Are these any good? Obviously not Bose level noise cancelling but what are they like?
Don't buy then for noise cancelling. I think these phones are made just to burn through batteries and make a light come on.
Basically no difference to not having it on.
yeah, plus they sit on the ear, not around it. Can't have effective noise cancelling with that kind of style.
$48 at officeworks

$48 also at TGG and JB Hi-Fi.

Once you factor in the shipping fee, you're not really saving that much from the current every day price at B&M store retailers.
Just picked some up from TGG today for a trip.
They sound almost like radio bandwidth without a battery. Frequency response is decent with cancelling on. And they do cancel low frequency hum. But yes, Bose is definitely $200 better.
They are OK for the price but I don't use them for noise cancelling.
can anyone recommend some good noise cancelling over ear headphones for under $50?
can anyone who provides this recommendation also recommend a ranch where I can buy a unicorn from?
There's no such thing as good noise cancelling at that price.
However, I bought some cheap Panasonic headphones on Amazon a while back. They're currently USD$30.95 + $12.45 shipping, but they were on sale at USD$21.72 shipped when I bought them. The are over ear, and take AAA batteries to power their noise-cancelling feature. That feature works, but not overly well. I have used the Bose ones at work, and tried these out at the same workplace a while later. There's simply no comparison between them. I still use them everyday at work, but didn't bother replacing the battery when it died.
I've considered doing exactly that for passive noise reduction :D
But I can't stand having those things in my ears. Gives me an earache and stuff up sinuses somehow.
Plus you look like a knob.
I have a pair of Bauhn noise-cancelling over-ear headphones I purchased from Aldi for $40. They're actually surprisingly good for the price - the noise-cancelling is quite effective (enormously better than these Sony ones, which I also happen to have) and the sound quality is quite acceptable for this price range.
They're nowhere near the quality or fidelity of Bose QC35's but they're much better than I expected and I'm very happy with them.
Here's the deal, if you're interested - sadly they appear to only be a one-off.
