  • How good is that. $300ish for a top of the line i7!

2017 processor and is used. Decent price though

      • 14" FHD only. If you are not too picky about the picture quality

        • +2

14" FHD is perfectly fine. I'm not sure what kind of eyes you've got but FHD is pretty good for screen size between 13-24".

These ex-corp laptops usually are Intel only. If you want AMD Ryzen equivalents (roughly the same year) you can get some that are priced quite similarly

AMD chips from a similar vintage tend to out perform Intel due to more physical cores. The 8xxxu are hopeless these days, even for basic browsing.

      • I think the Intel 8xxxu series might have had a slight edge on battery life. The iGPU on the AMD chips would be better though

Yes. 10 hours (extended battery) on my T490 before giving it away.

Solid machine (also able to opt for a massive battery too) except for the poor Intel 8xxxU i7 performance. Intel had monopoly and basically rebadged high clock i5 as i7.

Edit. T480, coz t490 does not have two batteries.

        • It's hard to tell because Intel made a complete hash of the 8xxxu series. It could be one of four different architectures, Kaby Lake Refresh, Coffee Lake, Cannon Lake (they released a single chip under this) and Whiskey Lake. This chip is the refresh one, which is just Kaby Lake with more cores and a slight node improvement, but it's around when Ryzen came out and Intel was caught with their pants down.

Having played around with a few older machines, I'm of the opinion that anything before Ice Lake is pretty meh. Intel cleaned a lot up with their move to that, particularly moving to a new GPU platform instead of just stuffing the UHD 620 in everything.

      • The AMD alternatives listed are Zen+ processors. I would definitely choose Skylake over that.

But these 8th gen Intel processors are almost 8 years old now…

Just to point out…..single unit stock with no indication of battery health for most of them.

OP. Even with a new battery, these laptops are on their last legs.

$350 is bit high for paper weight.

        • +1

Not if you install an operating system like FydeOS or Chrome OS Flex. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X280 I bought for $399 that I use daily as web browser, youtube and an electronic journaling/typewriter. Battery lasts around 8-9 hours.

However, on windows 10/11, it only lasts about 3-4 hours browsing and machine runs hot.

You can get a new Thinkpad battery for $40 odd though so not that big of a risk. They're also easy to find. Not sure how easy the Toshiba ones are to find though.

I mean quick search on Aliexpress $33:

        • That makes the laptop $400.

          • @Flutterby: Yes, assuming the battery is terrible enough to replace

            • @fatpotato123: The battey health is at least 80% for these laptops we are selling. So, wont recommend to replace it now unless they really want a new one.

        • Genuine imitation holy smokes battery.
