  • Surely these must not be good for surrounding electronic gadgets, igadget?

  • Hi Schwinn,

These units create a very fine mist which is easily disperse by flowing air. It will not cause any damage to surrounding items if use according to instruction.

  • The whole point of air con is to cool and dehumidify the air…why in the world would you want to humidify the air again!?

Having just returned from a trip to SE Asia, I don't think the Melbourne climate needs this at all….

    • Hi ironpaw,

If you spend long hours in a room with the air con on it can really dry out your skin and cause dry throat, aggravate cough conditions etc etc.
The weather here is slightly different to Asia. They have humid weather all year round and in Australia during summer the air is hot and dry so it helps to have a humidifier. During Winter the heating takes ways the moisture in the air.

Well…if melbourne constantly have such good rainny days as today don't think i'll need a humidifier.
Hope you are enjoying the rain as much as I do.

      Have a nice day

      Cheers,
      Geeko

      • hot and humid? unless you are a big fan of asia tropical weathers..

    • The whole point of air con is to cool and dehumidify the air

An air conditioner does not have to remove the humidity from the air, it depends on the unit.

why in the world would you want to humidify the air again!?

Dry air dries your skin, eyes and nose out. The water needs to be replaced so you need to drink more water in low humidity areas.

So long periods of time in low humidity areas can cause dry skin and dehydration

      • Can you give me details of an air con unit that doesn't reduce humidity? I am interested in this.

        • I have no idea, i am not an air-conditioner sales person.

But knowing how an air conditioner works i can say that when your air conditioner is on a cold setting the cold air conditioning gasses flowing through the unit condense the water present in the air which takes humidity from the air.

When the air conditioner is in hot mode there is no cold gas present in the unit to condense the moisture in the air. I know that some units will take humidity from the air in hot mode but it has to be through an added device

          • @anthony: That's ok, I didn't think you knew. Still want to know about this air conditioner in cooling mode that doesn't reduce humidity.

            • @lazed: In cooling mode any air-conditioner will reduce humidity.

You have the cooling gasses which are very cold so cause the water in the air to condense when it passes over the cold gasses which is needed to make the air cold to cool the room.

It is when you are in heating mode that there is no cold gas to condense the water and reduce humidity.

              • @anthony: No need to repeat yourself, you're the one that made the statement that certain model air conditioners don't reduce the humidity. And before you rattle off about heating again, your statement was in reply to someone commenting on air conditioners COOLING the air.

  • wrong season.

    • Hi Furyou,

Judging by the weather today and if it continues…..I have to agree with you :)

      Have a great day

      Cheers,
      Geeko
