You are restricted to a $10K Bike so there goes the cunning plan to get the new BMC Roadmachine SLR01. Maybe a Focus Izalco max Disc or a custom Parlee Altum Disc instead? free money like a red rag to a bull for N+1

If you need a loan to buy a bicycle, bicycles are too expensive

What about a $2.5k eBike such as the Dyson? Gets you out of the car if you're within a reasonable ride for your daily commute. Headwinds and hills and arriving sweaty are a thing of the past. No public transport cram, no tickets, car parking or fuel. Them's ya savins right there

      • Yeah, limited range etc. lengthy charge times (if you want to go a fair distance) makes it seem like not a great deal to me. Motorbikes are less expensive, get you there faster, easier to park, cheap on fuel etc.

I mean that's a better option on my opinion but I honestly can't figure out how the mechanism to make an ebike costs $2k or so (the bike can't be worth more than $500)

          @dealspider:

          Cars are also crap :-)

          Motorbikes are less expensive

Unless you pick a 50cc motorbike, aren't there annual charges for registration and 3rd-party insurance? These don't exist for e-bikes.

Also, almost all e-bike maintenance can be done at home with minimal tools and minimal skills.

E-bikes (well, pedelecs to be precise) are allowed on bike paths.

If you are an office worker, try taking your motorbike in the lift, and park it beside your desk. You'll get some strange looks from your co workers. Not to say this will be entirely absent with a pedelec, but it will be less.

I do agree with you that e-bikes are overpriced though.

Motorbikes require registration, a licence and insurance.

Also, can't ride them on the designated bike paths - that in my scenario, make it a much quicker ride. I would easily beat a motorbike that would need to stop at traffic lights (where as there is no traffic lights on the bike path).

What about a stealth bomber? (Bike)

Not a deal. This is the usual product offerings.

And it involves a direct payment to the bike shop (when I last looked at it) which seemed to rule out much negotiation as well as quality brands such as Canyon. Should be a forum topic at best.

    • +1

It is not excluding any particular brand as such. Canyon being only available through their website, would not be qualified as "bike shop within Australia only". There are so many other well-known brands available through Aussie bike shops you can choose from.

About the negotiation, it is just another loan. Just like you buying a car I guess. You might want to try another shop I believe.

  • I'm too lazy, but how does TransportMutual make profit?

    • This is what I found after quick googling.

Also this was published on Bicycle NSW facebook

On Wednesday we celebrated a great achievement with Transport Mutual Credit Union. In the last 3 years, they have approved $1 million in interest free loans for people to buy new bicycles! Lord Mayor Clover Moore attended the gathering to congratulate TMCU on behalf of the City of Sydney on a hugely successful program. Bicycle NSW thanked TMCU for their great work in supporting more people to ride good quality bikes. You can read about their achievement on this article by SydneyCycleways : http://www.sydneycycleways.net/million-dollar-milestone/

      • +1

of course Clover attended, she doesn't have a licence, a bike would be the only way she could get around… if they taxpayer didnt pay for a driver

    • +2

I don't think credit unions are out to make six billion dollar profits like the big banks

  • Any bike shops want to sell me a car?
