  • Thanks! Bought the speakers!

Now to decide whether to use them on the computer or TV…?

    • +2

If your room for your computer is small, I reckon it's a bit of a waste using a reasonably powerful 5.1 system for the comp. Also, if you don't have surround speakers for your TV already, then I really recommend you use them with the TV.

      • It is reasonably small - am using z623s at the moment and a sony sound bar for the TV.

Will definitely take your advice on board and use it on the tv.

My only concern now is that I am only able to set it up like this:
        https://assets.logitech.com/assets/54716/z906-gallery.jpg

Which isn't going to reap the benefits of 5.1 as much I assume :(

        • +1

Yeah, that's a pretty ineffective set up for a 5.1 system. It might be equivalent to your soundbar, depending on how powerful it is and whether or not you already have a subwoofer.

One thing though, being a speaker system, it would be easy to set up and experiment (if you have a bit of time) with connections to your computer and TV and seeing where you'd be happy with it most.

        • Can't run a cable around the bottom of the wall or similar?

        • @rochow:

Will give it a go! doesn't seem like there is a clean way to do that I can think of for my environment however

        • If you have carpet easy to hide under the edges. If tiles, we actually taped our cable with white tape, and then used these little hook things from Bunnings to hammer it to the skirting board: https://2ecffd01e1ab3e9383f0-07db7b9624bbdf022e3b5395236d5cf…

Makes it look nice and neat for cheap.

        • @rochow:

          Unfortunately am on floorboards!

        • @SevenSmurfs:

You can use products like these to hide cables that run along the ground. Heaps of other brands/products out there depending on what you are after.

        • @ytumer:

That's a good idea! Will try routing it under the rug to see how it looks first and then do the floor trim way! Thanks

I've always gotten more use out of my z680's with my TV's over the years rather than PCs. I always favoured Z623's (on sale at Harvey Norman ATM as per other post) with my computers, or better yet, a good comfy pair of headphones/earphones. Depends on your setup though!

    • I'd use the 5.1 speakers on the source that outputs in 5.1 most often. So if you mostly use PC for 5.1 gaming and the TV for 2.0 TV shows, the PC would be the logical choice for 5.1 speakers. Whereas if you predominantly use your PC to listen to music and use your TV to watch blurays, you'd get more benefit connecting 5.1 speakers to the TV.

Brought the speakers to literally re-sell most likely, amazing price for the 'z5500 replacements', though, I do still use my decade old z5500's as a daily driver with a third party sub :) you see this updated model (with less bass, smaller bass driver and air-ports, etc) everywhere for 350-400$+ on most days.. so a good investment no matter the use!

Look man, hes just going for that sweet 10.2 sound.

        • +1

          15.3 is where its at!

    • +2

Brought the speakers to literally re-sell…

Where did you take them to sell them?

    • So the Logitech Z906 is not an upgrade on the z5500?
I have the z5500 and am looking for an upgrade.

      • +1

Not really, most people still prefer the z5500s over the z906. I still use my z5500s.

Look on gumtree for a decent receiver and speaker set. I just picked up a yamaha 7.1 receiver, 2 floor standers, and two bookshelves for $300.

  • Nice price

  • No moto g5 match?

  • Give the man a round of applause. Trent has found some bargains!

  • +1

Cable management for this speaker will be a pain.

    • +1

You weren't kidding… man they gave extra long wiring which looks an absolute mess!.
Will spend some time doing some cable management on the weekend!

Need to get them velcro cable management stuff…

    Out of stock speaker!

    • +1

"Please enter a quantity of 0 or less"

They don't just say out of stock anymore?!

      • +1

        Did you try -1 ?

Don't criticise something till you try it : )

        • This must be how that guy in the comment above plans to resell his.

  • +2

Prob been Broden'd at that price.

  • +1

Should I go with these speakers or bookshelf speakers?

    • Logitech speakers are cheap, and decently loud, but they aren't all that good.

  • Looks like they only had 8 in stock today.

