They fast to ship but very slow I mean really slow refunding your money if you need to cancel your order. after a couple of emails, they stop replying. I am dealing with them now and having difficulty. I have sent them emails during the week but they are not responding now. I think now I have to go through PayPal.

    • +6

That's terrible to hear, sorry about your experience. Have you tried to contact the rep on here? They seem to reply very promptly when I have messaged them. Good luck getting your money back.

      • I will send him msg as well. thanks for the link

    • Hey mate, may I know why are they refunding you after shipping please?

      • No, My item has not been shipped. I asked them to cancel my order before shipping, they said ok they will cancel it and refund my money since then no reply.

        • Thanks @imranauz

          https://shopmonk.com.au/return-exchange

After reading this, I think I will just wait for the next Motorola Australia sales.

        • Can be tricky there are lag in systems with updates so it could say not shipped but can't be retrieved as it packed and labelled in a consignment …..like getting luggage off a plane after it has been loaded.

    • +2

Please PM me with order number. Usually all cancellations are done within 24 hours of receiving the request. All cancellations requests after 5pm Friday are processed on Monday.

      • Any way this can ship to New Zealand? I always see the option on your eBay store but not here!

        • Sorry, we don't ship to other countries ATM.

        • +2

@shopmonk: Ok, thanks for getting back to me. Though I don't see why - it's shipping from Asia anyway?

        • @callum9999: Because of the GST free threshold and the shipping cost.

        • +1

@samehada: Huh? It's shipping from Singapore - there is no GST bill for them, any import charges will fall on me. I'm not sure that shipping from Singapore to New Zealand is much more than Singapore to Australia either.

        • @callum9999: NZ is not like Australia, you will be slugged with $50NZD admin fee + 15% GST for anything more than 400NZD. This will upset many buyers for the extra cost and that probably the reason why they don't ship to NZ.

You will be surprised that many ppl buy things online and have no idea about the law and they will complain once they got charged by customs. Even on ozbargain you can already found that many guys whinging about the sealed broken when buying grey imported phones.

Next thing is the shipping volume to Australia is much more than NZ so the shipping cost to Australia can be cheaper than to NZ via DPEX or Toll or whatever company they are using. So with all these hassles and NZ is also a much smaller market than Australia, they have made business decision to only sell to Australian market.

      • how come your ebay store is missing many items compared to your website?

        • That's true of a lot of stores, check TGG, JB etc etc

        • @PVA:

true, but they dont have a physical presence so you would have thought theyd be a lot better.

actually TGG is quite good with their ebay store. i recently bought a washing machine and their ebay and store price were the same and i got a to use a tgg ebay code to save a bit of money.

      • @imranauz
Mate, I haven't received PM from you- so can't help you much.

        • He might be busy.

        • PM you details.

        • @jlogic:

          I went for diner mate

        • +4

@imranauz: So you were busy… any dessert?

        • @jlogic: he first had marshmallow, then nougat now before he goes to bed he will have Oreo, any problems with that?

        • Rep can you check my PM

  • +2

Anyone knows about the warranty terms? Do we need to send the phone back to Singapore for warranty?

  • SUNSHINE,,,doodoodooo

  • This is so tempting.

Typed from my poor Nexus 5 that's about to be unemployed.

    • Nexus 5 here too…not sure if i should replace as it is still going decently strong.

      • I actually have a stash of $30 Micro SIMs that will last me until the end of 2018 so I can't upgrade my phone as much as I desperately want to.

That said, I want something similar in size to a Nexus 5 and the screen body ratio + the bigger screen makes the Moto G5 plus not as tempting.

I guess there's no real reason to upgrade for us. If it works fine now the same $277 will buy a superior phone in a year and a far superior one in 2019, 2020 etc.

        • +1

Try XiaoMi Redmi Note 4X, dial sim slot with 1x micro sim + 1x nano sim.

        • @llzzz:

          Good call, also great phone.

      • @lolcatss

How are all your Nexus 5's still going? The battery on mine was shot after about a years use, Would typically last 5hrs from a full charge. And the potato-camera, was definitely mash potato quality.

my nexus 6 on the other hand. is still hopping along after 3 years use; albeit the battery is starting to get sad and emits an audible buzz when under load.

        • I have a Nexus 5 the only way I can survive it's worn out battery is to have a charger in my car & micro USB cable on my desk at work…
Wish I had replaced the battery when I replaced the power switch.

