With all the backlight bleed issues with the new surface pro i'm considering whether it's worth getting this instead.

Pretty sure the Surface is fanless across the line now, whereas this has had to package a fan in so that the higher thermal requirements of the CPU upgrade are met.

And honestly, if an all-day productivity 2-in-1 is your goal, and your work doesn't involve heavy multi-tasking threads or a more-dedicated GPU, you're better off waiting for the wave of Windows on ARM devices coming out at the end of the year.

An otherwise equivalent device will probably be half the price with double the battery life (this is quoted at 8 hours).

HP has done well, its a quality device but with all of these things you need to consider what you're trying to achieve.

If you need all day battery then this isn't the device for you.
If you need mobility but not all day battery and want power with value for money then this is a great option.
If you just detest the possibility of fans making noise than the SP is where its at - although that said I have been impressed with how little the fans come on with this device even when benchmarking. Although when they come on its warranted as you can feel the back is warm.

Hard to go back to my SP after using the keyboard on the HP.

  • How does this compare with the hp x360? I was looking at getting one on special for a similar price to this (eBay sales)
