    FYI:

I saw the ORIGINAL Versionn (sans GOTY edition)at JBHifi in BNE yesterday for $18.98 in the "red box" specials….4 boxes over from the "PC Windows" normal version packaging at $89.

Dont know if its different, but it all seemd to be the same version.

    Check it out!!

    • Hmm.. Seems you are correct. A quick search shows that there is both the "Namco Best Of" and GOTY editions floating around for PC for around the $20 mark.

I know I'll pay an extra couple of dollars for a hard copy, thanks for the tip!

  • Absolutely brilliant game.

Also one of the best games to play in anaglyph 3D if you have some 3D glasses lying around. You can get the free anaglyph drivers here: http://www.iz3d.com/driver

  • Awesome game, and totally worth having on steam

    • Why is it worth having on steam? Is there multiplayer?

And I just noticed the DRM…Does anyone know if the hard copy has the "4 machine activation" limit? Cheers

      • Can download and install it where ever I am in the world on whatever PC I choose to install Steam on. Whats not to love. AFAIK the Steam version doesn't have activation limits

        • Well the whole "download 6GB+ to play this game" is a big downer for me. I'd rather carry the disc around in my bag if I plan on installing it somewhere else..

        • Download once and keep the backups on a flashdrive or external hdd. Not too difficult to deal with

        • Ok… But for an extra $5, I can get a copy that is already on a 'backup' media. And I potentially don't have the 4 machine limitation.

You stick to Steam, I'll stick to retail. :)

        • If there is a 4 machine limitation, I doubt it would be due to Steam, and if fact would be part of all retail copies.

The 4 machine limit would more likely be on the retail copy than the steam copy.

The DRM would definately be an Eidos issue and nothing to do with Steam. If it is still on the Steam version then it will definately be on the physical version. Gabe Newell has often spoken out against oppresive DRM controls as it is counter intuitive to legitimate software buyers and often encourages piracy instead of reducing it. Steam in itself is a DRM platform, albeit quite transparent and mostly a pleasure to use.

As an example, Securom was removed from the Steam version of Battlefield BC2 yet remains in the physical disc copy.

        • You all may want to view the info on the Steam page linked then….

          "3rd-party DRM: SecuROM™
          4 machine activation limit"

So yes, the version on Steam DOES have a limitation. It may not be Steam's doing, but it's there.

Is it as easy to crack a DRM'd copy downloaded off Steam as it is to patch an installed version from a DVD?

        • Running a crack on your disc copy will still run the risk of getting your key blacklisted on GFWL. I wouldn't recommend it either way. Just use a de-auth tool before you uninstall.

  • You can backup the game to an installation which you can save on your hard drive or burn to a DVD-R so it's not like you have to download it each time you want to install it.

Edit: ^ Beat me to it
