    Nice OP

    • +27

      Yes, the OP is nice.

      Price jacking, not so nice.

      • -1

        Is there proof?

      • -1

The truth is that eBay does not subsidise the full 20% discount, its split between the seller participating in these type of promotion, usually 50/50. That's the reason why some sellers need to increase up the price just so they don't suffer a loss after paying the exorbitant fees to eBay and PayPal.

        • +1

Even if true, the amount of price jacking in the example I gave is 1/3 difference. Half of 20% is 10%, not 33%.

        • @Tuba: To be fair, for that example, it was actually $349 on their website, but just dropped to $269. It seems they haven't reflected that on their ebay store yet. There's no price jacking there, they just haven't updated it.

My guess is that they have dropped it on their website for the same reason Officeworks drops their prices from time to time - it is to avoid having to pay such a big difference when people try to claim the price guarantee.

        • Wow so much anger from u guys, two negative votes. I'm just trying to inform people on how eBay works with these store specific specials.

I certainly don't agree with what TGG is doing, and they shouldn't participate in these specific store specials on eBay. But the reality is that eBay does make it hard for sellers and as a result the customers are the ones that lose out.

        • @awcyeung: They have MANY items on their website cheaper than on ebay, and surprise surprise the bulk of ones I've checked are ~20% cheaper on the website.

          eg. On TGG website $187

          On TGG eBay store $229

Fingers crossed. I want a new monitor.

I think it's obvious that this is as good as it gets.

  • wow $2650 for the LG 55" OLED. spent too much money already this EOFY :(

    • +146

If it was that price, I would have jumped straight on. Unfortunately, they increased the price to full RRP by the looks of things so now it's 2956 after the 20% off.

        The Bad Guys strike again!

      • +1

They're referring to the C6, last year's curved model. They're not selling because despite the better SoC than the B6, the curved screen a narrower viewing angle and it's usually not great for sport.

Unfortunately, neither the C6 or the C7 (not curved) are at a particularly interesting price. The C7 will probably drop below $2600 sometime in October/November, and it should be worth pulling the trigger on then, unless LG pulls a big technical breakthrough from their backside.

        • +3

Curved screen OLED still has around triple the viewing angle of flat screen LCD. The curve itself makes very little difference, maybe a few degrees at most. Also could you please explain how the curve would make any difference to sport? I understand having a preference of flat vs curved but that is usually to do with geometrical distortion, not viewing angle or sport. In reality LG's curve is fairly subtle and most people won't even notice it after a while.

        • +2

@Ryballs: agreed. I was in JB Hifi last night and last year's C6 curved screen blew every other led (including the top of the range Samsung and Sony's at $6k) out of the water on colours, brightness and viewing angle. It was amazing to see such a huge difference. The curve is actually really slight to.

        • @Ryballs: Geometrical distortion, such as boundary lines.

The viewing angle before image (not colour) distortion becomes an issue is reportedly diminished by about 20% compared to their flat OLED.

Here's a video that explains my other points well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPlhOW-oq9M

I recommend that guy's channel because he is continuously on-point from a general consumer and enthusiast perspective, as well as having developed an extremely dry wit about his delivery.

So if you're going to have a one couch, one TV setup with a small family, fine, but if you have a second couch and want to have mates over to watch something, it's a pain as I understand it.

        • +1

@jasswolf: Fair enough. I think saying it's bad for sport is an exaggeration though. Thanks for the link.

      • Customers are #1?
        Is that what you're saying?
        What are you saying?

    Will update shortly

I'm sure the prices will too 👆

    • +14

Prices already increased. Typical BS. Is there not a law against calling something a sale, but prices increased before hand? EU has strict laws against it

      • +14

        From ACCC website:

If a business has a policy or practice of discounting goods when not on sale and uses two-price advertising in relation to sale periods, there is a significant risk that the use of two-price advertising will involve conduct that is misleading. The business would be representing to consumers that they will make a particular saving if they purchase the item during the sale period, when this is not necessarily the case.

Similar considerations apply to the specification of dollar amount or percentage savings such as 60% off.

        • +20

          I don't get sick of saying this….

If your items have had the price jacked up then complain.

          BUT DO IT HERE:

          https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-accc/report-a…

I've done it a few times where I've been able to gather the evidence. The ACCC most definitely prioritises where more people complain, so get complaining! It's easy to do.

