This or 39 Xiaomi cameras? :)

  • That's a pretty good price. Cheaper than MSY's 3-camera arlo pro set. One of the best completely wireless cameras out there.

  • +1

Would totally jump on this for completely wireless cameras. However, the inability to disable cloud storage holds me back.

    • +1

can it write to local storage or NAS?

      • +1

        Yes it can.

        Local Storage
Backup and save your recordings with a local USB drive backup storage option.

However, mandatory cloud storage is a big problem because it means:

        • Constant uplink, which could throttle your connection.
        • Data usage, which could be a concern for people with home internet data caps.
        • Possible privacy concerns, who knows how your videos are handled?
        • I've just installed the 4 cameras and i have a 1mbps upload cap which is not affecting the uploading of recordings. The camera only uploads a certain amount of recording which can be set from 10seconds to 300sec from what I remember.
The uploading of the footage only occurs when it detects motion so not "constant". I have only had some issues setting up the motion detecting but after some time fiddling it is quiet good. The cameras work well at night aswell, you can listen/speak through the mic and speakers and remote control the alarm which is an annoying pitched noise.
Overall pretty satisfied with the product, batteries are at 80% after 2 weeks but I did play with them for hours, triggering the 70 secs recordings and the other features.

        • @radem12:

I mght add that I personally prefer the cloud option, burglers nowdays tend to hit the power box and turn off the power, at least some footage would be upload before they break into the powerbox and shut the electricity.

        • @radem12: I'm thinking buying 2 lots and installing 1 in the lounge room and 1 in the rumpus room and 6 outdoor, On you experience, is it possible to disable the audio for indoor cameras?

        • +1

          @ashikk:
Yes you can mute mic, adjust recording times but keep in mind that anymore than 5 cameras will cost you $130 subscription per year through netgear.

        • @radem12:That's why I'm gonna buy two bundles of these so I can have 8 cameras and 2 base stations. I may need to register 1 on my name and another on my wife's name and give access to each other, if they won't allow both of them in the same name.

        • @ashikk:

          Yeah thats a good idea!

      • Upvoted so people see your post, and yes, but only the Arlo Pro can be connected to a USB Storage system :)

Wow..so expensive..better off importing the blink xt

    • -1

Price alone does not make someone better off using another product.

What does the Blink do better/different then Arlo Pro, which would make it a comparable product?

      • -1

I have both blink and arlo..and I'll say besides price is the battery life. I am not sure how often the Arlo Pro needs to be recharged, but the std Arlo battery last 2-3 mths and the type of battery are really expensive. Blink uses std AA battery..but for the claim battery life, it needs lithium batteries..but it last a lot longer before needing new batteries..
So I'll say total cost of ownership will be cheaper with the blink in the first 4 years maybe..
        From a functionality..basically the same..

    • Wow..so expensive

$980 to cover four corners is indeed expensive. we can get a eight or 16 channel 1080p cctv for that price.

  • Big killer is the batteries for these cameras. Go look at how much replacements are.

    • +2

They're li-ion rechargable. And at least they are user replaceable if you need to.

Plus if you can connect some to power you'll get spare batteries anyway as I have.

      • The previous models were not rechargable and the cameras had no power adapter connectors. They are replacement items after about 3 months
