AmEx Platinum Charge 120k Points on Sign up - $300 Travel Credit Annually ($1200 p.a. Annual Fee)

140

Just saw this on points hack. It's back to one of the highest bonus levels. Points for new sign ups only who have not held an amex card in the last 18 months.

$1200 p.a. annual fee
Bonus points require $1,500 minimum spend in first 3 months

If you click through the points hack link you will see that it is a 'points hack exclusive offer', but I think this may just be the 100k points base for signing up, + 20k for referral, but maybe someone with a charge card can confirm it. For your convenience, clicking this goes through a random referral from the ozbargain wiki, but obviously I don't guarantee anything until someone confirms it:

  • Nice! Need referrals link.
I am pretty sure that income requirements have shot up a lot over last couple of years though.

    • It would be good to get this confirmed from someone with this card. Otherwise, it is for now a 'points hack exclusive offer'.

    • $1200 p.a. annual fee!!
    • Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer.
    • Previous and existing bank-issued American Express companion cardholders are eligible for this offer.
    • Bonus points require $1,500 minimum spend in first 3 months
    • Charge card, not credit card - balance requires payment in full each month but with no pre-set spending limit - more about this
    • Offer ends: 31st July 2017
    • that's what I thought as well, its the card with one of the highest annual fees as well.
But then it suits business customers rather than retail consumers like us.

    • Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer.

Does that include holding a supplementary card?

    • I'd think so, unless anyone can explain otherwise.

The points on the platinum charge card is worth more depending on the FF program you're transferring to.
All the points on the charge card transfers over at a rate of 1:1, whereas the Explorer card is mostly 4:3.

Also the platinum charge card travel benefits are far superior.
EG unlimited Priority Pass lounge access for you and your guest, PLUS you get a supplementary membership for anyone you'd like, and they enjoy unlimited lounge access for them as well as their guest. So you basically have unlimited lounge acces for a travel party of 4.

I'm not sure if the complimentary Platinum Reserve card is still on offer for Platinum charge card members. If it is, you will then get another $400 travel credit for free.

I signed up a year ago and the card paid for itself in 3 months after our first holiday flying business class via Cathay Pacific. The flight itself is worth $4000, and all we paid were taxes ($170), and we still had 40k points left over.

Definitely one for actual regular travellers then. For occasional travellers attracted to the signup bonus, the Explorer or Velocity Platinum are a better idea.

@gruso: I think if you make more than 2 stop over on your trip, Platinum Charge is definitely worth it.

Plus getting those hotel upgrades were great.
We paid for the basic room at the Conrad in Macao, and got upgraded to the junior suite. The room was insane, and the service we got because of our gold membership was like out of a movie.

I have both. The travel benefits for this one are exceptional, and I travel a lot. I have the free companion Platinum Cc which adds $400 travel credit. If you don't travel much then stick with Amex Explorer.

        • I hv heard that they don't issue companion platinum reserve anymore. Is that true? Can someone please confirm?

          @maverick1:

You have to apply for it with a form they give you

        • +1

@maverick1: they dont really advertise it anymore but when you call up the concierge and ask about it they just give you a form, you fill it out and bam u got it (under goes a credit check though) but wasnt hard to get.

          TLDR
No, you can still get it

        • @tkboi: Thanks mate. Shame that existing Explorer/amex issued card holders aren't eligible for sign up bonus anymore. Hoping for a hack or success story of an existing holder in recent past!

  • Awesome
