Awesome set of cans. Beware, though, it might ruin you if you're used to cheap (or not so cheap) headphones. Can't go back after these. Note however that they are open, so perhaps not best suited for work.

    • +1

any idea how these compare to a beyerdynamic dt880?

      • +1

I prefer the Fidelio X2, in comparison to the DT880, and in every aspect;(note that headphones in this price-range are mostly different, not better). Yes, headphones are usually a matter of taste, however, I haven't met anyone who has tasted/tested the Fidelio X2 and not loved it. For this price, it's a no-brainer. Here's a review from someone who compares headphones on a daily basis, mind you the video is slightly old and before he expanded, but the points he raises still stand in this price range.

        https://youtu.be/_y2ZZxcBZ88

My advice, go for it, you will not regret purchasing this set.

        • Thanks! will definitely get one!

  • +3

Got a pair of these from the last sale. Worth every penny.
For reference, I own HD600, AD900x and M50x; and the X2 is my favorite at the moment.

    • How these compare to M50x (I know there is $100 difference between them before this discount)?

      • +1

First off, two BIG advantages of the X2 over the M50x : Much more open sounding and tremendously more comfortable….These alone seal away the choice, no contest for the M50x.

Build quality is also sturdier on the X2 btw, the outer rings, grills on the cups, and skeleton band are made of metal compare to the all-plastic and already tank-like M50x.
Bass is slightly stronger on the X2 but it is also deeper and accentuated, which I think music sound more fun though them.
Treble and Mid are a bit hard to compare since they share the same characteristics with the M50x, given that both possess V-shape sound(elevated treble and bass). In other words, you will also get bright treble (can be peaky for some people) and recessed midrange on the X2. One thing I can say for sure is that the midrange on the X2 is colorless, unlike the slightly distorted midrange of the other cans.

I originally bought the AD900x to replace the M50x due to poor soundstage of the latter, at the cost of bass quantity. The X2 is sort of like a hybrid of these together so it ticks all of the boxes for me :).
Honestly, if the M50x is already your favorite headphones, at this price the X2 is a no-brainer.

I go these last deal, and.. WOW

so much soundstage, (almost too much with some songs, making it harder to enjoy the 'whole' as opposed to the individual sound elements that these cans bring your focus to) However, plugging it into my denon CD player headphone output, its all one big beautiful, highly detailed, coherent musical experience.

These made me promptly put my sennheiser 770 pros on eBay as they sound muffled and simplistic compared to the x2.

As far as sound characteristics for these, I find the bass not as pronounced (more neutral) in the X2s and often put he bass up on the source. The bass that is there, is highly refined and detailed, just needs a bit of help to shine and give you that 'wow' feeling.

These are not light by any means, you can feel the weight, but the design makes wearing these super comfortable

Finally these are very sensitive headphones, so you can drive them with your phone (if you are desperate) although you will get a slightly better bass experience using something with more grunt to power them.

    • I have found the mid is noticeably recess where most of the vocal is happening. The transient is slow, and when there is fast music the notes run into each other and sounds messy. It is also heavy and fatiguing to wear. Other than that they are good.

  • +1

Do they recommend amping these, or can we run these straight off a PC or mobile phone?

    • You don't need an amp with these cans, but it's always preferred. 30 Ohm impedance is extremely easy to drive, even with a phone.

    • I found they sound better without an amp. Amping these actually seems to increase the sibilance slightly.

      • +1

i found sibilance very amp dependent, amps with upped gain have significantly more.

  • +1

I have the Sennheiser Momentum 2 over ears.
    Any reasons to get these?
(I know these are open versus close)

    • My friend owns both, and always uses the Fidelio X2 indoor (in his house), and the Momentums Over-Ear 2.0 Wired when he leaves the house. There's no better between them, they're different, and he loves that they're different, and yes, he prefers the X2 (but it's not for outdoor usage).

      • Unless you need an ear warmer :)

        • Not for inside!

