat transcript here

    • The facebook team has a different story - they say I am fine to activate in Oct and get 6 full renewals so long as the deal is redeemed before 30 Sep and didn't know anything about an additional Groupon expiry. (Did not ask when is the latest to activate).

APPSALE does not work for me. Has anyone used it since 10am?

    • -1

I bet you're trying it on a desktop browser.

  • Yes. is it only for a smart phone app? forgive me for my ignorance

    • +1

      As per the OP :)

  • With such positive votes I assume is because of the Amaysim deal only?

  • Damn already bought last night :(

  • I was with Amaysim about 8 years ago. Would I still be a new customer?

    • Yes

      • Just asked on Groupon chat and they said im not eligible even if it was 10 years ago.

        • +1

new email address. that's all you need for this deal.

        • +1

New email, port number back into Amaysim. Lots of ozbargainers do this all the time.

        • @au-user:

My response to fb message :-) so no new email needed.

Love to help you with this one.
Yep - Groupon deal is for new customers whether its a new number service or transferring from other network :)

  • Can someone who have used these deals before, am I correct that you redeem it once and it will last for 6 x 28 days? that is I don't have to renew it every 28 days. Thanks in Advance.

    • +1

Yep! It renews automatically. It sends you an email when it renews and says its going to be 24$ and to make sure you have sufficient funds on your card but it doesnt actually charge you for as long as your 6 times renewals last

  • Code doesn't seem to be working for me either. Using mobile site.

    • via the App.

      Read OP.

      • Yeah i meant the mobile app. Not working for me. It keeps telling me to read the code rules.

        • Expired at 2 pm

  • Thanks for post OP, just bought cheap car service!

  • Although the terms and conditions say the code ends at 2PM, but it is still working for me as of 2 minutes ago (3.13PM AEST).

So still worth a try guys! Good luck!

And of course thanks TA! As per usual great posts =)

  • Bummer , I thought I could signup with a new email as im with amaysim atm. Get this error on completion. Something went wrong, please try again or contact us on Live Chat

    • Someone on the other thread kindly gave me a tip that worked, dont use voucher as the payment method.
