5 Free Coffees Via Hey You

5909
HEYREVEL

I was informed that the above code works for five free coffees.

It works on existing accounts and I have tested it on two coffees in Sydney CBD.

Uncertain of expiry date and start date.

Please let me know of any adjustments.

Update from Hey You

This promotional code was not meant for general public use and was provided to a small group of people for a specific reason. The promotional code should not have been advertised for general use and Hey You has disabled it for future use.

Just uninstalled the app. Don't forget to rate them on Google Play / Apple store.

They should've honoured any codes that were already added to an account.

    • ^this.

    • +6

Why? It wasn't a public code and shouldn't have been released in the first place. It's no different than an internal staff code which is leaked to public, you can't complain when it's pulled.

      • Yeah, I dont think anyone here knows this. Everyone is still under the assumption that they advertised this code.

Also its amazing how the mods dont remove all the invalid neg votes on this deal, while theyre quick to remove them on other non deals.

        • I think the neg votes make sense.

The neg votes (at least from my interpretation) are "this is not a deal" and it really isn't a deal anymore because the code is no longer valid :)

It's just that the majority of the neggers are irrationally blaming and venting their anger against Hey You in a way that makes no sense whatsoever, but the neg itself I think is fair.

  • This reminds me of the IMB deal recently…

  • Glad I went with a large but still.
Coffee was lukewarm, I guess the app is useful in a sense but I'm not about to start using it.

  • +5

So the code was redeemed and they gave 5 free coffee's. Now they have disabled it and anyone who redeemed the code had all the coffee's disabled and taken away.

Removing it after it's been redeemed is questionable and shitty practice.

Pretty piss poor effort from Hey You. Neg'd and will probably stop using the app from now on (I was a regular before this)

These guys are W@N£€R$ they have charged me evtra on about 20 orders when i questioned it the blamed the cafe. 2 months ago they said they would investigate abd refund….. still nothing. Now this…. BAD PRACTICE!!!!

I kinda thought that this deal might have been a code that was a "dev" code or something that shouldn't have been made public. I get why people are annoyed, but you can hardly blame the business. Imagine if some code got out that gave 100s of free coffees away? OZB probably cost these guys a few grand, and now they also have the negative association of pulling the deal.

But overall, like others have said on the thread, Hey You is a pretty crappy app now. It has a bad choice of places in Melb (was pretty good in Sydney) and I preferred it when they were Beat The Q and were a much more simple proposition. Now with hidden fees and poor choice of cafes, what is the point? The venues don't use the system properly either. Once the order is confirmed they instantly send back that the order is ready, even though I am standing in store and it actually takes another 5-10 minutes for the order to come out. The customer service is also terrible, the survey for free coffee they pulled, the free coffee for adding Visa Checkout that I had to fight tooth and nail to get, other issues which I contacted them about and they were fairly rude about, it is a good idea that has been executed very poorly on a lot of levels.

    • No fees for topping up account balance, the claim about cafes not using it properly well that depends on the establishment. One place I order from does exactly as you state and sends the coffee is ready message almost immediately. All the others in the CBD that I visit use the system correctly.

You're selfish. You take but don't give. You have been here for close to 5 years and have posted no deals. Yet you're here blaming OP for sharing a bargain.

      smh

      • +3

Some people just can't be saved

      • +7

Lmao kaitok, care to share us a deal?

        • -5

How about I tell you about some junior positions in a company the seconds after they get advertised publicly and it's gonna be very soon. The pay is quite decent compared to average junior salary in Aus.

You can then tell your friends or friends of friends, or anyone you know to see if they want to go for it.

          PM me if you're interested.

        • +4

@kaitok: Not sure if that's even a deal.

The pay is quite decent compared to average junior salary in Aus.

          Nice try 7 eleven!

        • -2

@BrodenIt: no it's not a deal, it's better since it will net someone a stable income every year.

          And I'm not joking

        • +1

@kaitok: Blackmailing and $10 per hour seems pretty stable. Hmmm

        • -2

          @BrodenIt: LOL, ok ok…

    • +4

I was provided the code from a friend, who had herself received it from an email chain of 15+ people. There really is no onus on me to withold a code and I've happily shared it.

    • Lol, I wish there is a way to ban f@ggots like this. Such a disgrace to this community.

Hopefully 'Hey You' gets taken over by the Microsoft Groove team…now there's a promo done right!

  • Got two free coffees, but this has all the hallmarks of a bait and switch, combined with a viral marketing campaign.

This was cheap promotion for them; I'm sceptical that this went any other way than exactly how they were planning.

    • this has all the hallmarks of a bait and switch

Really? It was sent to a "small select group of people" (apparently ~15) so are you saying they wanted to do a bait and switch for the 15? You realise that group can just be issued a new code right?

This was never meant for the masses

combined with a viral marketing campaign.

Who from Hey You advertised this? Was this actually marketed?

This was cheap promotion for them

Agree - I do wonder how many of us that became aware of Hey You because of this will actually have a positive change in behaviour (from Hey You's point of view) from this though. Not too many I'd assume.

