Mama's, making pho, doesn't take long, for the pho to get around.

    • +2

I feel like Pho tonight, like Pho tonight!

      • +2

I like Mama Hoang's pho, Mama Hoang's pho for me,

I like it for dinner, I like it for tea,

A little pho each day is a good recipe.

        • The pho's of Australia have ma-a-ade their choice. SNAPPY PHO!. Snappy pho-o-o.

Rolld has the most expensive Pho Ive ever seen.

    • +20

The Pho sold here is also terrible.

    • +8

Yes, pretty hard to find a authentic pho restaurant that would charge more, also generally you get a way bigger bowl at a pho restaurant vs Rolld.

However, I think Rolld pho taste pretty descent.

      • +12

Rolld Pho tastes like its downhill?

    • How can free be expensive?!

  • +8

This franchise just needs to roll over and … disappear already

    • +2

Nothing better on a cold day!

    • They sell it on nearly every corner in Melbourne these days it may as well be free

  • +5

What the hell is a 'single serve Cup of Phở'? A cup? Not even a bowl?

    • +1

Nope, they have it in cups :)

      • +1

What is the point….. Yes I'm sure this sounds entitled of me but if they want people to try their product, a nibble is not going to cut it.

        • Its not a small cup, but yea, free is free right!

      • -6

Less to spit out. The fact it comes in a cup seems like the only good thing about this deal.

      • .'Nope, they have it in cups :)' … that seems like a pho par… ;P

  • +8

Roll'd at Sydney Domestic Airport has the most ripoff rice rolls; about 90% rice vermicelli. I would have preferred a Subway to go, but that shop is at International.

    • Agree. I had it the other day at the airport. Stay away!

  • +1

    Great bargain, considering it's free.

    But terrible pho.

  • +2

it's free food, what more do you want

    • +6

      Free edible food.

  • LOL at the pic, doesn't look appetite at all.

    • +4

      ^appetising

That's fine, none for you.. more for others

    • +6

      It does look nourish though.

  • Is there a Mothers Day Freebies thread like there is one for the Birthdays?

  • +3

Will most likely be a cup of broth stuffed with heaps of bean sprouts and few strands of noodles. It's free, only time worth eating there.

  • They can't just assume your gender ;)

    • +1

      Good point!

Maybe 20 years ago they could, but the world has gone seriously downhill in this respect since then. If they even dare to point out that I in fact appear to be a 6-foot bearded male rather than a 'mother', I will feign outrage, and shout a lengthy acronym at them. The acronym starts with LGBT, but it seems to get added to every couple of months these days, and is now longer than the alphabet… I will brush up on it before I 'go for pho', so I know what to shout at them if they dare to question my proclaimed gender identity.

  • +1

    Are you pho real?!

  • +6

Worst phur(yes, I've been) I have ever had.

  • +1

Expensive - even their "Bowl" is tiny.

    • Agree. Although the size of the bowl is not tiny, you get very little noodle in the bowl. Free is good but way overpriced normally.

  • +2

terrible food, so little portion, not sure why they are still in business.

  • -5

    Inb4 the 'dog eater' comments……

  • +1

I only go to Roll'd for the rice paper rolls, their pho and bahmi rolls are absolutely terrible.

    • +2

For a moment there, it sounded like you go to Roll'd for just about everything. Might want to try a period instead of a comma there.

      • +1

I like to have a little surprise at the end of my sentences to twist the entire meaning.

      • You might want to try "full-stop", instead of "period", while you're on the subject of grammar.

    • serious?! At about $4 for ONE rice paper roll??

      • Yeah, our local Roll'd used to have this deal where you could get 3 rolls + an ice tea for $10.90 but for some reason dropped it. I hardly go anymore now.

  • +2

Does anyone know that Vietnamese Phở ís voted the world's 28th most delicious dish ?

  • +1

Their pho is pretty bland and waaay overpriced

  • +2

"Pho your mum" should be their campaign slogan.

    • puns are only amusing to native English speakers

      but i like it :thumb:

  • Bring your mum here. Get her free pho, tell her she is worth it. Lol

    • pho real

  • +2

    Looks like a generic one

    • Ermmm… not sure about others, but 'Made with mama Hoang's secret ingredient' gets me little offside, and not just because 'mama' should be capitalised when it is used in such a context.

Call me old-fashioned, but I generally prefer food that does not contain any 'secret ingredients'. I suppose it's probably just a bit of harmless MSG, but still. What if it was toe-jam, or sommat even more left-field?!? Maybe 'Mama Hoang' is a bit weird like that…

      I think I'll steer clear…

      • Pro-Tip: 99% of Vietnamese restaurants never only use "a bit of harmless MSG". If there was an ingredient list, it would be one of the first items to appear.