  • +1

More stock has been added guys, i just bought one!

    Thanks OP!

    • Pulled the pin and got one.

  • I use these speakers and do recommend, some people don't find them as bass heavy as prev model but i digg'em

  • Yo! I've got these speakers but my sub blew and it would apparently cost me $500 to fix it =/

If anyone has a z906 sub lying around lemme know!

    • +1

Just buy this deal, not only do you replace your sub, but you get a spare for everything else as well.

    • If you are replacing your system, can I buy your old remote? Mine is not working anymore :(

  • Have used these speakers for years as my home theatre, still working and v happy with the purchase think I paid like $300 with good ol dicks

  • +1

This vs Yamaha YHT-1810 $375. Would the Yamaha system have significantly better audio quality?
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/yamah…

    • +1

Significantly? No.The difference is they are trying to be big speakers where the logitech's embrace their mid level speaker branding. Up loud you'll notice the most difference. There's no way those Yamaha's have the true RMS they claim. (But such is the speaker world I guess)

Personally since you've linked a deal with a giant-fkoff amp, I assume you want speakers for home theatre? If you have the space look into getting some Floor Speakers (towers) - That will help you stay in a budget aswell, you can buy them and possibly a mid-range amp and add some satellites later on.

  • Picked up the A7 yesterday at the 593 price. Nice enough phone, replaced my redmi note 3 pro for work.

    • +1

Please let me know how is it :)

      • +1

@TRENT86 Couple days in now, very happy with it and a more than adequate replacement for the RN3P (that I adored, BTW).

It's snappy, very comfortable in the hand (slightly rounded glass/edges), I'm finding the Samsung skin to be great and unintrusive with excellent handling of notifications and various other facets of the UI. Battery has been excellent, too. At the end of a busy day it only just dipped into the 40%s, which is only fractionally 'worse' than the RN3P.

The only negatives I'd point out for now are that the camera is bad in anything but good light, or outdoors. But under any kind of artificial light, it's garbage (blurry, slow to respond, ISO seems to jump to a million in Auto), miles worse than the iPhone SE, for example.

Second is that it is still only running Android 6, though from my googling around prior to purchase it appears that Nougat has been rolled out in Russia and a few other areas for the phone, so I expect it sooner rather than later here in Aus.

        • Thanks heaps for the info :) How is the screen? and do you think you could tweak the camera in time to make it better? :)

        • +1

@TRENT86: No worries. The screen is terrific, with seemingly better appearance than the RN3P. Not sure if it's contrast, or colours or what. Pretty solid under sunlight, not that we've had much of that this last week :/

The camera does have a 'pro' mode, that surfaces all the settings you might expect - ISO, shutter speed etc. and that alleviates a few of the issues, but not all of them. For some goofy reason, there are almost no options for video (as in, not even a basic 720p slow-mo, which was a mode I regularly used on the Redmi). In good conditions the camera is better than the Redmi (and the app itself is quick to launch, which is good), but in every other condition - and especially video - it's either not an improvement or maybe even worse.

I haven't bothered to look into third party apps etc, I reckon you could strike gold there though. The lens hardware seems pretty good being f/1.9, but the software and chipset hardware that runs the camera is the weak link. Nougat could very well improve that.

But there is a clear gap between this and any flagship you've ever played with (Huawei Mate 9 and S8 both spring to mind - I was super-impressed by the Mate 9 dual lens camera).

NFC and B28 are both awesome, though. Constant 4G reception in regional NSW compared to the Redmi, where even 3G was hit and miss (Optus).

        • @LaTerrible: Ok cool, again appreciate you comments dude :)

  • been waiting for quite a while now for the price of these Logitech speakers to drop. Now someone's posted a deal just yesterday evening and it's already sold out! bummer!

  • Are the speakers coming back in stock? Happy to wait otherwise I'll grab them from HN

    • They seem to come back in stock intermittently.

  • I do not need these at all but I want those speakers. Already have some lovely Yamaha HS7 monitors.
