Haha, I don't know what to say about that one.

        • @WatchNerd: Nor did I! Strange design which will appeal to some, but their price for that model is currently unbeatable.

  • Does this plan include data roll over?

    • +3

It's 42GB for the whole year, there are no monthly boundaries.

      • In other words yes.

  • Can anyone thats used this before tell me - when you apply the coupon does it overwrite a package thats already running or just start from the end of the current pack? My Renewal is on like the 25th and the packs wont be in store till the 28th. Seems like a waste for only 3 days use.

    • +1

IIRC it takes effect immediately. But you don't have to activate it for another year, so what's the problem, wait until next 25th.

      • Hah I totally read the activate by date wrong. Thanks for pointing out the obvious - need more coffee :/

        • Cann nnever hhave too mmuchh ccofffee.

    • yes-overrides. YOu have a whole year to activate this one.. 2018!!!! so use up your other package before you add this one to your phone.

Comparing the deals with Kogan and Lebara, I think this one doesn't stack up.

Lebara offers international calls whereas ALDI offers international roaming (Credit not included but can be topped up)
International rates are also expensive on Aldi network

If Lebara could offer international roaming, would be excellent. (I don't intend to call around but more on the SMS password received for banking and other transactions)

Kogan also doesn't offer international calls.

    • Where's the deal from Lebara? Plus they use Vodafone not Telstra…

    • Kogan also doesn't offer international calls

That's what eTalk cards are for. 1 cent per minute, no probs.

    • -2

OP doesn't mention roaming but Kogan is far better on current discounted 1 year offer.
Pity Kogan doesnt offer roaming but given they use Vodafone it would be an excellent add-on. Maybe soon.

  • "Only available from ALID stores from 28th June 2017."

going to be tough to find a misspelled ALDI store…

Wife's complaining about her Voda coverage via Kogan, compared to what she had previously via Telechoice, so looks like a move to AldiMobile is a good deal

  • Can you port numbers?

    • +1

From another provider? Sure, standard with activation.

      • Thanks

        • It's easy to port your number across when setting up. It'll ask whether you would like a new number or to port. It says to allow 4-48 hours.

        • great, thanks

Note: The last time this was offered instore it was sold out in most stores within an hour.

The nice thing about this offer is you have until 30th June 2018 to use the voucher.
You could get two and have one to use when the first runs out.
If already on this plan you could get one to extend it for another year.

If they also make it a limited time offer online again you don't get the same flexibility.

It would be great if they added it, but currently there isn't an option to recharge and stay on this plan at the end of the 365 days.

Of course there could be something even better down the track.

Don't expect Telstra VoLTE or VoWiFi to work on Telstra Wholesale (AldiMobile) for quite some time. Hope I'm wrong about this :)

Aldi customers go blindly into many Aldi offers that are not really that great at all. Good marketing by Aldi. But always need to do your research with them.

  • Can someone tell me how aldi or amaysim or lebara were able to offer deals so cheap compared to telstra, vodafone or optus. That too while using their network. Do people on aldo or amaysim receive poorer quality network or something?

    • Yes, see my comment below

    • -1

Depends on what is negotiated. Aldi use Telstra's OLD cut down wholesale network so its not really a good deal at all.
See in their coverage page:" ALDImobile uses PART of Telstra’s 4G and 3G mobile network"

  • Beware, in Melbourne around inner city on the train I can't get any data during peak times. Kogan and lebara were better

  • Also finding vodafone better than telstra in newcastle. how times have changed.

    • unless you travel to Kooragang Island area ;)

    • -1

Vodafone now the #2 network after major upgrade. Telstra better MAYBE in some country areas but Vodafone better in others

  • Nowadays whenever I port my number, i am having trouble.
Recently i switched to Optus and lost my service for 1 day and switched back to amaysim and lost again 1 day.

    • +1

Optus <-> Optus MVNO is known to problematic

    • Halarious! Optus and Amaysim are the same network. Shouldnt be any issues.

      • Shouldn't, but does. It's a problem with Optus porting infrastructure.

Now I do not know what to do…
I have the $1.00 Kogan sim for 30 day of unlimited calls 14 GB data at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/312804, AND I have to IT use by 15/8/17

    THEN
I still have $15.00 pay as you go credit on my Aldi sim, I love my phone number so do not want to give it up.

And now this deal which I have a year to make use of or CAN TRY THE the Kogan one AT https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/307785 or the other Kogan for 205.00 for 5 GB data and unlimited phone on their web site???

What to do? how to decide in such a short time??? I am too girly, I think too much, study too much and take way to long to make decisions.?? HELP!

    • the kogan 5gb one is better value in terms of data and price per month/30 days.

even better when you use discount giftcards and a referral to buy it ;)

      • I took kogans deal… WHat a big big mistake. Network coverage was spotty at best when driving around locally and lord help me if I went 20km inland to the country. I had to request my money back. Thankfully I got it but… I did miss out on this deal.