I'm holding out until the next Pixel announcement before replacing.

  • Damn. What a price.

do note that this model does not have led notification light and compass.

led notification is a must for me.. maybe not for some.. :-)

    • Yeah why the hell did they fit the notification light and not enable it?

      • Wait what.. so there is a notification light but it's just not enabled??

Would something like that not be fixable by a custom ROM?

        • +1

Yes, you need to root the phone to enable the light. It's not multi-colour so not quite as useful as the usual notification lights.

        • @LoungeLizard:

I have same model as this from eglobal and saw a small white led light come on at top front of phone I think in first few days of use last month, but can't remember why it came on lol. Mine is not rooted, stock moto android.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: I think it comes on briefly when you plug the charger in. There are some videos on Youtube explaining it.

    • Many Motorola phones pulse the screen instead of an LED. It's called ambient notification or something like that

I thought it would drain the battery far faster, but a friend let her G4 Plus pulse all day and it had negligble battery hit

  • +2

Hi rep, please bring back Redmi Note 4x.

  • -4

I'm still waiting for a shipping notice since 5 September, you better not stuff me around or I'll be on your case. It looks like I made a big mistake shopping with these mugs. Mobileciti and these guys same thing no difference, they always have a reply and excuse for everything.

Let's see what TA has to say about this.

    • I have been waiting since September 3 and they don't respond to emails. I can understand a bit of a processing delay, but not so much ignoring emails and it seems like they no longer have a contact telephone number in Oz. Perhaps they are a "best avoid" until their processing (hopefully) catches up with their sales.

      • I sent a message to the rep on here as I was concerned it was taking so long and all he said was that I would get an email when it is shipped and I thought, no shit. I also emailed them and still waiting for a reply.

They come on here and TA gives them a plug and they just shaft you in the end. I won't be buying from these guys again.

    • Sounds like a crappy experience, but what's TA got to do with this? Not like he represents them or works for them, even. Aware that he's posted a deal or two from them but unless you suspect he might be getting a kick out of the posts, it's no different to you or me posting something up from them.

Also - my own experience - bought something from them and the item came delivered via DHL in around a week.

      • I'm not saying TA is getting kickbacks but what I am saying is that TA has to take more responsibility when posting multiple deals from certain stores and make sure he's aware of their dodgy behavior. He is well respected here and with that respect comes responsibility.

        • +2

I'm not sure I agree with you.

If you could say "responsibility", what is his responsibility exactly and who determines that it is his resopnsibility?

As far as I'm concerned, the three of us (you, me and TA) are just three ordinary members of Ozbargain. TA is a rep (employee) for Cashrewards, and therefore if there is any extra responsibility he should "bear", it would (should?) be in relation to Cashrewards.

Anything else, you could consider it a bonus. None of us on Ozbargain are obliged to post anything, and we don't owe each other anything. If you post something and get criticised for not spoon feeding information (which sometimes occurs on Ozbargain - members complaining about OP sharing little information), I would defend you in the same way I am defending TA here.

I think being aware of a merchant's shoddy behaviour is a shared responsibility on Ozbargain. It is not unusual for a member to post something from a questionable merchant only for other members to jump in and share their negative experiences and put in some negative votes to alert the rest of us to be aware.

        • +1

TA has to take more responsibility when posting multiple deals from certain stores…

What a load of horse hockey

@eneloopy.. Is that why you don't post anything, too much responsibility?

        • +5

          @nocure:

Nah, because he's too busy cursing at reps.

        • +3

          @nocure:

          You'll get a reply… In a month 😂

  • Moto G5+ 32GB/4GB for $277 or Redmi Note 4X 16GB/3GB for $155. I'm an iPhone user but thinking of giving one of these a go. Reviews look good on YT for both. Also wonder what warranty would be like for these. Moto G5+ 16GB/3GB is currently available for $328 at JB/HN.

    • For the Note 4x, is that with a global ROM ( does OTA updates ) and no mention of radio band support on their site.

      • Have no idea bud.

Keep an eye on this thread. This was the original deal before the price went up from $135 to $155 for the black one. Missed that one unfortunately rest of the colours seems to have been sold out. Still at $155 not a bad price. Just trying to decide between that and the Moto G5+ Oz stock.

