Crazy good lens, best in class

    • yep this lens rocks. i paid $1300 a while back now which was a damn good deal anyway and at that above price point total steal. lens is amazing

  • I thought cash rewards had updated its policy and doesn't work with price match anymore?

    • Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts.

      and cashrewards tracked $130 cashback.

Also, tracking does not guarantee it will be approved.

      • Exactly - getting excited over tracking (and posting it to your socials lol) is essentially counting your chickens before they hatch. Rookie mistake.

  • Looking forward to the updated focus motors once they release the new MK II

    • +2

it already has the later focus motors wont be a MKII for a long time i dont think. focus is fine. super fast for me

  • Any good deals on a camera to go with it?

    • Lol

        Yep, bit late I think

  • Would you recommend this for indoor evening party photography?

      I recommend the 24-70mm 2.8g lens and forget anything else. It’s a beast/workhorse.

It’s pretty much the only lens I use for events as a semi pro.

For really special cases I use the 85mm 1.4g but that’s overkill and only worth it if you make money.

This lens is very very wide and not really for events if you ask me. You want flexibility and a bit of zoom.

I work professionally and whilst a zoom is more versatile, I would much rather have the extra subject isolation that this lens has over a zoom. A fast prime opens up narrative potential in your images by allowing you to guide and create depth through a shallow depth of field, even with a wide angle lens. It’s a great look. You’ll also get an extra 2 stops of light which can be incredible in low light situations.

This said, it is wide lens which is more limiting, and for a first lens, a zoom is more useful. When I’m shooting on the 24mm at events, I likely have another body with a 50 or an 85 too, so it’s all balanced out. (The photos really do pop though so it’s worth it for me)

  • I have this lens and that is a good price after the Cashrewards and Sony cashback! I have not had issues with tracking via Cashrewards for price matched lenses in the past. I had an issue with tracking for a teleconverter though :(

  • Super lens really at a great price.

Cashreward will likely not go through if price matched as they got quite strict.

Now, I'm waiting for a MKII on the 90mm macro please, Sony.
