Do people still purchase the book? I find the app super convenient how you can see offers near you. It gets updated with new offers too.

    • +13

Book is better for sharing, so you can swap coupons with friends etc

      • +3

But the Book doesnt update with the new restaurants and you dont know if any of the restaurants have closed half way through until you look it up online. Not to mention much more convenient to have it on your phone than to lug around a kilo's worth of book..

        • +5

You do realise that you can use the app to track new restaurants and find restaurants near you even if you have the book version right?

Just seems from everyones comments that this is some amazing revelation. I was using the "online" info prior to there being a digital version of the book.

        • +1

          @Tiggrrrrr:

You do realise that you can use the app to track new restaurants and find restaurants near you even if you have the book version right?

If you want to use the vouchers, you still have to carry the book everywhere. Bad for sudden dinner dates.

        • @Ughhh:
I lot of restaurants accept the Gold Card without the voucher

        • @carlb:

Restaurants in the gold card don't even have vouchers, the card is the voucher. Lots of people want budget meals. I'm pretty sure lots of those fine dining restaurants won't let you in with flip flops.

Also, the amount of times I come across a store I want to buy from, but can't at that time because I don't have the book.

        • @Ughhh: the card is sometimes one use, they sometimes scratch off their voucher number on the back.

But they are not all outrageous priced, some just choose to use it over the voucher.
I went to a few around my area 20-30$ mains no different than the non takeaway informal restaurant vouchers.

        • @carlb: Yes, the Gold Card restaurants often don't mark the card as used either, so some of them I have been to multiple times a year getting the discount each time.

You can share a digital membership across up to 4 devices.

        • +2

loulou1 is referring to sharing physical coupons; we have an arrangement at work where those with physical books who live in the western suburbs swap coupons with those who live in the eastern suburbs. There's plenty of restaurants on the other side of town I don't plan to visit so I'm happy to swap them for restaurants closer to me and I can visit them twice in a year with my discount coupon and the swapped coupon from work.

I believe you're referring to sharing one digital membership between 4 devices but you can only use a specific coupon just once? Sure you could 'share' digital membership coupons between friends or co-workers during the working week but it's a bit harder to share it during the weekend (unless you bring your co-workers along to your family/friend dinners).

        • +2

          No only 2 devices unfortunately.

      • You can also share your membership on the app. It's brilliant. So convenient.

        • +1

Is this new? I had the digital membership last year, and couldn't simultaneously login from my wife's phone. Said only one device at a time.

        • +2

          @hashtagbargain:

Me too. AFAIK sharing is a PITA, it forces you to make one phone at a time the registered user

Pretty irritating when it's sharing with your partner.

        • @justtoreply:
Myself and my partner often use it at same time. No issues.

  • +1

How do you buy it? I cant find a link or anything

sucks to be those that purchased a copy early.

    • +1

I paid full price and have already paid my book off several times.

      • +2

i have too, but another $10 would be nice. :)

        • +7

Well if you buy another copy you get another round of vouchers you've already used, and $10!

  • +7

What happened to those free trials?

  • +10

Just find the Restaurant selection to be really limited these days. Most often are the ones that arent doing very well (hence need the discount to attract people). Ironically, there is a pretty high percentage of these that close up shop half way through the year and requiring the Entertainment book company to negotiate for more restaurants.
The Coupons are ok.. Do get money back somewhat from those but not as good as previous years anymore.

    • +3

Plus I had instances where the restaurant is still around but changed management and refused to accept the entertainment book and also where a coupon was in a section that can be used during mother's day also tried to refuse it.

      • thats pretty poor.
        i had a similar problem
the restaurant changed name but kept the same phone numbers so when i called to book i assumed it was the restaurant as got straight thru. come bill time we had to negotiate….

      • If they did that to me I would just refuse to pay.

    • +2

yeah its not as good as it used to be.
      no grilld etc.
also when some places see u coming with a voucher they dig out their old stock and waiters assume no tip.
the fish n chip place in williamstown served up the worst fish ive ever had

      • +4

You don't need to tell them until its time to pay the bill in fairness.

        • +3

Exactly, I need never mention it until I pay just because of that reason.

  • +10

Hope they run the digital one again where they give $20 iTunes gift card.

    EDIT: $30 even: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/264695

    • ✅ Upvoted in anticipation.

    • Waiting for this deal to return this year!

  • +1

So do I get woolies eGift card if I buy digital membership?

  • +1

The app is brilliant and I've got my moneys worth after only 2 months of use.

  • +3

Is this for the book only or app as well?

    • App too.

      • +1

        Cool, might reconsider buying it

  • +1

I have never bought one of these books before. What kind of offers are in it? I understand it covers alot of products/services but what kind of offers do they give? Is there discrimination when using a voucher? Ie smaller portion for food, crap car wash etc

    • +1

You can download the app to see what's on offer. The claim button won't appear until you get a login though.