I did look at my local Aldi on the 28th but they had none out in the store to my knowledge. Wondering if the staff were grabbing them up or they were hidden?

So I missed out this time… Maybe the next will be my time.

        • My Kogan has been fine here in Sydney. Same as TPG really.

    • First world problem.

    • -2

VERY SIMPLE: You got till end of July to get the Kogan 12 month deal. So use the Kogan $1 deal NOW and then recharge to the discounted 12 month deal before 30 July

      • How do I work in my 12.00 Aldi credit on my current phone and the desire to port my number too? Do I lose $12.00?

  • Hi I'm tempted to get this but was wondering how much I'll need to deposit with them to activate International Roaming? Also do I need to be a customer for a certain period before I'm allowed to activate International Roaming?

    • +1

You can activate International Roaming yourself any time.

      https://www.aldimobile.com.au/roaming/

However you need PAYG credit to use roaming. Receiving SMSes is free.

      • Thanks mate! Sounds like an easy thing to setup.

The PAYG credit doesn't mess up the 1 Year Super Pack right? The PAYG credit will only get used when I go roaming? Any minimum in order to activate International Roaming?

        • +1

Minimum is probably the lowest top up you can buy, $5 or $10. But roaming is crazy expensive so better to use a local SIM or leech off WiFi. PAYG credit is used for those things that the plan doesn't cover: roaming, international calls, premium calls, etc.

        • @greenpossum: Thanks for the detailed response! I need roaming for my business

    • -2

Forget it. Aldi's Roaming charges are horrendous! They START from $1/min to both make and receive a call and SMS start from 50c. Better off using Vodafone @ $5/day if you plan to travel

  • If I'm a new customer I'll need to buy the $5 SIM starter pack right?

    • +1

The pack includes a SIM. Good luck fighting off the hordes.

      • lol really? Do I need to start queuing up before the store opens?

      • I couldn't find anything on their website about the pack including a SIM. Only seems to reference a voucher.

Are you going off the previous deal?

edit: NVM! Found it in the CIS:
        https://www.aldimobile.com.au/m3/docs/critical_information_s…
        The plan includes an ALDImobile
SIM card (in case you do not already have one).

    • -5

Kogan SIMs are FREE to buy and get delivered and much better deals too. Forget this sub-standard Aldi crap. Its the blind leading the blind.

      • I suggest checking the different networks' coverage maps as a starting point. I guess more so if you're out in regional. Ive had no luck w Voda or Optus networks.

  • Anyone know if you can buy this and keep it unactivated for say 6 months? I ask as Im on a contract with telstra till january.

    • +1

It's on the page: "Make sure you use the voucher code that is inside the pack by 30th June 2018."

      • Sweet. Thanks mate.

    • -4

Dont commit now. Waste of money. And if you loose your voucher…??? Plenty of good deals coming up all the time. Kogan will be running their discounted 1 year offers again by then. The Aldi deal is absolutely crap anyway. Do your comparisons!

      • Yeh I held off. Honest didnt know about the kogan deals. Im skeptical still of vodafone..

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice…

  • Score.

  • Still quite a few available at Broadway ALDI. The cashier didn't really seem to even know what I was asking for, so maybe less demand this time around…

  • Plenty at Aldi Rockdale

  • -6

Kogan is the much better deal! As already posted here. Discounted 12 month deals good till end of July.

    • But horrible network coverage .. Ill rather have better network than cheap plan that I can barely use sometimes..

      • YEP horrible network coverage.. I gave Kogan a go and it failed miserably.

  • Can you call forward on this plan?

  • Does anyone know if any store in the ACT still has stock? I went to Tuggernong store last night and was told they ran out from the morning.

    Thanks.

    • Queanbeyan store had stock yesterday.

It seems not many people can afford $249 in Queanbeyan.

  • Fyi plenty still at Kogarah

  • Anyone having issues with getting tethering to work? My laptop says no internet.

  • +2

My comment is kind of off the topic but I think Aldi offer me one of the best value IoT data plan (M2M) - just grab a $5 starter kit.

My IoT device consumes around ~500KB at most everyday. $5 long expiry credit should last at least 6 months (or longer).
Unfortunately, my device cannot use any of the 3G network other than 850MHz - Voda and Optus are eliminated due to this reason.

  • Are Aldi afraid this deal will be too popular? I'm trying to figure out why it isn't a standard deal, available at any time, online.

  • I don't know if this helps anyone but there is one of these packs still in the cabinet at the Greensborough VIC store as of this morning.

  • You can get 15 gb per month (180 gb) for $480 from Optus for 12 months at the moment, which is a good alternative to this.

  • Did anyone actually buy one in the stores on the 28th? Seems that no one posted that they actually purchased one?
