This product cannot be shipped to Australia.

    • +2

      It ships in checkout.

      • +2

Anyone know why that's the case with Amazon? On some items that state it cannot be shipped to Australia, going through to checkout will actually display international shipping options. I've always been wary of order cancellation if I went through with it so never bothered.

    • +4

Go through to checkout. Only silver doesn't actually ship (shame as it's cheaper)

That price includes sales tax, it's excluded at checkout

  • -5

Kind of stupid and confusing for people to mention the tax when it's not yet in power until July.

Oh yeah, F you our beloved government, every new law that's been introduced and decided over night is for worse while people just go beeeh beeeh! 🐑

  • is import duty payable on this as rrp over $1k?

    • +1

No, It's under 1k, RRP is irrelevant.

    • +1

The price is $883, not our RRP.

    • +3

Exactly what I am thinking.. too risky if you ask me. I once got a phonemail from customs years ago when I purchased a couple of Fishfinders, I paid considerably less than 1k. But because the contents of box were valued at more than 1k in Australia, I was old there would be stamp duty payable. I told them to send the goods back to seller.

      • -8

I was old there would be stamp duty payable

Too bad you are old. New laws change how importing works.

  • +2

Being an EU plug, it should work here with an inbound adapter. Correct me if I am wrong.

    • +10

Or you can just plug the usb cable into one of the many usb chargers you already own? It may not charge quite as fast.

      • +1

I bought a low cost fast charger, works well.

  • -1

Found it can not be shipped to Australia according to red words.

Just a heads up that Samsung region lock their phones. To unlock this phone will require making a 5 minute call with an eu sim.

Just a heads up that Samsung region lock their phones. To unlock this phone will require making a 5 minute call with an eu sim.

WTF is wrong with Samsung? Their name is already tarnished because of their ongoing issues with products from washing machines to phones catching fire and they want to further piss people off with pointless restrictions.

      • +5

It's not pointless - they want you to pay the Australian price, not the EU price.

        • It's not pointless - they want you to pay the Australian price, not the EU price.

It is pointless from a consumer point of view as it increases the prices and limits options whilst screwing people around who buy when traveling.

The global economy bullshit only applies to manufacturers who make their products in third world countries, when they sell them they screw each country for every dollar they can.

    • Is it sufficient to get an EU SIM and make 5 minutes of calls whilst roaming in Australia, or do you have to actually use the SIM within the EU to lift the restriction?

      • This is also something I'd like to know. It sounds to me like it should work.

“SOME CURRENT SAMSUNG PRODUCTS ARE NOW PROVIDED WITH A LOCAL SIM CARD LOCK. THIS MEANS THAT DEVICES PURCHASED IN THE EUROPEAN UNION, WITH SIM CARDS OF MOBILE OPERATORS FROM GERMANY AND FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA (THE “EUROPEAN REGION”) WORK AS USUAL.

USERS OF THESE SAMSUNG DEVICES CAN CONTINUE TO USE THESE TOGETHER WITH THEIR SIM CARD OF A MOBILE OPERATOR FROM THE EUROPEAN REGION VIA ROAMING SERVICE TO APPROPRIATE ROAMING CHARGES TO THEIR WIRELESS SERVICE PROVIDER AROUND THE WORLD. IF PURCHASED IN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND NOT YET BEEN PUT INTO USE TO BE ACTIVATED FOR THE FIRST TIME ABROAD, USERS CAN UNLOCK THEIR DEVICE FOR THE REGION FREE FROM LOCAL SAMSUNG SERVICE PARTNERS.”

        From this site: https://androidcommunity.com/samsung-regional-sim-card-locks…

    • u can just pay an extra 37.46 for the aus version

      • where from?

  • Better wait till June-July, prices definitely gonna fall for local stock.

And personally i didn't like the new cylinder look of S8+, it was like photoshop error kind of thing where we drag picture at one end and hence the vertial image.

    Personal choice.

    Cheers.

Will PayPal work? Asking because i was recently bitten by pitney bowes when i purchased a watch from US on eBay 😔

    • No, Paypal charges a fee for conversion.