    • +5

It can happen. Don't mention it until it's time to pay

  • +1

I just brought one but how do you tell that you receive the egift card. It doesn't say anything about it during the checkout process

    • +1

You will get it via email that you registered for the Entertainment Book, within 48 hours.

  • How much does the book cost?

    • Depends which book you are after, they vary in price by area they cover.

    • +1

      $70ish

  • So we actually have to buy from charities, not from our own accounts online (for this gift card offer)? Ie. no double dip on the already discounted price (on other location/editions)

    • You can buy from a number of groups. Some raise money for community groups, dance clubs, kids playgroups etc… doesn't necessarily have to be a charity. The group/individual that sells the book gets 20% towards their fundraising efforts.

      • Is there a list of groups/charities that we can buy the book from? Want to purchase one but have no idea where to start looking.

        • There's a wiki on OzBargain with a list of organisations selling them.

        • @sam-1966: Thanks so much! :)

  • +2

Would like to point out there is a specific ozbargain forum dedicated to swapping physical vouchers.
Swapped regularly with many members and never had any issues.

  • -5

Maybe I'm a bit dickish about it, I almost renewed mine until I realized when you buy the digital version, they force a credit card fee with no option to avoid it, so its not $70 as advertise, its actually $70.70.

Bs and didnt renew on principal. I thought the ACCC banned this misleading practice?

Anyways, I'd consider renewing again but can anyone confirm there is a way without paying the CC surcharge??? other than buying a physical copy…

    • +2

It's 1%. Move on with your life.

      • Actually I can't remember the surcharge rate :p
Life has been move on by not buying just saying is all

  • price in title

  • +1

Actually, I received an email from them earlier today, current member can grab them (Book or Digital) for $50.

    Father's Day Event
"As an Entertainment Member, you can buy Entertainment Books or Digital Memberships for other cities at special Member-only prices. Entertainment Memberships have something to suit every Dad – from dining to golf, pubs to footy, accommodation to gift cards, and much more - making it a great gift idea this Father's Day."

    • that's a good promotion

anyone know a way to access this offer as a new/expired member?

      • Must be a current(2017/2018) member, and I am.

      • I was "expired" member. Didn't get the offer, only got email for normal price

    • +1

So better to get a friend with membership to buy for you then get the $10 woolies gift card

    • Is there free post with this deal if you go with the book?

      • +1

Yep! Free delivery if you order before the end of the month.

        • Sorry I meant for the fathers day deal mentioned in the comment or were you referring to the fathers day deal

      • Yes it's free delivery for this promotion if you order before 31 Aug.

    • If only the offer was also applicable to Perth memberships. Would be a great deal to stack this Father's Day $50 with a $10 Wish gift card

    • +1

Bought 1 few hours ago. The digital edition. No email for this $10 eGift card. Sad :(

      • I just bought mine (digital edition) and it says

"Your Entertainment Digital Membership has been activated! As a bonus we will be sending you a $10 Woolworths eGift Card with in 48 hours, please look out in your inbox."

You need to buy the digital edition through one of the fund raiser. I click on fundraiser link provided by OP, select one of the fundraiser and purchase the digital edition via the fundraiser.

I have not received the egift card yet but I suppose I have to wait since it says "in 48 hrs".

  • Has anyone receive egift voucher via email yet?

  • If you used the member's only gift book ozbargain link for $40-50, the invoice specifically says :member only gift edition. Has anyone who got this invoice also get the $10 woollies gift card?
It seems like you have to choose a fundraiser specifically to get the $10 off(unless it is a glitch?). I tried using the 1 of the entbook fundraiser wiki page and it gives me an invoice specifically with the fundraisers name on there (rather than member-only gift edition), and the invoice is $70 vs the $50 via the members offer. On the first page, there is the banner as shown above, wherelse the member's only one doesn't.
Like ks516866 , I'm waiting for someone to purchase the member's only at $50 and get the $10 woolies gift card to confirm.

    • +1

Yes, I have just received an email with the $10 giftcard after buying an additional book at members rates yesterday.

      • Awesome thank you. Did you use the link on this page or the members rate link?

        • +1

I logged into my own Entertainment Book account and bought another book at the cheaper member's rate because I was attracted by the free postage deal at the moment. I wasn't expecting to also score the $10 Wish egift card, so it was a nice surprise! The egift card was sent a day after I bought the book.

  • Just got an email from work saying I can buy a discounted Book or Digital Book for $55 (down from $70) and I'll get a $10 Woolies gift voucher too (I think this gets emailed after purchase by the look of it). Seems I can purchase for any Book Oz Wide and has free postage 👌🏻
Should I post the link here for people or create a new post?

    • Once you buy your membership, you can purchase memberships from other regions at the discounted price. Great for travelling.

    • Could you send the link please :).

      • If you log into your account, you can purchase them that way. 'Get other memberships'. Let me know if you have any trouble.