It takes very little time. eBay makes it easy for you to show the historical prices on "By It Now" items. Take a few screenshots and submit a complaint. This is the only way anything will be done about it. You'll need the good guys full business name and ACN

The Good Guys Discount Warehouses (Australia) Pty Ltd ACN 004880657

here is the relevant advice from the ACCC
          https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing/displaying-prices

          Two-price comparison advertising
Businesses often make comparisons between product prices being charged and:

the company's previous pricing (including 'was/now' or 'strike through' pricing or by specifying a particular dollar amount or percentage saving)
          the 'cost' or wholesale price
          the competitor's price
          the recommended retail price (RRP).
Businesses that use such statements must ensure that consumers are not misled about the savings that may be achieved.

Statements such as 'Was $150/Now $100' or '$150 Now $100' are likely to be misleading if products have not been sold at the specified 'before' or 'strike through' prices in a reasonable period immediately before the sale commences.

Such statements are also likely to be misleading if only a limited proportion of a product's sales were at the higher price in the period immediately before the sale commences. The volume or proportion of sales that may result in such statements being misleading will depend on the circumstances of each case.

The length of the period will depend on factors such as:

the type of product or market involved
the usual frequency of price changes.

        • @ChickenTalon: the main culprit is eBay.

        • @ChickenTalon:

Good advice. Just curious, what kind of response or outcome (if any) have you received form the ACCC?

        • @ChickenTalon: The accc don't actually do anything for individuals. The rare headline to keep the funding and that's it. They used to do quite a lot, but the man behind all that proactivity got the sack, he used to target the big boys which wasn't very popular in the liberal camp. You're on your own.

        • @awcyeung: I dispute this without evidence to suggest Im wrong because my experiences certainly dont fit with the idea the incentive is shared at least not always. I have purchased from Superpcreep items they have marked down themselves prior to ebay incentives, and then when the incentive is offered the Supercreep price reduces further. Suggesting to me that ebay cover it, and SCA dont jack the price to cash in. I also got full discount on a brand new clutch from a different seller too.

        • @misterhorsey: I've only ever had an acknowledgement of the complaint.

        • @poohduck:

The accc don't actually do anything for individuals.

They absolutely do. Where they recieve a lot of complaints about an issue it becomes a much higher priority for the ACCC to investigate.

They used to do quite a lot, but the man behind all that proactivity got the sack, he used to target the big boys which wasn't very popular in the liberal camp.

To be fair to the liberals, they retained the major changes to the consumer protections that were implemented in 2011. There are also some proposed strengthing of the laws coming up for debate in the next few months. like these examples

          • maximum penalties for breaches increased from $1.1m to $10m
          • multiple minor failures equal a major failure (good news for car buyers who get stuck with lemons)
          • Apply unfair contract terms protections to insurance contracts

          http://consumerlaw.gov.au/review-of-the-australian-consumer-…

Obviously it's not law yet, but the signs are looking good so far.

        • @ChickenTalon:

I did this for DSE, had screenshots of like 100 products before and after. the evidence was clear as f* day. DSE replied "yea sorry, it was a technical error. won't happen again".

          ACCC "well, ok case closed".

        • @ChickenTalon:

Yes, I wouldn't expect much more.

Although I agree with your approach. I can't imagine the ACCC think this is a particularly high priority issue. And they are likely to have few staff available to attend to it.

However, if you harnessed the hive mind of the OzBargain Community (under the leadership of ChickenTalon), to gather data about misleading advertising during these bay specials, then it could establish a case against each of these retailers making it harder for the ACCC to ignore.

Sometimes you get the result form a regulator by doing the hard yards yourself.

Although the ACCC approach would likely to be all carrot, and no stick. Due to limited resources they probably want to encourage companies to do the right thing rather than punish them for doing the wrong thing. This is largely speculation on my part. I have no experience of the ACCC specifically, but have some familiarity with some government regulators.

    • Click, but don't Collect yet.

      • oh true.. so asked them to combine shipping when i want to collect ?

    • After you order contact them and ask them what store the stock is coming from. Then contact that store directly and ask them to deliver on a set date. I did it for my fridge. Oxley store in qld was very helpful. Can't promise all stores will be though

  • Will they increase prices?
Look at an urn… hopefully not too expensive

    Great deal, TA!
I'm still holding out hope for one last eBay 20% off sitewide (minimum spend $75) promotion between now and the new financial year.
Good Guys could have been given permission to run the first major 20% off promotion before it's rolled out sitewide.

    • Or a sign that there won't be 20% sitewide.

Price jacked since the store is funding part of the discount