I'm sceptical that this went any other way than exactly how they were planning.

I think this was probably a bit of a mess for them more than anything. A whole bunch of ozbargainers (plus our non-ozbargain mates that we shared this with) probably got a bunch of free coffees.

A bunch of employees would've had to have gone and disabled the old code and issued new ones to the original group.

I don't imagine this was how they intended for this to pan out at all… if they really wanted to run a promotion, they could've definitely done it better - but my point is it was never their intention to run this promotion for such a large crowd.

      • +2

Nah mate, let's keep an open mind. This is the new marketing, and if you throw in some plausible deniability, then you can yank the promo at any time without repercussions.

Really? It was sent to a "small select group of people"

What evidence do you have of this? It would be trivially easy to have limited the code to ~15 redemptions to prevent abuse. Why wouldn't they do that?

are you saying they wanted to do a bait and switch for the 15?

No, I'm saying it was never meant for only 15; but the take-up of the offer well exceeded their expectations so they pulled it and made up some nonsense excuse.

Who from Hey You advertised this? Was this actually marketed?

The fact that it was spread by email, word-of-mouth, and sites like this is the very definition of viral marketing! There's companies that exist purely to make marketing not look like marketing and spread by your non-traditional means.

        • What evidence do you have of this?

I don't have any evidence but neither do you. At this stage we just have different beliefs about what their intentions were but neither of us have solid evidence.

It would be trivially easy to have limited the code to ~15 redemptions to prevent abuse. Why wouldn't they do that?

I agree, and this is what I think they should have done (if what they are saying is true). However, I perceive this as a mistake rather than a deliberate omission. I have a feeling you may disagree with this.

          No, I'm saying it was never meant for only 15;

Ok, but I can ask you the same question you asked me: What evidence do you have of this?

but the take-up of the offer well exceeded their expectations so they pulled it and made up some nonsense excuse.

What was their excuse? They said it wasn't meant for everyone so they've had to pull it. They didn't really give any excuse…

The fact that it was spread by email, word-of-mouth, and sites like this is the very definition of viral marketing! There's companies that exist purely to make marketing not look like marketing and spread by your non-traditional means.

I accept this, but again this is just highlighting our differences in beliefs (about what happened and what their intentions were).

        • +1

@illumination: Yeah, I've got as much evidence of you on this, I'm just a bit more sceptical of the innocence of their intentions.

Again, it would have been trivial to avoid this whole situation, but suddenly they've got probably a few thousand new subscribers that they didn't have at the beginning of the week. Whoopsie-daisy, sorry guys, that wasn't supposed to happen!

Yeah nah, it reeks of bullshit, but we can agree to disagree.

Finally remembered to make an order at the coffee shop while it's actually open and now it's been revoked. Bugger!

  • Surely the sensible thing for them to do would be to have disabled the redemption of the code, not disable the usage of the code for those who have already redeemed. This way they're not breaking any promises that they have made to existing and loyal customers. Or maybe, in some cases, now ex-customers.

Anyone know where a copy of the T & Cs might be? Might be worth lodging something with Dept of Fair Trading (yes I know this is probably not worth the time spent).

  • +1

Yup, I got to use 1. Now gone. Uninstalled and rated. And I have used the app numerous times over the years, and the app they acquired.

  • +2

Hey you this has hit you terribly! You should have honoured the ones who redeemed this successfully or limited the amount of people.
    Uninstalled for good!

  • +6

I have to say, previous OzBargainers used to much better natured, but the current breed are almost intolerable. I put the code in, got one free coffee, it then stopped working, no harm done… no need to be an ass clown about it.

    • -1

yeah maties no harm done, just ozb getting taken advantage of up to 10k subs so they can charge companies the $500 starting next month

those 20 coffees you guys redeemed that day is really gonna cost them alot.

dodgy af company with a bull story. glad for the 0.1% of you who got your coffee in those few hours, not glad for taking advantage of the other 10000 people (family members etc.) who signed up.

Mod: Comment edited, removed inflammatory/unnecessary comment.

      • +2

It's possible that you're right but in the absence of proof, I'd rather believe positive and consider it a genuine mistake where they've supplied a code to some people and it's blown up. This has happened before on OzBargain.

Accepting 1,000 or so coffees could cripple their company overnight, so it's easy to say "why don't you just honour it?" but not sure if it's that easy.

I've only previously used the app before because my local coffee place use the electronic coffee card feature, which means I get 1 in 10 coffees I buy there free. It doesn't cost me a cent extra to use it and I'm hopeless at carrying cardboard coffee cards as I usually lose them or forget to bring them.

  • -2

Yeah..if you have added the code successfully earlier than even though the code is expired, it is working .. once you add payment or payal it goes to total cost $0

  • I signed up and put the code in but didnt get a chance to claim any free coffee. Someone must have used my referral as i got an sms saying xxxx had made their first purchase and i get a free coffee. Tried to log in today and my account has been deactivated and does no exist in their system.
