LPT: Use the saving and get this thermostat so it doesn't burn through your wallet.

    • A $40 thermostat!? You buy heater with one for less:

This $5 fan has a thermostat control that turns element on/off.

Just set controls on this fan to lower temp & should be fine. Just limit the use as 2000W will be expensive if run for a while.

Plugging into a timer switch could be useful.

Adding a $40 thermostat if set to a high temperature will just waste $40. External thermostats are handy if heater thermostat fails, and measures temperature away from heater.

      These heaters burn through money🔥

But they have their limited uses. I put in a free one (neighbour was discarding) into elderly relative's bathroom - only switched on before & during showering etc.

Best to put on warm clothes to stay warm.

Don't need one, just leave your computer on bench, should heat up the room fairly nicely….

Modern computers (even gaming desktops) draw under 100w doing tasks like watching movies, surfing the net or word processing.

Even when I had my old overclocked 6970 and overclocked q6600 it drew ~400w when stress testing.

A computer can supplement heat, but unless you are in a tiny room with incredible insulation then a computer just won't cut it as a main heat source.

Of course in summer you can bet that 400w heat load will be felt.

      • It sounds like you need some arcade machines for warmth sir.

All of these sort of heaters really are a false economy.

    • Yep after auditing my house with a power mate from the library I realised the one heater was costing me $80 a month. now I just put on a jumper and ensure there is enough warm bedding.

      • That's it. A reverse cycle aircon is many, many times more efficient than any of these sort of heaters. Higher up front costs for sure, but worth it in the end (especially with the forever increasing power prices).

  • Still $19.99 or so at my local :(

  • Wouldn't mind one of these for the bedroom next winter - can't sleep with a fanned heater.

Thought about getting an oil fin one but this is close enough considering it's just $5 (if I can spot one at that price)

  • There's really no difference between this and an oil heater really….they both draw similar power. The oil is like an energy bank though so takes longer to heat up, but then stays warm when switched off…

  • Good first post. Excellent price.

  • $5 for landfill.

$19.50 at Castle Hill. They have lots of the small upright 2000w fan ones for $12.50.