    • Not at Amazon.

    • I'd be interested to know how were you bitten by Pitney Bowes?

I recently also had issues with them.

      • +1

Bought a watch from US seller on eBay, when checking out i missed to see text where it says agree to global shipping program. Which is the real catch. Looks like eBay is doing it for so purchases done from US sellers 😔. Tried explaining to PayPal but no use.

        • Bought a watch from US seller on eBay, when checking out i missed to see text where it says agree to global shipping program. Which is the real catch. Looks like eBay is doing it for so purchases done from US sellers 😔. >Tried explaining to PayPal but no use.

The listing clearly states global shipping program with the postage cost next to it. And no eBay are not doing it for all US sellers, sellers can choose to participate and when they sell they freepost it to the GSP who posts it to Australia. This is NO different to the seller posting it to you direct except you can save money, for some reason certain people cannot read and think they are paying extra for the GSP.

So why did you try to explain this to PayPal and why would they care how your purchase is posted?

        • @Maverick-au: The watch i bought from ebay did charge me the postage. and then on top of it i was charged by the global shipping, when contacted paypal, was told that because i agreed to terms i was charged.
And No there was no charge mentioned earlier. there are few people who raised this with (paypal)[https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Archive/I-have-been-charged-18-from-pitney-Bowes-inc/td-p/628337?profile.language=en-gb]

        • @hopper:

The watch(ebay.com.au) i bought from ebay did charge me the postage. and then on top of it i was charged by the global shipping, when contacted paypal, was told that because i agreed to terms i was charged.

          It's pretty simple.

US $179.99 (AU $240.68) Cost of item
US $27.65 (AU $36.97) Shipping via GSP

PayPal bill you both of the charges combined as they always do. But when you check your account you will see both charges separately listed as the GSP partner is sent direct to PB.

You haven't been charged additional charges, you have been billed for exactly what you paid for and agreed to.

But thanks you reminded me that I wanted to replace my Huawei with the LG Urbane 2.

        • @Maverick-au: GSP shipping prices are always very expensive compared to when they ship directly.

I tend to avoid anyone using GSP.

        • @lostn:

GSP shipping prices are always very expensive compared to when they ship directly.

Not always and in this case they're reasonable plus he agreed to them and now thinks they have charged him an additional charge which they did not. I REPEAT there is no additional charges for using GSP, you pay the amount shown on the ebay item page under postage the same as you would for any other item.

I tend to avoid anyone using GSP.

I use logic and look at the cost of the item and the cost of shipping to determine if I will buy from someone along with other factors but to rule out a purchase because they use GSP is totally devoid of any logic. The GSP means that people who would not normally send overseas because of the paperwork etc involved will now sell their products and you have a larger range of products to choose from.

        • @Maverick-au:

I REPEAT there is no additional charges for using GSP

I didn't say there was any additional charge for using GSP. I'm saying GSP's base charge is already above market value. I've had to pay $40 to ship items that Amazon would have shipped for $5.

The GSP means that people who would not normally send overseas because of the paperwork etc involved will now sell their products and you have a larger range of products to choose from.

There's no harm in offering the service, if the alternative is that they won't ship it at all. I'm merely exercising my right not to patronize it. If there's no other seller who will sell the item aside from the GSP-based seller, then you don't have much of a choice. I have yet to purchase an item where this was my only option though. I don't buy things that are so exclusive that only a US seller on ebay (and nowhere else) is offering it for sale. But if it was the only option, I just won't buy it. It will come up somewhere else soon enough.

It's no sweat off my back if I miss out.

When you're flooded with options, and you remove everyone using GSP, it makes it easier to decide who to buy from.

        • @Maverick-au: I was charged 212.71 USD ($281.99 AUD) and then on top i was charged $28.86 (38.28 AUD). So i am sure i was charged extra. Screenshot

are you afraid of region lock?

This is the official direct & response from the Samsung Support Team for devices come with a regional lock. Advice was given as of 11 December 2015.