      • +1

So Global ROM 8.2.10.0 according to @vjknight on that thread.

    • +2

Go for Moto G5+ 32GB/4GB, which is made by lenovo. Plus you have NFC for using your bank card, B28 for telstra 4g in some areas.

I am using it now, a very fast device and camera is way better than note 4x

      • Cheers mate :)

  • Cheers for the headsup. Just picked up 2.

  • +1

Ive had an LG G3 and loved it until it became laggy - Screen was awesome on it though. I now have an S8+. I bought the G5 plus for mum to replace her MotoG. I have to say, not very impressed with the screen on this phone - Not as bright as either of previous phones and camera is just ok. Not that good in low light. Just my opinion. If anyone interested, check one out at JBs first before committing.

  • I need a new phone, is there a reason not to buy this?

  • This or Xiaomi Mi A1?

    • +2

I have the same question - but I'm leaning toward the G5 plus, as it has NFC, B28 and doesn't sacrifice a sim slot for the SD card.

The Mi A1 has a slightly bigger screen, metal body and a better camera, if those are more important to you.

  • This is a great price, been reading reviews online about "Shopmonk" and they're not very positive.
Anyone had any experiences with them before?

    • +1

They have been great from what I've come across.

  • Thanks OP, bought one in gold for my lovely better half.

  • Does the Turbo charger have Australian plug or do they provide adapter?

    • +1

Got mine from eglobal with an adaptor, think this would be the same most likely. Great phone though, loving mine so far :-)

  • Perfect timing, wife's Nexus 5x went into bootloop of death & I hadn't unlocked the bootloader so can't reflash image. Just under a year old, but via DWI so the warranty will be a nightmare. Should stop buying grey import & here I am doing it again!

    • I'm also looking at the G5 plus as a cheap replacement as I have the exact same issue! I have a Nexus 5x and mine has also gone into a boot loop since updating to Android 8.0 a couple of days ago. I'm not sure if mine is considered a grey import, as it was purchased from the official Google store.

      • +1

If purchased from official Google AU store should get normal local warranty service I imagine ( whatever that would be lol ), as long as it's a straight forward claim within LG's or ACCC's legal time frame. Go for it and Good Luck.

        • +1

Thanks for the heads up. I just assumed it was ordered from overseas so I wouldn't be covered.

Thanks to your advice, I contacted them and they came back to me with a list of things I can try (none of which worked, but it was worth a try). I'm now waiting on them to get back to me on whether I am eligible for them to send me a new phone!

        • +1

          @ozkiwi75:

Great work. Keep on to them as from what I have read about Google ( AU and worldwide ), they have decent warranty support. Just start of punctual and specific, then if slow result from them, tactfully escalate in a controlled diplomatic manner.

Just stick to facts and don't over inform them, works for me most of the time.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Just an update: I got a speedy response from Google saying they're going to replace it! They've sent me a link to confirm my address and I'll get it in 3-5 days. Now that's service!!!! The catch is, if they check my defective phone and it turns out the issue is not actually a warranty issue (ie. cracked screen etc), they will charge me for the phone. Seems fair to me.

All I have to do is return my old defective one after I receive the new one. I don't even need to send it or pay for sending it. I just need to put all the parts in a box and a courier will come and pick it up.

Very impressed with how quick and smooth this has gone… surely something is gonna go wrong soon?! LOL

        • +1

          @ozkiwi75:

Sounds great. You must be feeling relieved and happy about this result. Have had a few warranty claims go real smooth, some not so easy. I wonder from when the warranty starts and goes till for new phone, probably from the date you purchased original LG Nexus 5X, should hopefully be 24 months for Australia

( that's possibly another challenge to get that instead of 12 months from what I read, although ACCC could back you if they think phone that quality should last two years )

Enjoy your new phone and after warranty period runs out, maybe unlock the bootloader :-)

        • +1

@ozhunter68: Good point, I'll need to read up on the warranty info. More reading to do… ugh. The fun never ends. LOL

    • +1

vrKiter, this is the official response I got from Google regarding my Nexus 5X. You might want to give it a go. You have nothing to lose.

"Thank you for contacting Google Support! It was a pleasure talking to you!
If you have trouble installing a system update on your device, the following may help.

