I have this kit. It's brilliant. I'm still not sure how best to not burn things or get stuff stuck to the pans (my set has a little frypan too), especially eggs, but really good otherwise. I think that's my fault rather than the products fault.

    • +2

For egg, you can try heat up the pan first, then oil, then egg, and lift the pan a little bit higher, because the flame is too focus and powerful for a small pan.

I thought that might be the problem, had no idea what to do for the solution. Thanks mate, I'll give it a go!

    • What kit do you have?

This looks pretty similar to the one available at Aldi on Saturday for $29.99.

Aldi has one (different brand) on sale for $29.99 as part of thier special buys starting July 8th.

Aldi's price is good, will check it out this Sat.

The differences for Aldi's and this are

    • Aldi's main pot is 950ml vs 850ml
    • Aldi's no stabiliser vs this one has a stabiliser (good for camp site that has uneven surface)
    • Aldi's has piezo ignition vs NIL
    • I'm sorry, what's the difference between a piezo ignition and an NIL ignition?

      • +3

The ALDI one has a piezo ignitor built-in, so you turn on the gas and push a button to light it. The Furno doesn't have this, so you need to use a lighter/matches/firestick etc. to get it going.

    • Shame the Aldi page doesn't say how heavy it is. It has to be at least somewhat heavier.
The smaller pan is 500ml for Aldi vs 350ml for the 360.
I assume the Aldi pots are also hard anodised aluminium but it doesn't say.

I'm contemplating between these two sets. Will try check out the Aldi one in the shop, maybe it will have more info on the box too.

The BRS 3000T (someone else mentioned it) is meant to be very popular and costs about $17 on ebay. It's a quarter of the weight of this 360 stove. It has small arm supports though and a narrower flame so not as versatile surely. I'm actually leaning to the 360 set right now vs those other options.

If you are considering the BRS-3000T, this is a very detailed review about it

        • Thanks. I had read that review - it did highlight well it's downsides/potential flaws. It does have overral very good reviews however so he may have had a dud.

Probably a decent piece of kit, but I'd never buy this stuff locally, considering they're just rebadges of Chinese products which are available much cheaper on AliExpress, etc.

As an example, my current pot (Fire Maple FMC-XK6), which I picked up for around AU$25, is rebranded by MacPac and sold at AU$70:

    http://www.fire-maple.com/en/productsinfo.aspx?pid=30
    https://www.macpac.com.au/macpac-heat-exchange-pot.html

So do some reading and buy from source, I say. :) Fire Maple is a good Chinese brand for stove and pots. The current stove favourite with the ultralight crowd seems to be BRS-3000T. There are many others.

    • How do you find the heat exchange mechanism, worthwhile?

      • Gut feeling says yes, though I've never measured boiling times or anything!

    • And if something breaks do you pay for shipping back to china?

      • And if something breaks do you pay for shipping back to china?

        Breaks? An aluminium pot?

Anyway at 1/3 the cost he could afford to chuck it out and buy another and still be ahead.

    • I've been on hikes where some people have the $2 stoves from China, and I've seen them fail (wouldn't ignite). I ended up lending them mine both times.

    • Isn't everything made in China though? Not sure this is a rebadge of anything. These stove sets are in every single Australian outdoor shop, so they must be pretty legit. What about the more expensive pocket rockets etc, are they just "rebadged" chinese products too?

That said, I'm not opposed to buying straight from China via Aliexpress etc. I've recently been researching which stove to get and that BRS 3000T was top of the list as well as this 360 stove. Still not sure which to get out of the two as this looks far more versatile (much wider stabilising arms and wider flame so will be better for bigger pots and surely better for a range of cooking (with less pot burning) beyond simply boiling water, as well as superior against wind) but the BRS is a quarter of the weight at 25 g (vs 99g). If I got the BRS I would probably buy the 360 pots on their own.

Do you have any other suggestions?

      • +1

The pot set on its own is $24.90
Effectively making the Furno stove $23
Is the small weight difference much to worry over? $17 vs $23, the stability of the slightly bigger F360 might be the difference between frustration and spilling, or not.

        • That's what I am thinking too. I can see the weight being a factor if you do lots of multi day hikes etc and mainly just boil water.

        • @Dan83:
          Whats your plan?

        • @Dan83:
One thing of note, is this is just more two cups.one larger one smaller cup.
Probably not good for frying/cooking somethingas iposed to boiling/stewing???

  • Think it's been this price since Jan.