  • How do people find these cans for FPS gaming (hearing footsteps etc)? Is there too much bass?

    • definitely not too much bass. i find them great for fps gaming

    • They do have lots of bass but it doesn't overshadow footsteps sounds or anything, sound amazing for battlefield etc. Won't give you the super human audio wallhacks that some very bright cans can.

  • Snap, just bought.

    Had and sold
DT990's (250 ohm) … too much clamp pressure and hard to drive, great sound though.
M50x … sound fantastic (ear cups slightly to small), hot to wear

    Currently have
Momentum 2 over ears (ear cup still slightly to small for me, have to carefully position), great sound, perfect for the office.
Q701s, great for gaming, difficult to drive (need external amp), great soundstage, flat
HD598, also good for gaming, nice sound, more bass than Q701s but more neutral than M50x, M2

  • Why do they always give super long cables?

Also, no carry case for these x2.

    • The cable actually pisses me off. Yeah, it's really nice quality. But it tangles itself too easily.

      • I notice you can also hear it rubbing on clothes when you have the cans on.

    • You can buy headphone cases for 10 bucks or whatever on eBay or Amazon.

      • Will there be any quality loss if you buy cheap cables?

    • Cable can be replaced with any 3.5mm jack cable so easy to get a shorter one if you want. I find The long cable is great for sitting on the couch.

      • If I'm on the couch I only do wireless. Long cable is going to be a tripping hazard, especially if you have kids. Also, 3m is not long enough for most living rooms. Too long for standard use. It's in that dead zone where it's too long and not long enough.

  • +1

I remember when these were $200 on a price error.. The orders were cancelled. That was a sad day.

    Thanks OP!

    • +1

Yes, but we got a voucher.

      • Should have ordered 10 then.

        • But then you might end up with 10 hps :-)

  • How do these compare to the X1? much difference?

    • I havent heard the X2, but apparently they have less bass, and more balanced. There is a review on innerfidelity that compares them, saying the X2 is much improved.

Personally I'm a basshead, so I'm happy to stick with my X1. But for non bassheads, the X2 is surely better.

      Great headphones!

      • X1 has a nicer box though :p

  • Bought! Will be my new computer headset paired with fiio e17 (keeping an eye out for the next massdrop teac ai101 deal). Now need a mic..

  • Any recommendations for amps to pair with these?

    • No real need for an amp (only 32ohm impedance), In fact in my experience adding an amp slightly increased the sibilance.

  • +2

I own a pair of these. Absolutely love everything about them.

Was the top pick among a whole bunch of headphones as I spent over 3 hours at e-earphones (massive audio store in Japan).

Have used these for an 14 hour flight with my wife next to me. I've even had the impunity to try them at work. :) Appears that if the environment is moderately noisy (e.g. normal office) then the sound leakage will be minimal.

For folks looking for a case for these, check the following out:

Thanks for the heads up on the case.

    • +1

I recommend the Casebudi XL. A bit more expensive, but fits even more perfectly! :P
      http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2evc08j&s=8#.WTymutVuK-o

Flimsier handle on the Casebudi though - it's just a loop strap.

    • Surely you'd have to turn the volume up quite high on the plane? Whats it like compared to any closed headphone you have?

      • Actually I did not have to. When I had a comfortable volume set (I was watching movies on the in-flight entertainment system), my wife who was sitting next to me could hear the audio very faintly.

I could barely hear the plane over the sound of the movies as even though it is open, there is a degree of isolation.

My only other close headphones are the M50 and the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro. I haven't taken the 770 on flights… and the M50 is incredibly uncomfortable after an hour or so of use.

I personally prefer IEMs during flights… I have a UE900 and a Shure SE-535 LTD. Just easy to carry around, very comfy (although not as comfortable as the X2 for such extended usage >5-6 hrs).

        • Thanks. That's surprising. How do the IEMs stack up for sound isolation compared to the X2s? Surely there's a large difference?