To check for system updates or resume download of a system update:
      1. Plug your device into a power outlet or make sure its at least 50% charged.
      2. Restart your device and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
      3. Go to Settings > under "System," touch About phone (or tablet) > touch System updates > touch Check now.

If you experience issues downloading or installing a system update, wipe the cache partition:

      • If you can access the settings menu in your device:
        • Go to Settings > under "Device," touch Storage > touch Cached data > touch OK.
      • If you are not able to access the settings menu (such as when the device hangs when updating), use Recovery mode:
        1. If your device is on, hold the Power button to turn the device off.
        2. When the device turns off, press & hold the Volume Down button, and then press & hold the Power button simultaneously until the device turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow drawn around it.
        3. Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight Recovery mode.
        4. Press the Power button to start Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
        5. While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
        6. Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe cache partition" then press the Power button to select it.
        7. When the cache is cleared, press the Power button on "reboot system now."

If you still have issues downloading or installing a system update, reset your device to factory settings:
Resetting your device to factory settings will erase all local data on your device. If able, backup of your personal local data (pictures, music and video files) is recommended.

      • If you can access the settings menu in your device:
        • Go to Settings > under "Personal," touch Backup & reset > touch Factory data reset > touch Reset phone (or tablet) > enter your Pattern, PIN, or Password if prompted > touch Erase everything to confirm.
      • If you are not able to access the settings menu (such as when the device hangs when updating), use Recovery mode:
        • Follow the 7 steps above for wiping the cache partition in Recovery mode, except choose and confirm "wipe data/factory reset" on step 6.

If the issue persists please don't hesitate to reply back to this email or contact us via phone at (855) 836-3987 and We’d be more than happy to help you."

      Good luck!!

      • +1

Thanks ozkiwi75, I'd already managed to get into the recovery mode & was trying to following the complicated process outlined here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/req-help-to-u…

Managed to get some of the files copied across, but then after the phone rebooted as part of the process it suddenly went completely dead. Now it won't respond to any button presses (power + volume down or up) at all.

Now that it's completely fubar, I'm going to try the heatgun trick when I get some time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD25mdrgAys

        • Sounds serious! Good luck with that.

  • What's the delivery time to Sydney from this mob?

    • +1

I need the phone by 22/9 (going o/s) Spoke with Shopmonk Customercare b4 I buy - if purchase 12/9; despatch 15/9; ETA Sydney 19/9. They will refund if not despatched by 15/9. Will see how prompt they are.

      • Three days since order and no movement on the phone yet.. STILL PROCESSING!

        • Yep, same thing for mine.

      • Purchased on 12/9; received sydney 18/9. Amazed how quick.

    • My phone is up for delivery to Sydney metro today.

      • Just arrived! 1 week delivery time.

  • Thanks OP just bought one. LG G4 is slowly dying. So this is good enough to replace it

  • +1

Thanks OP just ordered one to replace my Moto G3.
    Let's wait and see.

    • Exactly the same for me, bought this evening, will be interesting to see how reliable they are.

      • Hi Ozbargainers,

Just an update - Placed order 12/9 evening, DHL states shipped 14/9 (from Singapore), arrived 18/9.
Everything looks good, they've popped an Australia adaptor in.

Overall a good experience with Shopmonk.

    • Phone arrived this morning.

  • Anyone knows a good call recorder for this phone? It seems most of the call recorders picking up the voice signal through microphone instead of in-line signal, hence mostly the peer's volume is mostly pessimistic.

  • Does Shopmonk have local warranty? What's the difference between warranty by Mobilecity and Shopmonk per say?

  • Got mine today. 6 days since order, not too shabby. Came with an AU charger (as well as the factory charger with UK pins).

  • Seem to be a few variants of Moto 5 plus based on country…..this one has band 28 ? ……same as Australian soldodel by Moto ?

  • Just an update on my purchase

Order placed: 17 September 2017 9:31:02 pm AEST

Received an email today at 5:43pm saying that Grey was out of stock and if they could send out Gold instead

(But Grey is still showing as available on the Shopmonk website and with 10+ available on shopmonk_australia ebay at the moment…)

    • Same thing happened to me.
I checked their website also, and saw the same thing.

      What's going on?

      I don't want Gold….

      • I sent a reply to the email I received. Hopefully there is some stock left of the Grey for us.

I was really excited to receive the phone. It's somewhat reassuring to know that there is someone else experiencing this too.
