Life (like Planet Earth) on Blu Ray from Amazon UK $32.66 Delivered [Expired]

210

I've been waiting for a deal on this blu ray set for a while now and the price has just dropped by about £10 since I last checked a few days ago.

It now comes to only $32.66 delivered. A few days ago it was around $50 delivered. The same set can currently be preordered via JB for $69.98 so this is less than half the price.

This documentary series is similar to Planet Earth which is amazing on blu ray. It has 4.5 stars out of 5 with 74 reviews. It's also currently fifth on the Amazon Blu Ray chart so a lot of people must be grabbing this with the price drop.

Anyway, thought I'd post this one for the blu ray fans.

  • Don't forget this version is only in 1080i, not full HD, like the US Version

    • How come there is a difference?

      • They regularly release blu-ray titles in different resolutions or with diff sound mix's in diff regions, im not 100% sure why.

        • odd.

On a side note, i've seen both planet earth and life in hd. i prefer planet earth.

the new series (life) feels more fragmented in its "stories". if you're only getting one of these two series, i'd suggest planet earth even though its a few years older. the footages are still stunningly HD.

planet earth blu-ray on amazon is exactly the same price as life.

  • Thanks. Ordered Wonders Of The Solar System, Life, and Planet Earth for $84.95.

But beware the Us version is narrated by Oprah Winfrey and not Attenborough.

    • Hahahahahaha. Attenborough is a naturalist… Whys winfrey dipping in nature docos

      • +3

I am more than happy to lose a few pixels in order to get Attenborough over Oprah.

        • they released the attenborough version in the US too

          • @swimmingtoad: Just checked and on Amazon the US (Attenborough) version is considerably dearer at US$46.99 which works out to be AUD$59.65 delivered. Amazingly enough the Oprah version is even more expensive again. Americans will pay a premium for Oprah it seems.

Heres a review on the US version, I guess they thought the Yanks wouldn't understand someone like Attenborough who speaks the Queens English ; )

This is atrocious. I'm watching "Life" on Discovery channel right now, with Oprah narrating. Some of the reviewers said that the script was re-written for her, and I can believe it. I can't believe Attenborough saying lines like "hunting crab seals is toooo much work!" Oprah narrates this thing as if she were reading a bedtime story to little kids and comes off as snarky and condescending. In the opening segment, she's discussing a fox chasing an ibex kid and it's basically like "heeeere comes the fox! UH OH!!"

    • LOL I actually thought you were kidding when I +'ed your post last night.

  • Anyone know if this UK version would play ok on a Aussie PS3? are they region locked?

    • +1

Australia and the UK are in the same Blu-ray region, you'll be fine.

      • Thanks for that.

  • The Blue Planet 4DVD set (it doesn't come on Blu Ray) is also a great price at the moment. It works out to be an extra $14.50 if you add it as a second item (therefore reduced postage). It's currently a staggering $83.99 at JB :O

  • Just ordered this and Planet Earth (currently the same price), thanks for the post.

  • The price has now jumped to £28.99 from the very fleeting bargain price of £17.93. Bargain over.

  • +1

Planet Earth bluray is still 15pounds ex VAT

  • The price has dropped back down again - making an order now - thanks for that!

    • Aww damn. I missed it twice then.

  • Its 28.99 again now, bargain over?

Planet Earth is still cheap if you don't have it.

  • life isn't that great compared to planet earth. if you're getting this just so that you look better in the eyes of your friends because its a documentary you're just fooling yourself, there's better ones out there!

    • Well i disagree with you, i have seen a couple of episodes and life is great. Are you a person who buys docos to impress your friends? Because that reason for purchasing would have never crossed my mind!

  • If anyone is interested, here is a really great review of Life.

If anyone is still interested, the price of Life Blu Ray has dropped again to £17.93. Currently it will be $32.77 delivered.

  • brillant, christmas shopping for my mum is done!

  • Mine came today. There was some earlier debate about the resolution. Can confirm that it is 1080p* - however it has a asterix stating that "some short elements of the programme are interlaced (ie. the credit rollers)". It also states that "Due to the nature of filming in remote habitats some images are not full HD".

ETA: Watched the first disc last night. This series is a mind trip! The resolution and detail is simply amazing.

  • I still haven't received my order of planet earth….

what do i do now? Just emailed amazon.

does the post office ever forget to leave a "sorry we missed you" card? cos i haven't seen any.

also its my first time ever dealing with a non-arriving parcel.

  • wow, thats nice of them. and quick response too!