        • Gearhead, how does the sound compare between the DT770 pro and the X2?

I've got some ATH-AD700 and the DT770 pros. I liked the soundstage and comfort of the AD700s a lot but the bass is lacking. The DT770's have incredible tight and responsive bass, but it is too forefront and a bit overpowering. I also find the DT770s to be uncomfortable for long listening sessions with a bit too much clamping force.

I'm looking for a sound that is somewhere in between AD700s and DT770s, i.e DT770s with the bass slightly dialed off with some more mid-range and a more open sound stage.

        • @Crys: Can't you tune it with an equaliser?

        • @mit:

The IEMs completely seals out all ambient noise. The X2s don't; however having soft big pads, they're comfy af. So doesn't really bother me if I've been wearing em for 4-6 hours straight. Also being open, they kinda allow the ears to 'breathe'; unlike the IEMs. Lastly, if you're playing something (movie or music), you'll barely be able to hear the surroundings.

        • +1

          @Crys:

Re the DT770, it is my gaming "headset". I've got a modmic attached to it and it's an absolute ripper. I absolutely love the bass on the DT770. The highs though, can get a bit too bright. I kinda fix this by using an EQ to scale back the highs; which makes it perfect.

The clamping force is easily remedied. I am extremely sensitive to clamping, so anything with even a moderate clamp is a dealbreaker for me (like the M50). The "arms" of the earcups are made of metal, so a gentle (be very careful) stretch in the other direction can do absolute wonders in fixing the clamping issue. This is what I did and it worked beautifully.

The X2 has a "warmer" signature (IMHO). I must mention that the X2 has a much meatier bass as compared to the DT770 based on my listening observations. The instrument separation is very very good. Vocals are still a bit recessed (based on my XP), but more forward than the DT770. The highs are "toned" down a wee bit, which sounds better to me as I cannot stand sparkly highs.

I would highly recommend trying them out before buying. Wish we had a service here in Aus that would allow us to "try before buying".

  • Very "fun" headphones. Pair these bad boys with the V-moda BoomPro and you've got one of the best gaming headsets on the market.

    • What jack do you plug the BoomPro into? Does the X2 have an input for mic?

      • The BoomPro replaces your standard cable. You can just plug in directly into your pc or anything that supports 3.5mm audio and mic.

    • +1

Have this combo! Very happy with it.

  • Can anyone please let me know if these work for PS4 and PC?

    • They will work for anything that takes a 3.5mm jack. But if you want virtual surround you would have to use an astro mix amp or similar for your ps4.

    • +1

Works for anything except iPhone 7.

  • -2

How is this compare to bose qc35?

    • +4

Completely different use cases. The Bose QC is intended for use in noisy environments and has built in Active Noise Cancellation. The sound quality and comfort are nothing to write home about. The "key" feature is the top tier ANC.

In stark contrast, the Fidelio X2 is a full sized open can. Being open, they have an incredible soundstage and instrument separation. Moreover, the sound quality is very very good. The design of the earcups and the pads make it incredibly comfortable. However, the downsides are, they're not very portable (humongous cans with a 1.5m long cable) and being open, the isolation is sub-par (and to be fair, isolation is not a feature open cans can deliver). Lastly, another drawback of being open, they will leak sound. Which is definitely not something you'd want in a quiet environment. The louder the volume, the more the leakage.

      tl;dr:

Bose QC is meant for noisy environments. They have sub-par sound quality.
X2 is meant for private listening environments. In your mind's eye, picture a comfy couch/recliner with a glass of 10 year old scotch in your hand, eyes closed listening to your favourite music in FLAC.

    • +2

Sound quality when listening at home should leave QC35 for dead.

QC35's strengths is its portable use (in noisy environments). I wouldn't use that thing at home.

  • Ordered one, thanks Op.

  • anybody else has problem with applying the coupon? I can't use it for some reason :(
"This code can't be applied to your order."

