I have a couple of these and quite like the sound. Check out the specs on the wifi streaming however as its a Qualcomm Allplay system which has limited compatibility with most audio apps.

In the end I just bought a chromecast audio dongle for each of the speakers.

  • Probably the thing to notice first is that it's compatible with DLNA, and also Spotify, because Qualcomm Allplay has hardly set the world afire.

    • But can either of those do simultaneous multi-room?
I use spotify, and it will only play in one room at a time, though it is easy to switch between rooms.

An old cheap android phone adds spotify/wifi capability to old speakers.
(discarded Windows phones do not work, as they don't run "spotify connect")

  • Kotara NSW store has marked these down further to around $35-39 (not 100% sure) to get rid of them. There was about 4 white and 1 black instock last time I checked.

If you are looking to set up multi room with these, you best avoid them. I bought a bunch from officeworks when they were $88 and ended up returning them. I found that once the speaker went to sleep from inactivity, you have to physically wake each one to play music again. If you put one on a high shelf, one upstairs, one downstairs etc. you will be running around waking them up all the time. The Qualcomm app will always loose any groups you make and so you will have to set them up over and over again. It will literally drive you crazy. The app polls the speakers on launch and is awefully slow doing this. Audio will periodically drop out from some or all speakers. When this happens and you realise, you will launch the app, it will poll all speakers and havoc will ensue until it finds and restores them. During this time you will loose your groups! If you don't realise, that speaker will go to sleep. So you will have to go wake it, re-do your groups etc. And so on and so forth.

To get these is an excersise in frustration. Best avoid and save up for a Sonos.

    • these plus a chromecast audio as someone else mentioned might be a ok option.

      • Buying a car to tow a car is not a good solution, even though it works. The blame still goes to the designers/manufacturer of the device.

        • It's not a good option if as others have now said you have to go and manually turn them on to work, but your analogy isn't really comparable.

@tryagain: Sorry my wording for my analogy wasn't good. How about this,

Buying a wireless device (chromecast audio) to drive a wireless device (speaker) is not a good solution, even though it works.

          :-)

There are two issues with this speaker

          1. Qualcomm Allplay system has limited compatibility with most audio apps, can be solved by using another wireless device (chromecast audio) driving this wireless speaker.

          2. Inactivity sleep that requires manual power on. Cannot be solved.

    • Just can't understand why the electronic designers for these wireless devices are so dumb. Can't they let the user decide if they want to save power or convenience?

I have a bluetooth Philips speaker does the same sleep and require manual turn thing, so frustrating, even sitting next to me, imagine if you place these at different places.

  • I bought the Aldi soundmax awhile back. The looked and sounded great, but I ultimately returned them because after a period of inactivity they goto sleep. When they do you have to physically turn them back on for any sound to come through which is an deal breaker.

From the comments these speakers do the same so best to avoid.

  • There was one left at Rundle St at about 2:15pm Adelaide Time.