Please be advised that in the interest of security, all of Samsung devices come with a regional lock when new. To unlock the device for use worldwide, please insert a SIM card native to the region the device is locked to, and make a minimum of five cumulative minutes of call time on the handset before it travels.

Failing that, best contact Samsung Support Customer Services directly for further assistance. Hope this helps!

      • +2

So basically you have to make 5 minutes of calls in the EU region. I take it you would either have to be in the EU or have it shipped to family or friends in the EU to make it happen. Failing this you would have to ship it to an address in the EU and fly in and make the 5 minutes of calls personally. Sounds complicated.

  • Does not take PayPal ( no option for Paypal, just Cards)
Using the cheapest shipping method, 15 days, Their foreign currency calculate it as otale pagamento: AUD 917.04
that's after tax removed for overseas purchase from Australia
So if using my own conversion with card fees and card conversion rate perhaps $905.00

  • +4

How are people here going to get someone to make a phone call with the phone in Italy?
It's a good price, and very early to see such a sale, but if it's unusable then it's a bit pointless.

    • +5

Will it work if we take phone to leichhardt(mini italia).

  • +5

    883$

i think i would still pay 100$ more for all the goodness…..and sake of worryness.

    • +6

yup, you would have to be dumb to buy this.

      • not agreeing on that, but this is very subjective tho…

maybe 700$ish. i might pull the triger

  • It is true all Samsung phones are region lock my purchase of the A7 (2017) from HK was opened and started I guess to over ride the region.

  • Samsung Australia refuses to fix grey phones. Also, I doubt you'll find any Australian repairer who can fix the screen in the first few months and even then it will cost you more than half the price of this phone (have a look at the expensive s7 edge 3rd-party screen replacement costs).

    • Most companies even Apple sometimes refuses to fix grey phones. Because sometimes even the screen has something slightly different e.g. antennas and what not which isn't compatible.

Samsung used to fix grey phones 2yrs ago if i recall correctly. But it stopped one day because there was a model which had a prominent difference so when they switched the screen, cellular or wifi stopped working completely. And since they have their guarentee that if it isn't fixed they will replace the phone, they had to replace a grey phone with domestic phone.

Quite a few people started taking advantage of this e.g. a cheap way to get a domestic phone….

So they turned around and put in the policy of no Grey phones.

      • So they turned around and put in the policy of no Grey phones.

They have the policy to make more money, it has nothing to do with screens not being compatible. They want to limit your choice and force you to pay the Australian tax instead of saving up to 50% by buying from overseas.

        • Lol, which business in the world does not have policies to make money?!?!?!? if you were running a business you wouldn't sell everything at cost price…

There is no free lunch in this world…..

        • @lplau:

Lol, which business in the world does not have policies to make money?!?!?!? if you were running a business you wouldn't sell everything at cost price…

There's a difference between screwing consumers with shoddy merchandise that is designed to fail and building quality products designed to last. I never said anything about not making money but when you build products that are designed to fail and your refuse to fix that product because it was purchased in another country this is unethical at best.

The practice of selling a product into Australia that is made in a third world country for 5-10% of it's selling price isn't in anyway good for anyone. Look at Hills who used to make a quality product locally and sell for a reasonable price and it would last for thirty or more years with spares cheaply available. Now they offshored to China, the products last a few years, parts are not available and we pay the same as we did for the locally built product!

Samsung like many other companies want to screw us as much as they can. Does the same Samsung product that is sold in Australia cost them $400 more then European models? When your business model is based on screwing consumers by selling products designed to fail so the consumer has to constantly upgrade so you can satisfy your shareholders something is fundamentally wrong. At the same time much is said about reducing our impact on the environment by the government. The two are at odds with each other.

      • Apple will fix a grey phone but only within a 12 month period where as locally sold phones have a 2 year warranty.

  • +32

I'm flying to Paris in 2 weeks, send me your phone and I will make a 5 minute phone call to unlock it for you.

No warranty and region locked? Honestly, just pay the $300 extra and buy local. And if you can't afford that, then this phone isn't really for you.