    • just applied it to my order 1 minute ago
is your paypal email address same as your ebay addr?

  • I want one now :c

  • Would pull the trigger on this but need to know how much it would piss other office workers

    • In an open office it did a very good job of pissing a few people off. They now live at home.

  • +1

Wasn't in the market for new cans but bought one with all the positive reviews.
Found my hd598 a little too "clean/neutral". Hope these are more "fun"!

    • Exactly the same here

  • Thanks OP. Bought due to all the postive feedback here and reviews.

It has been this price couple of times before.. Not sure why it's getting so many positive votes this time(not saying it's a bad price)

It has been this price couple of times before.. Not sure why it's getting so many positive votes this time(not saying it's a bad price)

And each time it has hit this price point, it has been a good deal. :) It appears that KG Electronics does this price from time to time. This is a pretty darn good discount (almost a $100).

      • Last time it hit this price it got 13 and 25 positive votes..

    • +1

Because it's still a decent deviation from the regular price while also being a highly desirable pair of cans.

  • I don't know to much about these things, but a friend of mine is about to buy the Bowers & Wilkins P5 wired headphones, does anyone know how they compare to these? Thanks

    • +2

      Google

    • P5s are on-ears. These are over-ears. It's a big difference. Unless you want on-ears for a particular reason, the X2s are better in this price range.

  • +2

Just bought one. Not sure whether to love or hate ozbargain.

  • Where can we try these out locally? (PERTH)

    • Headphonic might have a pair if they're still operating. Speak to Marcus

      • Maybe a better idea… is there something sort of similar I can try from jbhifi etc , ie another open headphone

        • No JB don't stock these. Just buy it and if you don't like it sell it with minimal loss.

        • @djevoultion:

I said "is there something similar" :)

        • @ChurchMouth:

It's very hard to make an informed comparison like that TBH. Headphones tend to have very unique characteristics that make it infeasible to do a realistic comparison like that. Especially since general tech stores like JB Hifi have extremely limited stock of audio gear that are considered to be "fast movers" for the mainstream. Typical headphones in store would be some Sennheiser (low/mid range offerings; mostly the momentum series), Audio Technica (low end models), Skull Candy (fashion headphones) and Beats.

There is a StoreDJ in Perth, perhaps they may have some stock (doesn't appear to be in their online store). You could always visit the store and/or ask the chaps over the phone. They also have a demo wall of good headphones that you can try out.

There is also Jaben which have a display area. However, they also don't seem to have any in stock.

        • +3

          @ChurchMouth:

Every headphone JB Hifi sells is shit. This is coming from an audiophile of 10 years. I've sunk more into this hobby than I care to admit.

        • @djevoultion:
Wish I went for these now..

        • @ChurchMouth:

          You snooze you lose.

Addicted to Audio has EOFY sales on. Have a look at the hd600

I got an email saying they have run out of stock, but will offer the newer model X2HR for free, which will released in July.

    • +2

      ah wow, nice!

from what I gather, it's basically just an update with new pads and headband…but either way, that's a nice score to get the newer model!

    • Same. Not sure if I'll take them up on the offer or just get a refund. It was after they sent me a shipping notification yesterday, so I wasn't epecting it.

      • +1

you definitely should take them up on it!

(unless the additional delay is what concerns you, in which case, fair enough)

    • Got the same email, I think I'll take them up on it. Apparently there was a very uncommon issue with the X2s where the balance was a bit off in some models and that's also addressed with the X2HRs. Will be interesting to see if they actually change up the price for the new model seeing as it's only minor changes.

    • Eh? They're giving you a free pair of headphones?

      • Copy and paste my comment below.
I should have said "for free of extra charge":p

Yeah, I dont see any bad thing would come out on this, I have ordered a new case and stand from China so the waiting time would be perfect to receive them all at same time.

        • +1

"at no extra charge" would sound more natural.
