Anyone here flown Air India before?
Is it comparible to hainan/china southern?

It's way better. I would compare them with THAI Airways. Like their dreamliner flights

Then this seems like an amazing deal.
        I wonder why 0p's reaction was :|
        Thanks.

Bloody TG's 788s are way smaller than the 773 that used to service the route & much more cramped. Even as a 195cm & well built bloke I fitted comfortably in their seats but the new ones suck. That being said they are quieter & faster, and the lighting / air pressure differences are noticeable.

        • Second that. I wonder how Cathay Pacific has been ranked in top 3. IMHO I would rate thai airways above Cathay Pacific, but could be just my experience.

        • @creeps_bay:

Apparently they've gotten better, but I wouldn't know, the last time I flew CX was on a 744 with the projector screens (last millennium), though the A350 is now servicing Brisbane and I am tempted to try it.

Vindaloo served? Got 'the trots' all the way to Bombay?

        • @hardya: hah! The vindaloo was soooo good I had seconds!! I'd been in India for a few months so by the time I got to the plane I had guts of steel.

When did you travel. They never had Singapore Perth flight.

        • @nrg2010: Calm down. So they called you out. With a reaction like that I'd wonder what else you forgot on your wonderful trip 😄

It would be better to attack their comment below in a separate post, that way you dont look like a dick attacking because they corrected your memory

      • I love a good curry. Did they serve curry on the plane?

        • +3

Yeah vegetarian or non vegetarian, plus some western choices.

These new Air India Dreamliner planes as surprisingly good, nice leg space with massage rollers on footrest. I flew Melbourne to New Delhi. Unfortunately the service is not great, Flight supposed to leave Mel at 10:30 AM and after delay due to late coming passengers left after 11 AM and they served breakfast (tasty chicken sausage and omelette) quite late after 12 PM. In flight service is not good (I am comparing with Singapore airlines), you don't see the air hostesses/stewards once they serve lunch, with SIA they constantly roam around offering water/juice etc. Alcohol choice is terrible and the cold snack before landing at New Delhi is pretty bad as well.
A few toilets ran out of water as well.

  • Air India? Not even if it was free.

Air India is also called Flying coffin in the absence of proper maintenance and staff training. I let someone use my CC for Sydney- Delhi flight. Price was displayed in AUD but they charged $25 currency conversion. Your seat may be given to someone else even if it is confirmed.

I have had really good experience with them, Air India are any day better than the Chinese carriers. Great price!

For the price, Melb/Syd to Europe is a no brainer

I flew AI Mel-Fra in 2015 for $1200, it was great.

Sure, the service is not comparable to the likes of Singapore or Emirates, but the plane is very comfortable.
