Private Internet Access VPN $31.95USD ($41.2AUD) down from $39.95USD($51.50)

223

Standard price is USD$39.95 per 12 months, but a found a link on Google which does not require you to have had a previous account, nor does it appear to have an expiry date. No codes or coupons - the price should simply come up as USD $31.95 which is in line with other expired deals.

It is for "KHOW Radio listeners" which you are… right?

I have configured my Asus router using Merlin firmware simply by flashing it and installed the PIA VPN inside the router so all my Ipads, Phones and PC's are connected through the PIA VPN.

You can possibly flash DD-WRT firmware on your non-Asus router and then load the PIA VPN on it but the process is more difficult.

Instructions:
1. Click on link to get a PIA VPN username and password. *Pay using Paypal with linked AMEX card for more points
2aInstall software on All your devices. Finished

2b. Flash Merlin firmware on your Asus router using these instructions - http://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/
3. Install VPN software on Asus running Merlin Firmware - https://helpdesk.privateinternetaccess.com/hc/en-us/articles…
Disclaimer: flash at your own risk. took me 5 mins.
4. All devices on your WiFi are now on VPN

    Do NOT buy.

I signed up for 2 years last deal, less than a month later (but after the time allowed for a refund) support has almost completely disappeared, there was issues with IP addresses not matching up properly (program showing different IP to what you were actually given, and giving one for the wrong country) and it looks like some other businesses are now involved. All of this happened without customers being informed.

I still have 644 days left to regret my decision.

Neg is aimed at the company and service making the cost not worth it.

Hey all, we’re making some changes to the way our gateways use IP addresses so we can better serve you.

You may have noticed that the IP address your traffic comes from and the IP address used for DNS lookups is not the same – this behaviour is intended while we make these changes. All of your traffic is still going through our network and being protected by our service.

What we’re doing is looking at new IP rotation methods with the team. What’s going on here is that the gateway has a new outbound IP address that’s used for your traffic, which is why you see this new behaviour. I’m very sorry for the confusion that’s resulted in the meantime, and we’ll keep you updated as to any further changes.

      Regards,

That was after many complaints from customers asking what was going on, not before. That's why I said "All of this happened without customers being informed." rather than "All of this is happening without customers being informed." although, admittedly I should have been clearer.

The support is still all but non-existent though, so if you pay, you'd better hope everything works flawlessly.

    • I have been using them for 3 months now and it's been pretty solid here. Using it on a desktop, surface pro and my android phone.

    • Sorry to hear your experience, I purchased same deal ,however, I had a very good experience in the last 500 days, the connections are fast in general , and the IP address were changed rapidly .

Neg is totally justified. As soon as I fell out of the initial "new user support," their customer service never responded to any issues. Their guides are also over a year out of date (e.g., their openVPN setup guide), and if your pia_manager.exe screws up in ANY way, you're sht out of luck. Their ruby installer is an absolute mess, and even the new user support had no idea how it worked. BEWARE

This was the most recent automated reply to logged ticket:

Your request (########) has been received and is being reviewed by our support staff.

Our customer support is undergoing an unexpected support load so our response times will be longer than usual. We apologise for our delay in attending to your issue in time and appreciate your patience while waiting until one of our agents can get to your ticket.

+1 do not buy, pia stinks. I bought last deal through stacksocial.

Canceled within 7days, they then sent me an email saying something about not being able to refund blah blah.

It's a neg from me, having issues with speed always.

probably would put a disclaimer in there just in case someone tries to flash and doesn't succeed and is then router-less. Better yet.. probably just leave that for people to discuss/research themselves?

      • I think you're wrong there… a lot of VPN companies pedal their own software to do it for you without flashing routers or guide you though how to configure it on a particular device.. just like PIA does.

      • +1

What? Big difference between flashing & config'ing a router and installing an app. My 2yo can install & work an app. Wouldn't trust them to flash my router, let alone config it.

Choice recommend HMA who hand your details over to the police willy nilly, I wouldn't trust a single thing Choice has written about vpns

read the torrentfreak VPN list for 2017, or 2016… they do it every year and actually know what they are talking about and no one in their right mind would ever expect privacy from HideMyAss who has had people locked up after handing their log files and account details to the police

      • Who did Hidemyass sellout? EDIT: NVM googled and found the articles

Anyway I have read the TF article, its kind of bullshit because they all keep logs.

Not everyone uses VPN's for copyright infringement or other illegal activities…some people might want a fast VPN over a hollow promise not to keep logs or sell you out.

        • +1

Agreed, although i wouldn't trust Choice either.

      • +1

I agree though I would personally avoid a VPN provider that was a track record of handing over user details to police…just common sense.

    • Well Torguard are cheaper @ $us30/yr using coupon tglifetime50

But I ditched them after 9mth as their speeds went from great to ok.

Went back to an old service IBvpn which currently has a $us18.50/yr ~$au24) deal
      https://www.ibvpn.com/plans-vpn-smartdns-proxy/

  • I am currently using express VPN which is not up to the mark. Certain servers disrupt the speed up and make it difficult to browse. The best performing servers don't impress either. I need to change my VPN service. Hopefully, this can replace my old VPN provider.

    Anyone using ghostvpn??
I'm looking for a decent VPN.
I don't think I'll try PIA after reading these comments!

    • I tried cyberghost which seems pretty good. They have free app but the premium service opens up better servers.

    • naahh it is the same with everything. Some people have good or bad experiences with different VPN providers. I have been with PIA for 3 years now and it has been solid.

  • Just in time for the King in the North.

  • Worked fine for me. My old 2 year expired last week. Did not even have to load configure client , just signed in with new account id after paying for one year.

  • I've been using it for years and very happy.

  • I have had PIA for the last year with mixed results, the main reason i got it was for streaming NRL which for the most part worked great but NRL has stopped using live stream now and for torrents i can never really get it to work on my PC, will take ages to find a tracker and the then the download will be quite slow so when it came to renewal time i was not going to renew but it must have saved my paypal details and automatically drew $39.95 USD out which was annoying.

  • Thinking about getting this or this lifetime Windscribe, I'm using Windscibe in chrome and I like it a lot, but not sure if the speed will improve in Pro. I have 100/40mpbs internet speed, will this VPN decrease the speed if I set in my router?

  • What are your thoughts on Ivacy? They have a promo now, pay for 1 year, get the next year free ~ US$ 2 per mth.
    https://www.ivacy.com/buy-vpn/

  • I'm currently using PIA and don't have any issues with them… I tried Windscribe and PureVPN before but couldn't set it up properly… have windscribe and purevpn recently changed their clients, I'm hoping to give them another go (especially PureVPN) but considering I couldn't get their service to work properly I'm a little hesitant.