  • +1

Looks like dirty dishwater with chunks of potentially usefully ingredients floating around inside. Would feel like shit if I fed this to my mum.

    • +1

Not a pet owner, but if I had one I probably wouldn't give them something that looked this horrific..

      • My dog won't even touch ordinary chicken soup as is

  • +4

By far and away the worst 'pho' (if you can even call it that) I've ever eaten in my life. Don't waste your time. Small serving too.

  • Can someone explain their business strategy?

    • +3

Their strategy is to target the ignorant people in the western market. Make it assessible to those that havent travelled and /or wont walk into the genuine restautants due to phobias of them being dirty etc etc. So these people wont even know what the real deal tastes like. Recipes would also probably have been westernised. These places are my real pet hate just like those fusion vietnamese places which keep springing up, which target the trendy and hipster markets. In a way those places are even worse serving indian, thai and chinese all under the vietnamese banner in the name of fusion. Even more astounding is the people eating there think everything on the menu is actually Vietnamese and think that $20 for a bowl of pho is cheap!

      • Miss Chu in Sydney used to make me irrationally angry because of this and I'm not even Vietnamese. And then she would also come out and say (profanity) things. I regret the one time I ate their Pho (even though I didn't really choose to go there), it was disgusting. And then she went bust which was great and now she's coming back with a new restaurant I think. Ugh.

        • wtf we can say 'shit' but not a$$ hole???

  • How can they make pho so horrendously…

  • So is this for one cup or two? It's very confusing. Are you supposed to get it for your mum? Do you get a free one too?

    • +1

It says '… so you can spoil Mum (or yourself).'

So that clearly means one free cup only, not two, due to the word 'OR'. Otherwise they would have used the word 'AND'. Nothing confusing about it, except the woeful quality of their pho, but I think collectively, we as a community are beginning to get to the bottom of the potential reasons for that…

      • Ok. Lol!!

    • -1

Your mum and her friend could share one cup. If you get my drift. ;)

  • +1

For those wondering why there are so many negative comments on the food taste and quality, the following quote says it all:

"Within six months, and with no food service experience between them, they transformed it into a Vietnamese eatery and opened roll’d in May 2012."

    http://www.afr.com/leadership/entrepreneur/how-rolld-is-harn…

This screams the age old 2nd/3rd generation immigrant mindset of "Just finished uni but really cannot be bothered going into the corporate world against people with better work ethic and marks ….hey let's just sell (my countries) food to Aussies and profit!!!".

If they don't fix their product Roll'd will go the way of MissChu, another chain that chased the hipster dollar and lost.

  • Okay, if Roll'd is so terrible, where in Canberra should I be going for bánh mì and phở instead? (I've never actually tried their phở)

    • My go-to joints for pho are LL Bakery & Cafe and Iron Knob St Bakery & Delicatessen, both of which are in Fyshwick.

  • +1

Come to Cabramatta for some authentic Pho

  • +1

Rolld has the worst pho i've every experienced, and grossly overpriced

they couldnt give it away for free

  • Not valid at the following Rolld locations; VIC: CBW, Collins Place, 357 Collins St, 50 Lonsdale St, QV, RMIT, Southern Cross Lane, St Kilda Road.

NSW: Australia Square, Chifley Plaza, Metcentre, O’Connell St, Rowe Lane.

QLD: 144 Edward, Post Office Square, 410 Queen St. WA: Cloisters, Enex.

Ok so I'm at Melb, and basically it's not valid at any of the city stores?! That or they forgot to include Melb Central in the list…

    • I was at Sydney International Airport yesterday, and the lady refused to honour the coupon, in spite of that location being listed as one of the places that were participating in the Promotion.

She just said that the "head office didn't tell them about this promotion".

It was suspicious to me, because she didn't even look at the coupon in my hand, and gave me the reason, without even looking at my eye (it was an unconvincing look)

  • Should also note - Voucher must be printed out in order to redeem. Who does that? Other than baskin robbins?

    • I had it printed out, too.
But it made no difference, to someone who was unwilling to honour the promotion.

  • +1

Thanks OP, this was awesome! Was impressed by the large serving, staff were very friendly and even got a pager while I waited. I had the chicken pho with fresh chilli, must have had a lot of customers because they ran out of lids.

    • +1

Thanks for the feedback! I missed out on it but glad to see someone made the most of it.
