Hence, I'm sharing this deal with fellow OzBargainers.

The link to the pdf didn't work, 404 file not found.

You can get 2 x prescription glasses for $67.95 from http://www.ausspecs.com.au/

    • Correction made and I've also provided a direct link. Thanks for pointing this out.
The on-line deal from ausspecs is good too but you can't try out the frames first. Whereas, with Optical SS, you can walk in to a branch and take time to choose a frame carefully to make sure that it fits probably and that its shape complements your face.

low quality specs with little warranty, good comparison to ausspecs.com.au

Fully disagree. I've purchased 3 different sets from Optical SS and they've all been fantastic.

Lenses are made by Zeiss. Or made by a factory which licenses Zeiss optics.

Either way, I have not had any problems with them. Though admittedly the 3 for $179 might not have a good range of frames, I've always been satisfied with my individual purchases.

At $179 most health funds will pay for this entirely. In fact you might even be able to get Teflon coating with no out of pocket expenses.

They have a large range of 'brand names' too, not all generic frames.

      • Come to think of it, I was attracted to the store by the cardboard display that showed that they use Carl Zeiss Optics for their lenses - a good quality German brand second to Leica.

The 3 frames that I chose were of good quality and have little extra features such as spring return and wrap-around arms. Can't comment on the finished products until I have tried them on.

        • IF (and it doesn't really matter if they work for you) you really want to know, ask what brand your lenses are in each of your glasses. And also ask how much it would cost to add Teflon (or similar) coating to each of the three pairs. You might be surprised.

If they work for you, you can't ask for much better value than this price, for specs you can actually try on before buying.

Just know that all the "brands" stocked by this store are no longer officially supported by the original manufacturer - ie they are "runouts" or discontinued stock, that most retailers would no longer carry. This is not to say that they are poor quality, just that they were not popular in their first run on the market, and thus were sold by the original manufacturer to Optical Superstore for probably $5 or less per frame. Which makes sense when you realise that they are still making money on this deal, but only is worthwhile if they are seeing a gazillion people a day.

          rant over.

Non discounted specs at www.gassesonline.com.au from $59+ (depending on the model etc) regular pricing.

Or if you want to go super cheap, www.selectspecs.com have glasses from under AUD$20 (inclusive of shipping).

Ordered from both before, and only positive things to say about both places.
