with the "27% off" it still equals the every day price on aliexpress.

    • Yeah but that's Aliexpress.

      • ok?

For something to be the same price on Aliex as an actual e-tailer who's been around for a few years, I'd buy from the e-tailer.

For me to buy from Aliex over a permanent store, there needs to be a major major price difference, and even then I would question whether the stock was genuine.

It's a store, vs individual sellers. You can look at their feedback, but their sales history is not wide enough to know if you can trust them even if they don't have negative feedback.

  • Cheapest or not, still over priced

I paid $180 for the Mipad 1, that was a bargain especially with the lack of cheap quality tablets at the time

Watch TechTablets review on YouTube of this, ROM was buggy as hell and he couldn't recommend. That being said might have been fixed by now, who knows.

Another option is original Mi Max if someone can find one for sale - better processor too.

    Not a good deal.

  • Xiaomi really do love implementing the 'Apple style' in all their devices.

    • +2

Apple don't own a style, they just adopted it first.

      • Xiaomi would be sued if they sold their products in countries that uphold patent law.

        • apple would do that, but in fact many chinese companies use the same UI concept any how, namely huawei can do it in the open because they have exchanged loads of communication related patent with apple (in fact apple had more to gain by doing that).

xiaomi on the other hand relies on quarcomm it has build up a patent list as bargain chip since 2015 but it thinks it still need two years before they can settle with apple in an exchange deal to allow their ui to land in likes of US AUS… that is if by the time world economics dont go belly up lol

apple do own some of the interactive methods patent but those also risk being expired in terms of ability in charging high patent fee in the US / AU region.

Apple will soon abandon 7.9 inch devices therefore this thing would be the next best replacement.

however it should be at the right price at 310 AUD shipped not 30 premium.

@jackau: It's not just the UI that's derrivative. If you look at the design of the devices themselves, they copy from a lot of other people (not just Apple). The miPad looks just like an iPad mini, from its dimensions to the screen resolution. The Mi5 looks a lot like a Galaxy. The Mi Note looks like an S8+ or S7+ with dual curved edge displays, which were implemented only shortly after Samsung did it, surprise surprise.

There's a good reason their products aren't available outside of existing markets (despite the demand) unlike Huawei who have done things legit. Xiaomi went the extra distance to cover themselves by making the global ROM not allow you to select Australia, US, Canada, England or any country that has English as a primary language as your locale.

Apple had grievances against Samsung for copying the idea of rounded corners which was brought up in that $1bn lawsuit against Samsung for copycatting which they won. Xiaomi is a lot more eggregious than Samsung when it comes to copying.
